Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that he's yet to make a decision about whether Bennett or rookie Ty Simpson will open the regular season as the backup quarterback behind Matthew Stafford, Benjamin Royer of The Orange County Register reports.

Bennett made a strong case for the role with his performance in Saturday's preseason matchup against the Saints, when he completed 19 of 31 passes for 181 yards and logged two rushing touchdowns. Simpson saw less action and had a more modest performance, connecting on eight of 12 pass attempts for 73 yards while rushing three times for 10 yards, but it appears both QBs are still in contention to serve as the top regular-season backup behind Stafford. McVay noted Monday that he's "truly taking things a day at a time" and mentioned that Bennett book nine second-team reps during practice to Simpson's six. The head coach also said that Simpson will "definitely" play in the team's preseason finale Thursday versus the Chargers while indicating that it hasn't yet been decided if Bennett will suit up, which may suggest that the latter has the edge in the competition for the QB2 job despite the lack of a firm decision to this point.

Wright (hip) was put on injured reserve by the Saints on Monday.

The cornerback suffered a hip injury earlier in training camp that will now require season-ending surgery. White logged 35 special-teams snaps for New Orleans in 2025, but he did not record a tackle.

Delp is nursing a hamstring injury at training camp with the Saints, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Delp has caught three of six targets for 10 yards and a touchdown over the Saints' two preseason games this year, though all of that production came in the team's preseason opener. The 23-year-old was selected in the third round of this year's draft, and he's competing with veteran Noah Fant for the top reserve role at tight end behind Juwan Johnson this year. It's unclear what the severity of his injury is, but Delp will have a couple of chances to shake off the injury at practice before Friday's preseason finale versus Dallas.

Allen (quadriceps) was a limited participant in Monday's training camp practice, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.

Allen has been limited to side work in training camp while recovering from a quadriceps injury, but his ability to practice Monday, even in a limited capacity, is a positive sign for the 2023 fifth-rounder. He's unlikely to play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Chargers, but Allen is working his way toward being available for the Rams' regular-season opener against the 49ers on Thursday, Sept. 10.

Van Vooren signed with the Cowboys on Monday, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Van Vooren was waived by New England on Aug. 18. Dallas is dealing with injuries to backup tight ends Brevyn Spann-Ford (undisclosed), Michael Trigg (toe) and DJ Rogers (knee), and the team only played with two healthy tight ends in its last preseason game Saturday against the Cardinals, per Harris. Van Vooren, who has yet to make an NFL regular-season appearance, should have a chance to make his mark in Dallas' last preseason contest.

Caldwell (knee) was waived with an injury designation by the Chiefs on Monday.

Caldwell suffered a hyperextended left knee at Wednesday's practice, and as a result, he was let go by the team Monday. If the wide receiver goes unclaimed on waivers, he will revert to injured reserve with Kansas City.

Garrett (knee) did not participate in Monday's training camp practice, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.

Garrett has been held out of practice for the last couple of weeks while recovering from swelling in his knee. He's unlikely to play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Chargers, but he still has time to progress enough in his recovery to be cleared to play Week 1 against the 49ers on Thursday, Sept. 10.

Conner (foot) didn't take part in Monday's practice, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Conner hasn't played in any of the Cardinals' three preseason games so far and also hasn't been seen for the last handful of practices. He's dealing with lingering issues related to the foot surgery he underwent last fall and ended his season after Week 3. With Trey Benson (knee) getting waived/injured Monday, Conner is the top running back behind the duo of rookie third overall pick Jeremiyah Love (ankle) and Tyler Allgeier. Until Conner gets back on the field, though, Bam Knight is the team's likely No. 3 RB.

Prentice was waived by the Patriots on Monday.

Prentice was claimed off waivers by the Patriots in late July after being let go by the Panthers, and he was able to catch four of seven targets for 47 yards over two preseason games with New England before being let go Monday. If the wide receiver clears waivers this time around, he may end up sticking around as a member of the Patriots' practice squad.

Beck (ribs) continued to be a limited participant at Monday's practice, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports.

Beck fared well in the Hall of Fame Game against the Panthers, completing 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. However, the rookie third-round pick came out of that contest with a rib injury that has capped his practice reps in the meantime and otherwise sidelined him for the Cardinals' next two exhibitions. Beck thus has one more chance for preseason action Friday at Green Bay before likely being relegated to the team's No. 3 QB role behind Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew to begin his career.
