  • Broncos' Javonte Williams: Suiting up in preseason opener

Williams is warming up to play with the first-team offense in Denver's preseason opener versus Indianapolis on Sunday, Ryan McFadden of The Denver Post reports.

The Broncos are set to play most of their starters Sunday, though Williams is unlikely to see the field for more than a series or two. The running back is poised to lead Denver's backfield in 2024 after tallying 774 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 217 attempts along with 228 yards and two more scores on 47 catches across 16 regular-season contests last year. Williams reportedly lost weight in the offseason in an effort to improve his conditioning.

  • Browns' Pierre Strong: Biggest backfield workload Saturday

Strong carried the ball six times for 15 yards and caught two of three targets for 10 yards in Saturday's 23-10 preseason loss to the Packers. He also returned one kickoff for 27 yards.

The 2022 fourth-round pick was the second Cleveland running back into the game after Jerome Ford, and Strong wound up leading the team in carries, although no Browns RB had much success on the ground. Strong also figures to begin the regular season in the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, but his role and workload depend entirely on how quickly Nick Chubb (knee) completes his recovery and reclaims his starting job.

  • Jerome Ford RB | WAS

Browns' Jerome Ford: Limited work Saturday

Ford carried the ball twice for four yards in Saturday's 23-10 preseason loss to the Packers.

The 24-year-old running back got the start for Cleveland's preseason opener but played only one series before Pierre Strong took over. Ford is expected to begin the regular season as the No. 1 option in the backfield, and even once Nick Chubb (knee) is cleared to return to action, the 2022 fifth-round pick should still have a significant role while Chubb ramps up his workload.

  • Emanuel Wilson RB | SEA

Packers' Emanuel Wilson: Sees surprising workload Saturday

Wilson carried the ball 13 times for 67 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 23-10 preseason win over the Browns. He added 28 yards on one kickoff return.

Josh Jacobs and AJ Dillon played only one series each, but Wilson still saw more volume than anticipated after rookie MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) left the game early in the second half. Wilson, a 2023 undrafted free agent, was productive in his limited opportunities last season, but even if Lloyd's injury proves to be serious, he's still unlikely to see a significant workload once the games begin to count.

  • Josh Jacobs RB | GB

Packers' Josh Jacobs: Sees brief action Saturday

Jacobs gained seven yards on his only carry and caught his only target for a two-yard loss in Saturday's 23-10 preseason win over the Browns.

The running back dealt with a minor groin injury earlier in the week, but Jacobs was healthy for the Packers' preseason opener and played one series before calling it a day. The former Raider has topped 1,100 scrimmage yards in each of his first five seasons in the NFL, but Green Bay's coaching staff has suggested Jacobs will be used a little more frequently as a receiver during his first season with his new club. Jacobs could see a bigger workload in next Sunday's preseason clash with the Broncos as he gets ready for Week 1.

  • Alvin Kamara RB | NO

Saints' Alvin Kamara: Two carries in preseason opener

Kamara rushed twice for three yards and did not draw a target in the Saints' 16-14 preseason win over the Cardinals on Saturday night.

The veteran running back was in on the first two possessions with the rest of the healthy members of the Saints' first-team offense and recorded a five-yard gain on the first play from scrimmage. Kamara isn't expected to need much preseason action to prepare for what will be his eighth NFL campaign, so it remains to be seen if he'll be back on the field for a road exhibition matchup versus the 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 18.

  • Zamir White RB | LV

Raiders' Zamir White: Finds end zone in preseason loss

White carried the ball six times for 23 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 24-23 preseason loss to the Vikings.

The third-year back got the start and capped a drive in the second quarter with a two-yard touchdown run that gave the Raiders a 17-7 lead, before the game tilted the Vikings' way after halftime. White has little competition for the starting job in the Las Vegas backfield, but he heads into 2024 as a relatively unproven option who managed just one touchdown on 136 touches over his first two NFL campaigns while working as Josh Jacobs' backup.

  • Kene Nwangwu RB | NYJ

Vikings' Kene Nwangwu: Scores TD in preseason opener

Nwangwu had five carries for 52 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown, in Saturday's preseason win over Las Vegas.

Nwangwu has had a role in the offense as the No. 3 running back in training camp and looked good in his preseason debut. He showed off his speed on his long touchdown run when he turned on the jets after finding a large hole in the defense. While he's not likely to get many carries behind Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler, Nwangwu at least looks like he'll be next up should one of the top two backs succumb to an injury.

  • Bucky Irving RB | TB

Buccaneers' Bucky Irving: Solid showing in preseason start

Irving rushed six times for 28 yards and a touchdown and brought in one of two targets for no gain in the Buccaneers' 17-14 preseason win over the Bengals on Saturday night. He also returned one kickoff for 22 yards.

Irving drew the start due to Rachaad White being held out, and the rookie responded with an impressive showing in his first taste of NFL on-field action. The Oregon product also capped off the Buccaneers' only scoring drive of the first half with a five-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. Irving has reportedly been impressing in training camp practices as well, and he increasingly appears likely to open the season as the No. 2 back due to veteran Chase Edmonds (undisclosed) having missed over two weeks of practice and still devoid of a return timeline.

  • Chiefs' Deneric Prince: Six touches in preseason loss

Prince rushed four times for 16 yards and brought in both targets for 10 yards in the Chiefs' 26-13 preseason loss to the Jaguars on Saturday night. He also returned one kickoff for 25 yards.

Prince was the third running back to record a touch after Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire had finished their work for the night. The second-year Tulsa product currently slots in as the No. 3 running back on the preseason depth chart, but he'll have to hold off the more experienced Keaontay Ingram for that role over the remaining two preseason games.
