Juwann Winfree WR | HOU
Packers' Juwann Winfree: Garners start in exhibition opener
Winfree started Friday's preseason opener against the 49ers and caught three passes for 27 yards.
Winfree did not stand out in Friday's contest, but he did make a nice catch off a tipped pass and hauled in the football all three times he was targeted. Of greatest import is the fact he -- along with Romeo Doubs -- was one of two receivers who opened the game on the field. The Packers held out a handful of wideouts, but the starting assignment confirms Winfree is in good standing among the group of receivers competing for a spot on the Packers' roster for Week 1.

Josh Johnson WR | DET
Lions' Josh Johnson: Sits out preseason opener
Johnson did not play in Friday's preseason game against Atlanta due to an undisclosed injury, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The nature of Johnson's injury is not certain, but the undrafted rookie out of Tulsa will need to show something this preseason to earn consideration for a spot on the practice squad.

Dez Fitzpatrick WR | LAC
Titans' Dez Fitzpatrick: Lack of impact
Fitzpatrick managed only reception on four targets for 10 yards in Thursday's 23-10 preseason loss to the Ravens.
Fitzpatrick played throughout the game but saw the majority of his targets in the closing moments. That's not a particularly positive sign for his potential role with the Titans come the regular season. That's even more the case given the positive comments that have come from camp regarding the performance of Racey McMath, Fitzpatrick's primary competition for the fifth spot on the receiver depth chart.

Racey McMath WR | DAL
Titans' Racey McMath: Making case for roster spot
McMath caught his lone target for 48 yards in Thursday's 23-10 preseason loss to the Ravens.
McMath has turned heads early on in training camp with a series of strong performances. He still wasn't overly involved in the offense in the Titans' opening preseason game, though he did make the most of his lone reception on a deep pass down the field from Malik Willis. McMath managed only two receptions in his rookie season, and he is currently competing with fellow second-year wideout Dez Fitzpatrick for the fifth spot on the wide receiver depth chart in Tennessee.

Jalen Reagor WR | MIA
Eagles' Jalen Reagor: Works with second team
Reagor recorded three receptions on four targets for 26 yards in Friday's 24-21 preseason loss to the Jets.
Reagor played with the second-team offense and caught passes from Gardner Minshew rather than Jalen Hurts. Nevertheless, he put in a solid performance -- highlighted by a 17-yard catch -- and also served as Philadelphia's top punt returner. Due to the acquisition of A.J. Brown, Reagor is fighting for a roster spot this preseason, but this performance should help him in that effort.
-
Quez Watkins WR | PHI
Eagles' Quez Watkins: Flashes as deep threat
Watkins recorded two receptions on three targets for 32 yards in Friday's 24-21 preseason loss to the Jets.
Watkins opened the game with a 28-yard reception, finding open space after Jalen Hurts rolled out to his right to extend the play. He figures to open the season as the Eagles' third receiver, but he'll clearly be prioritized behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith (groin) and also potentially Dallas Goedert in the passing offense. Watkins is coming off of a relatively strong 2021 season, during which he recorded 43 receptions for 647 yards and one touchdown.
-
Danny Gray WR | PHI
49ers' Danny Gray: Scores 76-yard touchdown Friday
Gray secured two of four targets for 99 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' 28-21 preseason win over the Packers on Friday night.
Gray's yardage total paced the 49ers' pass catchers on the night, and he also recorded a game-long reception when he hauled in a 76-yard touchdown pass from Trey Lance late in the first quarter. The rookie third-round pick's 4.3 speed was evident on the splash play, and Gray will continue his bid to secure a potential No. 3 or No. 4 receiver role during a road preseason clash against the Vikings a week from Saturday night.
-
Amari Rodgers WR | IND
Packers' Amari Rodgers: Stays busy in preseason opener
Rodgers brought in one of two targets for 22 yards, rushed once for four yards and returned two kickoffs for 69 yards in the Packers' 28-21 preseason loss to the 49ers on Friday night.
The second-year wideout made his presence felt in the preseason opener as he aims to secure a role in a Packers receiving corps that's in transition following the trade of Davante Adams. Rodgers' performance as a returner was the most productive aspect of his night, but his 22-yard grab was encouraging as well. The Clemson product will look to continue jockeying for depth-chart positioning in a home preseason matchup against the Saints next Friday night.
-
A.J. Brown WR | NE
Eagles' A.J. Brown: Not targeted in Philly debut
Brown was not targeted in Friday's 24-21 preseason loss to the Jets.
Brown was on the field for the Eagles' first offensive drive with the first team, though he didn't make it on the stat sheet. This performance is no indication of Brown's involvement once the regular season begins, as he'll lead Philadelphia's receiving corps and has the potential to form a strong duo with second-year wideout DeVonta Smith (groin).
-
Romeo Doubs WR | NE
Packers' Romeo Doubs: Finds end zone in preseason loss
Doubs secured three of seven targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in the Packers' 28-21 preseason loss to the 49ers on Friday night.
The rookie fourth-round pick carried over some of the momentum from what has been a noteworthy training camp, recording a 33-yard touchdown reception down the right sideline in the first quarter in which he gained some impressive separation. Doubs was subsequently the intended receiver on one of Jordan Love's three interceptions, but he certainly had an encouraging night overall. Doubs has been making a push for significant playing time on a Packers receiving corps that's ripe with opportunity for the coming season, and he'll have another chance to continue making his case against the Saints next Friday night at Lambeau Field.
