Edmundson rushed toward the attacking zone after John Tavares sent a crisp pass his way from center ice, and it led to a Matthew Knies goal courtesy of a Mitch Marner helper. Still, since the Leafs are down 2-1 to Boston in the Conference Quarterfinals and are averaging just 2.00 goals per contest, this team needs to pick up the pace offensively. Edmundson isn't expected to do much in that area as a third-pairing defenseman without a role on the power play.

He missed nine of 10 outings from March 26-April 13 because of injury, which is likely why the Leafs have opted to give him the night off against the Lightning.

He logged 19:22 of ice time in Toronto's 6-5 loss to New Jersey after missing eight games. Timothy Liljegren (upper body) will replace Edmundson in Saturday's lineup.
