Markstrom allowed two goals on 31 shots in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Flames. The third goal was an empty-netter. Markstrom couldn't get the better of one of his former teams, as the Flames controlled the pace of play pretty well. The 34-year-old still put in a good effort, maintaining a shutout until Blake Coleman's goal at 14:26 of the third period opened the floodgates. Markstrom's record dropped to 5-4-1 with a 2.62 GAA and a .907 save percentage over 10 starts in his first year with the Devils. He'll have two days to regroup before the Devils wrap up their road trip with a visit to Edmonton on Monday.

Markstrom will defend the visiting crease in Calgary on Friday, Sam Kasan of the Devils' official site reports. It will be Markstrom's first appearance back in Calgary since he was dealt from the Flames to New Jersey in the offseason. Markstrom spent four seasons with the Flames, going 105-78-25 with 15 shutouts. Markstrom is off to a good start with the Devils, as he is 5-3-1 with a 2.68 GAA and a .903 save percentage. The Flames started the season on fire with a 5-0-1 mark, but have since fallen upon hard times as they have lost four games in a row.

Markstrom posted a 20-save shutout in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Canucks. Markstrom picked up his first shutout of the year and the 21st of his career, and it came against a team he spent parts of seven seasons with. The 34-year-old has won consecutive starts for the first time this season, improving to 5-3-1 with a 2.68 GAA and a .903 save percentage through nine starts. Those aren't elite numbers, but Markstrom has been as advertised -- an improvement on last year's rotating crop of goalies in the Devils' crease. The Devils continue their road trip Friday in Calgary, which is another one of Markstrom's former NHL homes.

Markstrom will be in the road crease for Wednesday's game against the Canucks, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. Markstrom was in the starter's crease during Wednesday's morning skate, and he'll draw the start for a second consecutive game. The 34-year-old has had mixed results over his first eight outings of the season, logging a 4-3-1 record, 3.01 GAA and .895 save percentage.

Markstrom stopped 24 of 26 shots in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Ducks. Markstrom had allowed 10 goals over his last two outings, but he got back on track Sunday. The Devils surged ahead with a four-goal second period to give their netminder plenty of support. Through eight starts, Markstrom is 4-3-1 with a 3.01 GAA and an .895 save percentage, though his lukewarm numbers haven't cost him the No. 1 job in goal yet. The Devils are set for a trip out west over the next week, with stops in Vancouver on Wednesday, Calgary on Friday and Edmonton on Monday.
