Sam Darnold QB | SEA
Vikings' Sam Darnold: Plays one series in Vikings debut
Darnold started at quarterback but played just one series on offense in Saturday's preseason win over Las Vegas. He was 4-of-8 passing for 59 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
Darnold essentially led the Vikings on a scoring drive, but his pass to Jalen Nailor on fourth-and-goal fell incomplete. Darnold playing only one series is likely a sign he's the favorite to begin the season as the starting quarterback. Rookie J.J. McCarthy played most of the game after Darnold left and had a strong performance with two touchdown passes, albeit largely against the second- and third-string defense.

Trevor Lawrence QB | JAC
Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Sharp on two possessions Saturday
Lawrence completed three of four passes for 42 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in the Jaguars' 26-13 preseason win over the Chiefs on Saturday night.
Lawrence was in on the Jaguars' first two possessions and looked sharp during his time on the field, leading the Jaguars to an opening-drive touchdown that came via a nine-yard scoring pass to Travis Etienne. Lawrence's third and final completion of the night notably came to offseason addition Gabe Davis for 20 yards to open the second drive of the game, and the overall play of the first-team members of Jacksonville's offense was encouraging. Lawrence could be in for even more playing time in the Jags' second preseason game next Saturday night at home against the Buccaneers.

J.J. McCarthy QB | MIN
Vikings' J.J. McCarthy: Two TD passes in pro debut
McCarthy was 11-for-17 passing for 188 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's preseason win over Las Vegas.
McCarthy threw an interception on a rushed throw under pressure on his first drive in his pro debut, but he settled down thereafter and was sharp with a 116.8 passer rating. Most of his production came in the second half against the second- and third-string defense, but he threw nice deep balls on touchdown passes of 45 and 33 yards. Sam Darnold played just the first series on offense as he remains the favorite to start Week 1. However, McCarthy showed he could be a factor earlier rather than later this season.

Easton Stick QB | ATL
Chargers' Easton Stick: Struggles mightily Saturday
Stick completed five of his 13 pass attempts for 31 yards and an interception in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks. He also carried the ball once for 12 yards.
The Jim Harbaugh Era got off to a dreadful start in the exhibition game, as the Chargers had just one drive that went longer than five plays in the first half. Stick, who started Saturday's game due to Justin Herbert (foot) being sidelined, struggled mightily, often failing to hit wide receivers in stride or getting pressured off his plant spot immediately. A fifth-round draft pick back in 2019, Stick is expected to act as the team's backup QB provided he's able to hold off second-year quarterback Max Duggan in a training camp battle for the position.

Patrick Mahomes QB | KC
Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Plays one possession Saturday
Mahomes completed three of four passes for 27 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Chiefs' 26-13 preseason loss to the Jaguars on Saturday night.
Mahomes played on the Chiefs' opening possession, which lasted seven plays and culminated in a field goal. The multi-time MVP had a pair of completions totaling 20 yards to Marquise Brown (shoulder) and Isiah Pacheco on the first two plays and connected with Travis Kelce for seven yards on his third and final completion. Mahomes and his starting offense appear to already be in solid form, and it remains to be seen if they'll log at least a quarter in next Saturday afternoon's home exhibition against the Lions.

Sam Howell QB | DAL
Seahawks' Sam Howell: Plenty of time in preseason opener
Howell completed 16 of 27 passes for 130 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and rushed four times for 17 yards in the Seahawks' 16-3 preseason win over the Chargers on Saturday night.
Howell drew the start due to Geno Smith being a healthy scratch, and the offseason arrival played until just the halfway point of the third quarter. The 2022 fifth-round pick of the Commanders led two first-half touchdown drives and also spearheaded a 14-play, 84-yard march on his last possession that ended on downs at the Chargers' two-yard line. It was a relatively solid in-game Seahawks debut for Howell, who seems to have a clear advantage over journeyman PJ Walker for the No. 2 quarterback job heading into Seattle's second preseason game next Saturday night at Tennessee.

Josh Allen QB | BUF
Bills' Josh Allen: Plays first quarter vs. Bears
Allen completed two of three passes for 22 yards and rushed once for seven yards in Saturday's 33-6 preseason loss to the Bears.
Allen played the first quarter, which consisted of one full drive and part of another possession for Buffalo's offense. His completions went to Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel, perhaps foreshadowing which wide receivers Allen will be relying on most following the offseason departure of Stefon Diggs. Rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman also mixed in with the first-team offense. Allen will look to keep building chemistry with Buffalo's new-look wide receiver room in next Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers.

Caleb Williams QB | CHI
Bears' Caleb Williams: Leads two long drives in NFL debut
Williams completed four of seven passes for 95 yards and added a 13-yard run in Saturday's 33-6 preseason win over the Bills.
Williams led a pair of long drives in his highly anticipated NFL debut, but both of them stalled out in the red zone as the Bears settled for a pair of field goals. The rookie first overall pick had completions of 42 yards to running back D'Andre Swift and 26 yards to tight end Cole Kmet, but the wide receiver trio of DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze combined for only two catches, both by Moore. Williams will likely get a chance to clean up the red-zone struggles and build chemistry with his receivers in next Saturday's preseason game against the Bengals.

Jayden Daniels QB | WAS
Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Runs in TD on only drive Saturday
Daniels completed two of three passes for 45 yards and rushed once for a three-yard touchdown in Saturday's 20-17 preseason loss to the Jets.
Daniels' first NFL game action got off to an ideal start, as he connected with Dyami Brown for a 42-yard gain on his second pass and ultimately capped the opening drive with a three-yard touchdown run. That was the only drive Daniels played, but the rookie second overall pick still managed to put his dual-threat skill set on display during his short time in the game. Marcus Mariota played the next drive, which went three-and-out. Daniels is on track to open the regular season as the starter over Mariota, and the rookie could get a more extensive dress rehearsal in next Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins.

Matthew Stafford QB | LAR
Rams' Matthew Stafford: Not in line to play in preseason
Stafford is not slated to see any preseason action, Cameron DaSilvaof USA Today and Gary Klein of the L.A. Times report.
Given Stafford's injury history, it's no surprise that the Rams plan to play it safe with their veteran starter. While it's unclear if fellow QB Jimmy Garoppolo will see exhibition snaps, look for Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn to get their share of work during the the team's looming three-game preseason slate.
