Easton Stick QB | ATL
Falcons' Easton Stick: Sharp in preseason start
Stick completed 15 of 18 pass attempts for 149 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason tilt against the Lions.
Stick got the start for Atlanta with both Michael Penix and Kirk Cousins sitting out the exhibition. The 29-year-old Stick was nearly perfect from the pocket in the first half before giving way to Emory Jones after halftime. The pair of backups will continue battling for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart this preseason when the Falcons take on the Titans next Friday.

Hendon Hooker QB | NYJ
Lions' Hendon Hooker: Fumbles twice in preseason start
Hooker completed seven of 10 pass attempts for 38 yards while gaining 27 yards and losing two fumbles on three rushing attempts in Friday's preseason game against the Falcons.
Hooker got the nod under center for the Lions after struggling mightily against the Chargers in the Hall of Fame Game on July 31. The 2023 third-round pick didn't fare much better against Atlanta, coughing up the football on Detroit's opening drives in the first and second quarters. Fellow backup Kyle Allen (120 yards and two touchdowns) took over in the second half and outperformed Hooker yet again, giving the veteran signal-caller an early lead in the competition to be starter Jared Goff's primary backup in 2025.

Tyler Shough QB | NO
Saints' Tyler Shough: Will be backup in preseason opener
Shough will serve as the Saints' backup quarterback for Sunday's preseason opener against the Chargers, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Shough has gotten some reps with the first-team offense during training camp, but Spencer Rattler will be New Orleans' QB1 for the first exhibition game while Jake Haener operates as the third-string passer. Shough and Rattler are battling to be the Week 1 starter, and the former should have an opportunity to be the starter in at least one of the Saints' three preseason games.

Spencer Rattler QB | NO
Saints' Spencer Rattler: Starting in preseason opener
Rattler will be the Saints' starting quarterback for Sunday's preseason opener against the Chargers.
Rattler saw more reps with the first-team offense during this past week's training camp practices, and the 2024 fifth-rounder will get the first crack at winning the QB1 job against Tyler Shough. Rattler started in six of seven games during his rookie campaign, including the final four contests of the regular season. Over those last four games, he completed 71 of 129 pass attempts for 746 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions while turning nine carries into 85 yards.

Drake Maye QB | NE
Patriots' Drake Maye: On track to see snaps Friday
Based on warmups, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site notes that Maye worked with the team's top offense.
Also out there with the second-year QB in that context were RB Rhamondre Stevenson, WRs DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte and Mack Hollins, along with TE Hunter Henry. Meanwhile WR Stefon Diggs wasn't spotted in warmups, which is not surprising given that he's bouncing back from an ACL tear he suffered Week 8 of last season. Coach Mike Vrabel previously indicated that "most everybody that's healthy should expect to play in the game," and Maye indeed appears to be on track to log snaps versus Washington.

Sam Hartman QB | WAS
Commanders' Sam Hartman: Starting in preseason opener
Hartman will be the Commanders' starting quarterback for Friday's preseason game against the Patriots, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
With Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota (lower leg) not suiting up, Hartman will command the offense to begin Friday's game while Josh Johnson serves as the backup. Hartman spent most of the 2024 season on the Commanders' practice squad and will get the first crack over Johnson to audition for the QB3 job.
-
Jayden Daniels QB | WAS
Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Won't play Friday
Daniels won't play in Friday's preseason opener against the Patriots, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
The same applies to veteran signal-caller Marcus Mariota (lower leg), which leaves Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman to handle the team's QB reps Friday. Daniels' next chance to see game action will arrive Aug. 18 against the Bengals.

Drake Maye QB | NE
Patriots' Drake Maye: Expected to see snaps Friday
The expectation is that Maye will see some action in Friday's preseason opener against the Commanders, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Though Maye's playing status for Friday's contest hasn't been confirmed by the team, earlier this week coach Mike Vrabel did note that "most everybody that's healthy should expect to play in the game. How long they'll play, I don't know, but we have to prepare to play in football games and prepare to win football games." Also in the mix to see QB snaps for the Patriots versus Washington are Joshua Dobbs and Ben Wooldridge.

Tanner Mordecai QB | SF
49ers' Tanner Mordecai: Back in Bay Area
The 49ers signed Mordecai to a contract Friday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Mordecai will take the spot on the 49ers' training camp roster vacated by Equanimeous St. Brown (foot), who was placed on injured reserve. Mordecai is a longshot to make the 49ers' 53-man roster at the end of training camp. However, with Kurtis Rourke (knee) sidelined, Mordecai would have the opportunity to audition for a spot on the practice squad if he sees playing time as the third-string quarterback behind Mac Jones and Carter Bradley on Saturday against the Broncos if Brock Purdy doesn't play.

Brock Purdy QB | SF
49ers' Brock Purdy: Candidate to sit out Saturday game
Purdy is a candidate to sit out Saturday's preseason opener against the Broncos, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Per Inman, look for most of the 49ers' usual starters to sit out the contest, with coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledging that the team "won't play a ton of them. Doesn't mean we will rest all 22. But don't expect to see a lot out there" Saturday. With that in mind, it's worth noting that Purdy didn't play in San Francisco's preseason opener the past two years, but he did make cameos in the team's following exhibition tilts.
