  • Jonnu Smith TE | PIT

Titans' Jonnu Smith: Gets work on side field

Smith (knee) worked on a side field Sunday, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.

Smith remains on the PUP list but was seen working with Derrick Henry (calf) as well as head coach Mike Vrabel during practice. The team has stated they hope Smith will be ready for Week 1, though he'll have to ramp up his work soon to make that goal realistic.

  • Ethan Wolf TE | NO

Jaguars' Ethan Wolf: Signs with Jags

Wolf signed a contract with Jacksonville on Sunday, Hays Carlyon of 1010 AM WJXL reports.

Wolf signed with the Panthers in May but was waived by the team early in training camp. The 23-year-old went undrafted out of Tennessee in 2018 and spent a couple months on the Packers' practice squad before suffering an undisclosed injury.

  • Zach Conque TE | JAC

Zach Conque: Let go by Colts

Conque was waived by the Colts on Sunday.

Conque recently reached an agreement with the Colts on Aug. 3 but will be looking for a new team now. The 25-year-old has yet to see time on an NFL team's roster during the regular season and will be facing an uphill battle to do so with another team in the league.

  • Ian Thomas TE | LV

Panthers' Ian Thomas: Not practicing Sunday

Thomas (ribs) sat out of practice Sunday, Brendan Marks of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Thomas sustained the injury in Thursday's preseason opener against Chicago. It's a tough break for the 23-year-old, who had also been dealing with a leg injury during training camp. While Thomas is sidelined, Chris Manhertz will pick up the backup reps behind Greg Olsen.

  • Rico Gathers TE | DAL

Browns' Rico Gathers: Signs with Cleveland

Gathers (suspension) signed a contract with the Browns on Sunday.

Gathers was waived by the Cowboys on Wednesday and went unclaimed, making him a free agent. He's facing a one-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. He'll be competing for a depth tight end and special teams role with the Browns.

  • Nick Truesdell TE | MIN

Jets' Nick Truesdell: Re-signs with Jets

The Jets signed Truesdell on Saturday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.

Truesdell was cut by the team Tuesday and was able to re-sign with the team days later. The 29-year-old spent time with the Vikings' practice squad last season and will battle for a depth role heading into the 2019 season.

  • Foster Moreau TE | HOU

Raiders' Foster Moreau: Held in check by Rams defense

Moreau registered one reception for eight yards during Saturday's 14-3 win against the Rams.

The fourth-round pick out of LSU committed a holding penalty that negated a positive rushing play, but moments later helped the offense rebound and move the chains by recording the first catch of his pro career. He was not heavily utilized in the passing game during his college days, but he showed route-running and pass-catching skills that foretell a potentially prosperous NFL career. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Moreau averaged 23 receptions for 275 yards and 2.5 touchdowns between his junior and senior seasons for the Tigers.

  • Travis Kelce TE | KC

Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Makes explosive catch

Kelce caught one pass for 36 yards against the Bengals in the team's first preseason contest Saturday.

Kelce beat safety Shawn Williams on a deep route on the team's first offensive play. While he was only on the field for one series, it's clear that Kelce will remain a focal point of the offense throughout the regular season. Though there were some questions regarding Kelce's health due to offseason ankle surgery, his participation in training camp and the team's first preseason contest should be reassuring.

  • Drew Sample TE | CIN

Bengals' Drew Sample: Mental errors in first game action

Sample hauled in one pass on three targets for seven yards in the team's first preseason game against the Chiefs on Saturday.

Sample managed to haul in his first pass in game action, a seven-yard reception from Jeff Driskel. Unfortunately, he stood out more for mental mistakes, as he was penalized for a false start as well as offensive pass interference. Overall, the second-round pick failed to take advantage of his first chance to make a positive game-situation impression on his new team.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Not suiting up Saturday

Kittle isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason game versus the Cowboys, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury Newsn reports.

The vast majority of expected starters are taking a seat, Kittle among them. The approach is a prudent one after the tight end admitted to playing through injuries, including broken ribs, during his 2018 breakout and also dealing with a minor hip issue in the offseason. Kittle was equally successful with every 49ers quarterback last season, so he shouldn't miss a beat with Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) slated to be on the field Week 1 and beyond.
