  • Malik Davis RB | DAL

Malik Davis: Reverts back to practice squad

Davis reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Davis played 16 snaps on special teams but didn't record any stats during Sunday's 22-20 loss to the Dolphins. The veteran running back has appeared in three games for Dallas this season, but he hasn't yet handled an offensive snap.

  • Browns' Pierre Strong: Most carries since Week 8

Strong had five carries for 22 yards, did not catch his lone target and returned one kickoff for 36 yards in Sunday's 36-22 win over Houston in Week 16.

Strong's opening kickoff return gave the offense good field position, which set up a 53-yard connection from quarterback Joe Flacco to wideout Amari Cooper. Three plays later, the Browns had a 7-0 lead just 1:42 into the game. That sequence set the tone of the day. On offense, Strong's five totes were his most since Week 8 when Jerome Ford was dealing with an ankle injury. The Browns return to action quickly, Thursday night at home against the Jets, which could lead to a bigger role for Strong as Kareem Hunt is working through a groin injury.

  • Dameon Pierce RB | PHI

Texans' Dameon Pierce: Scores on special teams

Pierce returned five kickoffs for 174 yards, including a 98-yard touchdown, in Sunday's 36-22 loss to the Browns in Week 16. He added three carries for six yards and caught one of two targets for 10 yards.

Pierce provided an early lift by taking a kickoff to the house after Cleveland had jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but Houston's offense was unable to take advantage of the momentum swing. He had just 15 snaps on offense, continuing a downward trend after getting just four in Week 15. Since returning from an ankle injury five weeks ago, Pierce has a combined 85 yards on offense and slipped behind Devin Singletary on the depth chart. While the ankle could have played a role in his diminished production, Sunday's TD return is a strong sign it's no longer a factor, if it ever was -- he hadn't been doing much as the team's lead back prior to the injury.

  • Chase Edmonds RB | WAS

Buccaneers' Chase Edmonds: Season-high carry total in win

Edmonds rushed 10 times for 25 yards in the Buccaneers' 30-12 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.

The sixth-year veteran's usage shot back up Sunday after he'd followed a 10-touch tally Week 14 with just three carries against the Packers in Week 15. Edmonds' carry total Sunday was a season high and qualified as his most usage on the ground since Week 1 of last season in his Dolphins debut. The encouraging increase in involvement does come with a caveat, however, as it appeared to be largely the byproduct of an extremely positive second-half game script for the Buccaneers' running game.

  • Trey Sermon RB | PIT

Colts' Trey Sermon: Just two carries in loss

Sermon had two carries for three yards in Sunday's 29-10 loss to Atlanta.

Both Goodson and Trey Sermon played 14 snaps on offense in reserve roles behind Jonathan Taylor (thumb), who made his return from a three-game absence while Zack Moss (forearm) sat out Sunday. Goodson, who had one carry and two receptions, drew more opportunities than Sermon, but both were used sparingly with Taylor available again. Sermon looks to be the top runner behind Taylor while Goodson profiles as superior pass-catching options, but both could see their roles on offense disappear entirely if Moss is able to play Week 17 against the Raiders.

  • Justice Hill RB | BAL

Ravens' Justice Hill: Earns 13 touches

Hill rushed the ball 10 times for 26 yards in Monday's 33-19 win over the 49ers. He added three receptions (on three targets) for 31 yards.

Hill led the Baltimore backfield with 13 touches but managed only 57 total yards. He was extremely inefficient on the ground, averaging only 2.6 yards per attempt with his longest rush going for six yards. His work as a pass catcher was more noteworthy, as he tallied his highest target count since Week 8. Gus Edwards will almost certainly maintain the goal-line role moving forward, meaning Hill will have to rack up yards and receptions to be fantasy-relevant for the final two weeks of the regular season.

  • Tyler Goodson RB | ATL

Colts' Tyler Goodson: Records 30 total yards in loss

Goodson had one carry for 15 yards and one reception for 15 yards on two targets in Sunday's 29-10 loss to Atlanta.

Both Goodson and Trey Sermon played 14 snaps on offense in reserve roled behind Jonathan Taylor (thumb), who made his return from a three-game absence. Goodson took on more opportunities than Sermon, who had two carries, but Goodson's role may have been enhanced by the fact that the Colts were trailing for much of the second half and went into a pass-happy game script. Zack Moss (forearm) missed Sunday's game and will slot back in as the top complement behind Taylor if he's able to play Week 17 versus the Raiders, so both Goodson and Sermon could soon be in danger of falling out of the backfield rotation.

  • Packers' Patrick Taylor: Four touches in Week 16

Taylor had three carries for four yards and one reception for minus-1 yard in Sunday's 33-30 victory over the Panthers.

Taylor tallied multiple touches for the fourth time in five games, but with both Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon suiting up in the same game for the first time since Week 11, he was relegated to the third spot on the depth chart. If both of his fellow running backs are able to go again in Week 17, expect Taylor to wind up in a similar role.

  • Gus Edwards RB | LAC

Ravens' Gus Edwards: Keeps finding end zone

Edwards rushed the ball nine times for 31 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 33-19 win over the 49ers. He also recorded one reception (on one target) for 39 yards.

Edwards took a back seat to Justice Hill in overall opportunities in the absence of Keaton Mitchell (knee), but he still managed one of his more productive games from a yardage perspective. He delivered in his typical goal-line role by plunging into the end zone from one yard away early in the second quarter. Uncharacteristically, Edwards also delivered as a pass catcher on a 39-yard catch-and-run just after halftime, though he was denied the end zone from five yards away one play later. It appears that Edwards has moved into a timeshare in the backfield with Hill, though he's almost certain to hold on to goal-line opportunities, maintaining his fantasy appeal.

  • 49ers' Christian McCaffrey: Pacing league with 21 TDs

McCaffrey rushed 14 times for 103 yards and a touchdown while adding six receptions for 28 yards off of 10 targets in Monday's 33-19 loss to the Ravens.

It was a disastrous night for the 49ers on the whole, but it's hard to point any fingers at McCaffrey after he logged the fourth 100-yard rushing game over his last five contests. The MVP candidate also punched in his 21st touchdown of the season, maintaining pace for the league lead with Miami's Raheem Mostert, who also registered his 21st score earlier in Week 16. McCaffrey has just set a new personal best in rushing yards over a single season with 1,395 through 15 games, surpassing the 1,387 yards on the ground that he posted during his incredible 2019 campaign with the Panthers. With just two games left in the regular season, McCaffrey should be afforded ample opportunities to bolster his award bids, starting with a road matchup against the Commanders on Sunday.
