  • According to his agent Jason Davidson, Ferland's (head) No. 1 priority is his health and he has no desire to return to the game of hockey, Rick Dhaliwal of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports. Ferland's retirement had already essentially become official when he announced he didn't think he'd ever play professional hockey again in July of 2021, but this news can be taken as confirmation that he's played his last NHL shift. Ferland will end his career having racked up 60 goals, 134 points and 200 PIM in 335 games split between the Flames, Hurricanes and Canucks. He'll presumably remain on long-term injured reserve for the final year of his contract in 2022-23.

Ferland (head) was placed on long-term injured reserve Monday, Thomas Drance of The Athletic Vancouver reports. Ferland's NHL career is likely over and this is just a paper move for Vancouver to work with its cap space. The 29-year-old forward hasn't appeared in a game since the 2019-20 campaign.

  • When asked about his future, Ferland (head) stated "I am feeling better, I wish I could come back, but I know where I'm at now health-wise. No I don't think I'll play professionally ever again. Definitely no contact ever again, I need to take care of myself," Rick Dhaliwal of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports. Ferland suffered multiple concussions in 2019-20 before missing the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign, all but ending his professional playing career. The 2010 fifth-round pick will almost certainly remain on long-term injured reserve for the final two years of his contract rather than officially retiring, but he's played his last NHL shift. Ferland will end his career having racked up 60 goals, 134 points and 200 PIM in 335 games split between the Flames, Hurricanes and Canucks.

  • Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Lands on LTIR
    By RotoWire

The Canucks have placed Ferland (head) on long-term injured reserve, Thomas Drance of The Athletic Vancouver reports. Ferland hasn't played since he suffered yet another head injury during last season's playoffs and at this point he's looking iffy at best to suit up at all in 2020-21. Vancouver should release another update on the 28-year-old winger if and when he's cleared to resume skating.

  • Ferland (head) will not be with the team for the start of training camp, Rick Dhaliwal of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports. Ferland continues to deal with the effects of a concussion suffered back in October and appears no closer to getting back on the ice. At this point, the 28-year-old winger should be considered a near-lock for long-term injured reserve barring a drastic improvement in his recovery prior to Opening Night against Edmonton on Jan. 13.
