Hoffman signed a professional tryout agreement with the Oilers on Wednesday. At Hoffman's height, he recorded over 50 points in five straight campaigns from 2015-16 through 2019-20. Over the past four seasons, though, Hoffman has failed to reach the 20-goal and 40-point marks. He served in a bottom-six role with the Sharks in 2023-24, providing 10 goals and 23 points across 66 contests. If the 34-year-old makes the Oilers' Opening Night roster, he might go on to average even less ice time in 2024-25 than the 13:44 per game he logged in San Jose.

Hoffman will miss the final two games of the season due to an undisclosed injury, Max Miller of The Hockey News reports. Hoffman will finish the season having collected 10 goals, 23 points and an ugly minus-21 rating through 66 contests. The 34-year-old winger is set to hit the market as an unrestricted free agent this summer, and he'll likely need to settle for a short-term deal and a bottom-six role in order to see regular NHL time in 2024-25.

Hoffman had been a healthy scratch for the previous two games, but he joined the lineup since Filip Zadina (lower body) was unavailable Tuesday. The helper was Hoffman's first point since March 7 -- he missed eight games with a concussion last month and has struggled to produce offense in a fourth-line role since returning. Overall, the 34-year-old winger has 23 points, 71 shots on net and a minus-21 rating through 66 appearances.

Hoffman (concussion) will return to the lineup Thursday in Minnesota, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Hoffman is expected to line up on the third line with Nico Sturm and Filip Zadina against the Wild following his eight-game absence. Hoffman has 10 goals and 12 assists in 61 contests this season.
