Markstrom stopped 19 of 20 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Blues. Markstrom has been on a roll of late and hasn't lost a game in regulation since Nov. 27, when he suffered a 3-0 defeat against St. Louis. Since then, the 34-year-old Swedish netminder has gone 6-0-1 with a 1.70 GAA and a .922 save percentage across seven appearances. He's been particularly outstanding over his last three games, stopping 48 of 51 shots for a 1.00 GAA and a .941 save percentage.

Markstrom will defend the road crease Tuesday versus the Blues, according to Catherine Bogart of the Devils' official site. Markstrom has won back-to-back games, allowing one goal in each victory. The Swedish netminder has been spectacular through five appearances in December, posting a 4-0-1 record, .934 save percentage and 1.39 GAA. Markstrom has struggled against St. Louis throughout his 15-year NHL career, as he owns a 4-10-2 record against the Blues.

Markstrom made 16 saves in a 4-1 win over Chicago on Saturday. Jason Dickinson got credited with beating Markstrom in the second period. Dickinson wired a snap shot that rang the crossbar, bounced out and went in off the face of the New Jersey defender Luke Hughes. Markstrom's crossbar saved him a goal afterward when Connor Bedard rang it with a wrist shot. Markstrom is 5-0-1 in his last six games with just 11 goals allowed, four of which came in a single game back on Nov. 29. Markstrom is 4-0-1 across his last five starts, allowing 10 goals on 117 shots (.915 save percentage). Overall, the 34-year-old is 14-6-2 with a 2.41 GAA and a .907 save percentage. Markstrom will face the Blackhawks, who are 30th in NHL scoring, averaging 2.45 goals per game this season.

Los Angeles grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the second period on a Jordan Spence one-timer, but for the most part, Markstrom was unbothered in the New Jersey crease. The veteran netminder has gone five straight starts without taking a regulation loss, going 4-0-1 over that stretch with a 1.98 GAA and .914 save percentage, and Markstrom's 14 wins on the season have him tied for second in the NHL behind Connor Hellebuyck's 18.
