Dylan Sampson RB | CLE
Browns' Dylan Sampson: Working with starters
Sampson was the first running back through the rotation both Wednesday and Thursday during joint practices with the Eagles, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
Sampson started Cleveland's preseason opener and took two carries for six yards, although it didn't mean much with most of the key veterans -- including RB Jerome Ford -- being held out. The first-team reps in practice are a better sign, especially with no report of Ford being injured, potentially hinting at a rotation between the two RBs early in the season. Fellow rookie running back Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned -- and uncertain to play this season -- after a July arrest for domestic violence charges.

Jaylen Warren RB | PIT
Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Expects to play this week
Warren suggested Tuesday that he expects to play in Saturday's preseason game against Tampa Bay.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin hadn't announced anything as of Thursday morning, but it would follow his pattern from past seasons if he played most of his healthy starters in the second preseason game. While it remains to be seen if Warren is technically a starter come Week 1, there's no doubt he'll be a big part of the offense. Starter or not, his workload will partially depend on the progress of rookie Kaleb Johnson, who took nine touches for 26 yards in the preseason opener while playing extensively with Pittsburgh's backups. The presence of QB Aaron Rodgers could also be a factor, as he has a well-documented preference for veteran teammates and recently told reporters that he thinks Warren can be a three-down back, per Nick Farabaugh and John Luciew of Penn Live. That said, Rodgers' preferences might also work in favor of free-agent addition Kenneth Gainwell, another veteran RB with plenty of experience on passing downs.

Miles Sanders RB | DAL
Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Takes part in team drills
Sanders participated in team drills Wednesday for the first time in more than a week, Todd Archer of ESPN reports.
The veteran running back returned to practice Tuesday after missing time with a knee issue, and he was a full participant Wednesday. Sanders remains behind Javonte Williams on the Cowboys' backfield depth chart, and he was being pushed by rookie Jaydon Blue (heel) earlier in camp before the 2025 fifth-round pick was sidelined last week. Given that he only signed a one-year, $1.34 million contract with the team back in March, Sanders isn't a lock to have a significant role in the offense.

Deneric Prince RB | NE
Patriots' Deneric Prince: Reverts to IR with New England
Prince (undisclosed) reverted to injured reserve with the Patriots on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Prince signed with the Patriots on Sunday, but he quickly suffered an undisclosed injury at practice, which is set to sideline him for the entirety of the 2025 season while on IR. The running back would be eligible to return to action this year if he reaches an injury settlement with New England.

Marcus Major RB | BAL
Marcus Major: Let go by Baltimore
The Ravens waived Major (concussion) on Wednesday, per the NFL's transaction report.
Major wasn't waived with an injury designation, which indicates he cleared the league's five-step concussion protocol. Assuming he clears waivers, Major will look to catch on with a team looking for backfield depth.

Derrick Henry RB | BAL
Ravens' Derrick Henry: Not in line to play vs. Cowboys
Henry is among the key Ravens players not slated to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Cowboys, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.
Henry, who also didn't play in last Thursday's preseason opener, is no lock to see any action in the Ravens' Aug. 23 preseason finale, either. Ahead of Week 1, he's entrenched as a high-volume No. 1 option in a backfield that also includes Justice Hill, Keaton Mitchell and Rasheen Ali.

Rhamondre Stevenson RB | NE
Patriots' Rhamondre Stevenson: Injury not viewed as significant
Coach Mike Vrabel noted Wednesday that the unspecified injury Stevenson is dealing with is not considered significant, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reports.
The report adds that Vrabel doesn't anticipate a long-term absence for Stevenson, but at this stage the running back appears to be trending toward missing Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings. When healthy, Stevenson and promising rookie TreVeyon Henderson are projected to form a 1-2 punch this season in a New England backfield that also includes Antonio Gibson.

Rhamondre Stevenson RB | NE
Patriots' Rhamondre Stevenson: Misses another practice
Stevenson (undisclosed) won't practice Wednesday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Per Mark Daniels of MassLive.com, coach Mike Vrabel noted Wednesday that Stevenson is dealing with an (unspecified) injury that he sustained in this past Friday's preseason contest against the Commanders. As a result, the running back's status for Saturday's game against the Vikings is cloudy.

Deuce Vaughn RB | DEN
Cowboys' Deuce Vaughn: Getting first-team reps
Vaughn worked with the first-team offense during practice Tuesday, Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reports.
The undersized back showed his usual elusiveness, but Vaughn heads into his third NFL season having yet to make much of an impact with his rare touches in game action. He's getting opportunities with the first team while rookie Jaydon Blue (heel) is sidelined, but Vaughn faces an uphill battle to even have a spot on the 53-man roster with Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders also ahead of him on the depth chart, and 2025 seventh-round pick Phil Mafah looking good in camp as well.

Kareem Hunt RB | KC
Chiefs' Kareem Hunt: Nursing quad contusion
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Hunt (quadriceps) is dealing with a quad contusion and may not be available for Friday's preseason matchup against Seattle, Nate Taylor of ESPN.com reports.
Hunt is an established veteran who boasts significant familiarity with Kansas City's rushing scheme, so it would make sense for the team to hold him out of exhibition action if he's anything less than 100 percent healthy. In limited action during the Chiefs' preseason opener against Arizona, Hunt rushed twice for 12 yards and secured one of two targets for five yards, entering the game after Isiah Pacheco. His primary competition for the No. 2 backfield gig is Elijah Mitchell.
