  • A.J. Brown WR | NE

Eagles' A.J. Brown: Not expected to play Sunday

With the Eagles in line to rest key starters, Brown isn't expected to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Browns, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Per Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Quez Watkins, Jalen Reagor, Zach Pascal, Britain Covey, John Hightower, Devon Allen and Deon Cain were the Philadelphia receivers spotted in uniform during warmups, and it looks like they'll handle WR reps on Sunday.

  • Darnell Mooney WR | NYG

Bears' Darnell Mooney: Likely to sit Saturday

Mooney and the Bears starters are expected to be sidelined Saturday against the Browns, Alyssa Barbieri of USA Today reports.

After playing the starters briefly in each of the first two preseason games, the first-string unit is in line to sit out in order to avoid unnecessary injuries. Assuming that's the case, we'll see Mooney next Week 1 against the 49ers.

  • Vikings' Ihmir Smith-Marsette: Struggles as punt returner

Smith-Marsette had four receptions for 27 yards on four targets in Saturday's preseason loss to San Francisco. He fumbled a punt return out of bounds and bobbled another, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Smith-Marsette has made a strong case this preseason to be the Vikings' No. 4 wide receiver, but his perch atop the depth chart at punt returner looks shaky. Winning a role on special teams could help him win a reserve receiver role in his competition with Bisi Johnson, Albert Wilson, Dan Chisena and sixth-round rookie Jalen Nailor.

  • Browns' Michael Woods: Not in line to play Sunday

Woods (hamstring) is not in line to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Eagles, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The 2022 sixth-rounder thus has one more chance (next Saturday against the Bears) to log preseason action. Once healthy, Woods will look to cement a spot in a Cleveland wide receiver corps that also includes Amari Cooper, Donovan Peoples-Jones, David Bell and Anthony Schwartz.

  • Shi Smith WR | KC

Panthers' Shi Smith: Catches one pass

Smith caught one of two targets for eight yards in Friday's 20-10 preseason loss to the Patriots.

Smith also returned one punt for 15 yards. With fellow wideouts DJ Moore (shoulder), Robbie Anderson (quadriceps) and Terrace Marshall (hamstring) currently sidelined, Smith has gotten run with the Panthers' starting offense. In doing so, he's been a standout during practice, Augusta Stone of the team's official site reports, and Smith caught two targets for 34 yards from quarterback Baker Mayfield in Carolina's opening preseason game. Although Friday's contest saw Smith make a small contribution while playing with reserve signal-callers P.J. Walker and Matt Corral, his performances to date appear likely to earn him a roster spot ahead of the upcoming campaign.

  • Josh Palmer WR | BUF

Chargers' Joshua Palmer: Team-high receiving yards in loss

Palmer secured three of four targets for 75 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers' 32-18 preseason loss to the Cowboys on Saturday night.

Palmer notched a team-high amount of receiving yardage and also recorded an 18-yard touchdown grab off a screen pass early in the second quarter. The 22-year-old notably saw the first two targets of the game from Easton Stick, with the first play resulting in a defensive offside penalty and the second in an interception. Palmer's strong performance Saturday after he went without a catch in the preseason-opening loss to the Rams seemingly further cements his hold on the No. 3 receiver job.

  • Jaguars' Christian Kirk: Targeted eight times

Kirk recorded five receptions on eight targets for 54 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Steelers.

Kirk appeared in game action for the first time with the Jaguars, and he led the team with eight targets. The results were uneven, but he hauled in a 22-yard reception and also worked effectively in the middle areas of the field. Kirk will be a substantial part of Jacksonville's offense after signing a lucrative multi-year deal to join the team this offseason.

  • George Pickens WR | DAL

Steelers' George Pickens: Quiet in second preseason game

Pickens caught both of his targets for six yards in Saturday's preseason win over the Jaguars.

Pickens had a quiet game as each of Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson and Pat Freiermuth played. The rookie second-round pick still caught a pass from Kenny Pickett midway through the second quarter, but he also played at least briefly with the backups in the second half. Pickens has had an impressive training camp by all accounts, but he will still likely be prioritized behind at least Johnson and Claypool for targets once the regular season rolls around.

  • Jalen Tolbert WR | MIA

Cowboys' Jalen Tolbert: Pair of grabs in win

Tolbert brought in two of four targets for 25 yards in the Cowboys' 32-18 preseason win over the Chargers on Saturday night.

The rookie drew the start and turned in a solid effort overall while working with Cooper Rush as his quarterback. Tolbert's numbers were an improvement on the 2-7-0 line he furnished in the preseason opener against the Broncos last Saturday night, and he remains slated for a starting role to open the regular season with Michael Gallup (knee) and James Washington (foot) projected to be unavailable.

  • Steelers' Diontae Johnson: First preseason action

Johnson recorded two receptions on four targets for 33 yards in Saturday's preseason win over the Jaguars.

Johnson played throughout the first half, catching passes from Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett. The fourth-year wide receiver found the end zone on an 11-yard pass from Pickett, but the touchdown was nullified by offsetting penalties. Regardless of who is under center for the Steelers in Week 1, Johnson will command a significant share of the targets.
