  Varlamov (lower body) is unlikely to return this season, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Varlamov has been out since Nov. 29, and at this point, it doesn't look like he will return to action. At 36 years old, an absence of this length is moderately concerning, but there's been no indication the injury is career-threatening. He is under contract for two more seasons.

  Varlamov (lower body) is out indefinitely after he stopped skating and facing shots, according to Stefen Rosner of NHL.com on Saturday. Varlamov hasn't played since Nov. 29, and Marcus Hogberg (upper body) is unavailable, so the Islanders recalled Jakub Skarek from AHL Bridgeport on Monday to occupy the backup role behind Ilya Sorokin. The 36-year-old Varlamov has a 3-4-3 record with a 2.89 GAA and an .889 save percentage through 10 appearances this season.

  Varlamov (lower body) resumed skating Thursday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. Varlamov has been sidelined since early December due to a lower-body injury, and his activity Thursday marked the first time he's skated since sustaining his injury. The 36-year-old remains on long-term injured reserve and doesn't yet have a timetable to return, but he seems to be trending in the right direction.

Varlamov has been hampered by a lower-body injury since early December, and his move to LTIR shouldn't impact his return timetable much since the transaction is retroactive to Dec. 3. It's not yet clear when the 36-year-old netminder will be in the mix to return, but Ilya Sorokin should continue to see plenty of playing time while Varlamov is sidelined.

Varlamov has been dealing with a lower-body issue since Dec. 2, and he hasn't played since Nov. 29 against Washington. It's unclear when he will be ready to return, but he didn't accompany the Islanders on the team's upcoming three-game road trip.
