  • Jayden Daniels QB | WAS

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Knee restricting lateral movement

Daniels (knee), who is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders, is comfortable throwing and running forward, but his struggles with moving laterally was the main factor in Washington's decision to rule him out for Week 3, Jay Glazer reported on "Fox NFL Sunday."

While the Commanders haven't provided official word on the nature of Daniels' injury, Glazer classified the knee issue as a ligament sprain, though Dianna Russini of The Athletic relayed earlier Sunday that a possible MCL sprain has been ruled out. Daniels' ability to move laterally without discomfort will be the critical factor to watch next week in practice. The Commanders will proceed with Marcus Mariota as their starting quarterback in Week 3.

  • Tanner McKee QB | PHI

Eagles' Tanner McKee: Working as emergency QB in Week 3

McKee (thumb) is inactive but is serving as the Eagles' emergency third quarterback Sunday against the Rams, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

McKee continues to work his way back from surgery on a fractured right thumb and is serving as Philly's emergency third QB for the second straight week. Until he's advanced enough in his recovery, Sam Howell will likely continue to get the gameday nod as the backup quarterback behind Jalen Hurts.

  • Riley Leonard QB | IND

Colts' Riley Leonard: Serving as emergency QB again

Leonard (coach's decision) is inactive as the Colts' emergency third quarterback Week 3 versus Tennessee.

This will be the third straight week to begin that campaign that Leonard serves as Indianapolis' emergency third QB. He's ineligible to enter Sunday's matchup unless both Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson are forced out due to injury, illness or ejection.

  • Vikings' Desmond Ridder: Emergency QB for Week 3

Ridder (coach's decision) is inactive but will serve as the Vikings' emergency third quarterback against the Bengals on Sunday.

Ridder wasn't able to make the Bengals' 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but he caught on with the Vikings this past Tuesday to provide depth at quarterback due to J.J. McCarthy (ankle) being sidelined. As the emergency third quarterback, Ridder is prohibited from playing Sunday unless Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer were both to leave the game due to injury, illness or ejection.

  • Tommy DeVito QB | NE

Patriots' Tommy DeVito: Serving as emergency QB

DeVito (coach's decision) is inactive but will serve as New England's emergency third quarterback against Pittsburgh on Sunday.

DeVito will be the Patriots' emergency quarterback for a third-straight week. He won't be allowed to see the field unless Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs are both removed from Sunday's game due to injury, illness or ejection.

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: In line to sit Sunday

Purdy (left shoulder/toe) isn't in line to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Purdy sat out the 49ers' Week 2 win at New Orleans due to the combination of a turf toe variant and an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder. While the quarterback was able to log three limited practices this week, coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Purdy was "highly unlikely" to play in Week 3, according to Schefter. The 49ers won't post their inactives until about 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, but Purdy's name is expected to be included when they do. Mac Jones will earn another spot start in Purdy's place while Adrian Martinez handles backup duties.

  • Joe Burrow QB | CIN

Bengals' Joe Burrow: Could return later this season

Burrow, who underwent surgery Friday to address a Grade 3 turf toe injury, is facing a three-month absence, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

While coach Zac Taylor declined to provide a timeline for Burrow's recovery, a previous report by Ben Baby of ESPN aligns with Rapoport's estimate that the QB will miss a minimum of three months. With that timetable in mind, Burrow could potentially return later this season, but in the meantime Jake Browning will serve as the Bengals' No. 1 signal-caller.

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Could return to lineup in Week 4

The 49ers are optimistic that Purdy (toe/shoulder) -- who is listed as questionable but not expected to play Sunday against the Cardinals -- could be ready to start the team's Week 4 game versus the Jaguars, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Though Purdy is trending toward missing a second straight game this Sunday while he recovers from turf toe as well as an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder, he made notable progress this week, practicing in a limited fashion from Wednesday through Friday. With the 49ers elevating Adrian Martinez from the practice squad Saturday, Purdy could be inactive Sunday, affording Mac Jones another start while Martinez serves as the top backup. Up to this point, Purdy has healed more quickly from his injuries than the 49ers initially anticipated, so if he's able to increase his practice activity during the upcoming week, he could be cleared to take back the starting role from Jones.

  • 49ers' Adrian Martinez: Elevated again

The 49ers elevated Martinez from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.

Martinez served as the backup quarterback to Mac Jones in Week 2. His status is a bit more in question for Week 3 , as Brock Purdy (toe) is officially listed as questionable despite not being expected to start.

  • Brady Cook QB | NYJ

Jets' Brady Cook: Set to back up Taylor

The Jets elevated Cook from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Eric Allen of the team's official site reports.

Cook has been with the Jets since signing with the team as an undrafted free agent. He's been on the practice squad to begin the season, but will get a chance to back up Tyrod Taylor in Week 3 against the Buccaneers, as Justin Fields (concussion) is sidelined.
