Savard retired from the NHL after Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Capitals in Game 5. Savard played in 870 regular-season games and 62 playoff contests between the Blue Jackets, Lightning and Canadiens. The defenseman previously announced his retirement would come at the end of Montreal's playoff run. The 34-year-old accumulated 54 goals and 188 assists in the regular season as well as 17 points in the playoffs during his career.

Savard logged an assist in Friday's 6-3 win over the Capitals in Game 3. Savard ended a 12-game point drought with the helper. The 34-year-old announced April 18 that he intends to retire after this playoff run, Stu Cowan of The Montreal Gazette reports. Savard is filling a third-pairing role with limited minutes this postseason. He has one assist, three hits, four blocked shots and a minus-2 rating over three playoff contests.

He has earned one goal, 15 points, 47 shots on net, 173 blocked shots and 54 hits across 70 appearances this season. Savard will replace Arber Xhekaj on the third pairing versus the Red Wings.
