Ellis (back) will not play in 2022-23, according to Adam Kimelman of NHL.com. General manager Chuck Fletcher confirmed this news Thursday. It is no surprise. as Ellis has not played since Nov. 13, 2021. Unfortunately, there's a chance it could end up being the last game of his NHL career.

Ellis (back) is expected to miss the entirety of the 2022-23 campaign with what could be a career-threatening injury, NHL.com's Adam Kimelman reports. When asked about Ellis' injury, general manager Chuck Fletcher said "I know we've been probably vague with describing the injury, I think we've called it multifaceted, which it is. There's a psoas component of this, there's a hip component, there's an adductor component, so I'm not sure that if you go in and repair one part it's going to fix everything we're trying to work with. Trying to get everything back, rehab everything back. I've never heard of an injury like this. It's very complicated. A torn psoas is a very significant injury for a hockey player, a very rare injury, so we're doing the best we can and we'll just leave it up to the medical experts." Ellis was limited to just four games in 2021-22 due to his multi-faceted injury, and it appears as though his NHL future is truly up in the air. The 31-year-old defender has five seasons remaining on his eight-year, $50 million deal.

Ellis (pelvis) remains without a clear recovery timeline, Frank Seravalli of DFO reports Tuesday. Ellis was already expected to miss the start of the 2022-23 campaign but this latest news seems even less optimistic for the veteran defender. The Ontario native logged just four games for the Flyers last season and appears no closer to playing in a fifth.

Ellis (pelvis) may not be available for the start of the 2022-23 campaign. Coach John Tortorella told reporters, "If you're asking me right now, I doubt it," Adam Kimelman of NHL.com reports. Ellis was originally considered questionable for the start of training camp but it seems his long-term pelvic injury could sideline him even longer. Since being acquired by the Flyers via trade back in July of 2021, the veteran defenseman has logged just four games and should be expected to start the year on long-term injured reserve in order to give the team some cap relief.

Ellis (pelvis) is making improvement during his rehab but remains questionable for the start of training camp, Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now reports. Ellis played only four games last year due to ongoing issues with the injury, and he remains in the middle of a long rehab process. Barring setbacks, the defenseman isn't expected to be sidelined too long to begin the year. Once he's ready to play, Ellis will likely command a top-four role.
