Broncos' Melvin Gordon: Enters not guilty plea

Gordon's attorneys entered a not guilty plea for his DUI charge from Oct. 14, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.

Gordon recently had a virtual court hearing, and his next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 24. It sounds like the case will be resolved within the next few months, so Gordon could be suspended for the start of the 2021 regular season. He'll be entering the second season of a two-year contract after rushing for 986 yards and nine touchdowns in his first year with the Broncos.

  • Bengals' Trayveon Williams: Infrequently employed

Williams finished the 2020 season with 26 carries for 157 yards, including four carries for 74 yards in the season finale against the Ravens.

Williams broke off a 55-yard run in the finale, but, despite the big run, he got very little work for the remainder of the game. Williams will be entering his third season in the NFL with little game action. With Joe Mixon signed long-term, there's not a lot of hope for Williams to earn a significant role with the Bengals.

  • Samaje Perine RB | CIN

Bengals' Samaje Perine: Shows promise late

Perine finished the 2020 season with nine carries for 51 yards in a Week 17 loss against the Ravens. He ended the season with 63 carries for 301 yards and three touchdowns, along with 11 catches for 66 yards.

Perine isn't especially fast or shifty, but he proved capable as the backup to Giovani Bernard after Joe Mixon got hurt. Perine is a free agent this offseason.

  • Chiefs' Clyde Edwards-Helaire: Logs limited practice

Edwards-Helaire (ankle/hip) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday.

Per Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com, Edwards-Helaire -- who last played Week 15 -- is progressing well from his high-ankle sprain, and the running back's presence at practice Wednesday bodes well for his chances of suiting up for Sunday's divisional-round game against the Browns. Time will tell if Edwards-Helaire approaches Kansas City's playoff opener with an injury designation, or if he's fully cleared to play in advance of the weekend.

  • Saints' Latavius Murray: Sits out with quad injury

Murray was held out of practice Wednesday due to a quadriceps injury, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.

During this past Sunday's wild-card victory against the Bears, Murray pulled up at the end of a five-yard catch in the third quarter and eventually was deemed questionable to return with a thigh injury. With a few days to evaluate his health, he's officially tending to a quad issue. Murray is good for at least a handful of touches per game -- his season low is five, done twice (Weeks 2 and 14) -- but those could be up for grabs if he's unable to get healthy in time for Sunday's matchup with the Buccaneers.

  • Ronald Jones RB | DAL

Buccaneers' Ronald Jones: Misses Wednesday's practice

    Jones (quadriceps) didn't practice Wednesday.

Jones was active ahead of last week's wild-card win over Washington, but he didn't take any snaps after suffering an apparent setback in pregame warmups. Though he'll have two more chances to resume practicing before the Buccaneers rule on his status for Sunday's divisional-round game at New Orleans, Jones' workload could be difficult to predict unless head coach Bruce Arians offers clarity on his plans for the 23-year-old. While Jones was on the sideline lat week, Leonard Fournette performed admirably, running 19 times for 93 yards in the win.

  • Chiefs' Clyde Edwards-Helaire: Spotted at practice

Edwards-Helaire (ankle/hip) was present for Wednesday's practice, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.

After Kansas City clinched the AFC's No. 1 seed in advance of the Chiefs' Week 17 game against the Chargers, Edwards-Helaire was held out of the team's regular-season finale. The running back's presence on the field Wednesday suggest that he's trending toward a return to action Sunday in the Chiefs' postseason opener versus the Browns. The Chiefs will issue their first official practice report of the week later Wednesday, revealing the extent of Edwards-Helaire's participation in the session.

  • Ronald Jones RB | DAL

Buccaneers' Ronald Jones: Not seen at practice

Jones (quadriceps) didn't participate in the media-access portion of Wednesday's practice, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Though he was active for Tampa Bay's win over Washington in the wild-card round, Jones didn't actually take any snaps in the game. His absence Wednesday isn't a great sign, but he still has two more chances to get on the practice field before the end of the week. If Jones is out or limited again, Leonard Fournette would be a clear favorite to lead the Tampa backfield Sunday in New Orleans.

  • Melvin Gordon RB | BAL

Broncos' Melvin Gordon: Totals 1,114 yards, 10 touchdowns

Gordon ran for 986 yards and nine touchdowns on 215 carries in 2020 while adding 32 catches on 44 targets for 158 yards and a touchdown. He lost four fumbles during the season.

The debate in Denver heading into the season was how the Broncos would find ways to get the ball into the hands of its two talented backs -- Gordon and Phillip Lindsay.  The answer was largely just to feed Gordon. Gordon averaged 16.5 touches per game to Lindsay's 11.4 during the 2020 season and the raw touch numbers show greater disparity as Lindsay missed five full games with toe, knee and hip injuries. Gordon proved to be the difference in a couple of Denver's wins, including those against the Jets and Dolphins. His abilities as an inside runner and in the passing game also seemed to make him a better fit than Lindsay in Pat Shurmur's offense. Gordon's fumbles were a major issue and arguably cost the Broncos the season opener against Tennessee and almost came back to bite them against Miami. He also faces a suspension stemming from a DUI to start the 2021 campaign. The offseason won't, however, have as many questions as last: Gordon is the lead back in Mile High.

  • Zack Moss RB | CIN

Bills' Zack Moss: Shifted to IR

Moss (ankle) was moved to injured reserve Tuesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Moss was already deemed out for the season after suffering an ugly ankle injury during Saturday's win over the Colts. In playoff formats that requires an official IR designation before a player can be replaced, Moss is now eligible to be swapped out.
