Head coach Greg Cronin said Monday that he anticipates Gibson (abdomen) accompanying the Ducks on their upcoming road trip, which begins Saturday against the Rangers, Derek Lee of The Hockey News reports. Gibson has missed the first few weeks of the regular season while recovering from an appendectomy, but he appears to be closing in on a return. While it's not yet clear when he could be back in game action, it's encouraging that he'll travel with the team for the upcoming four-game road trip. Once Gibson is able to return, he'll likely compete with Lukas Dostal for the starting goaltender job.

Gibson (abdomen) was designated for injured reserve Monday. Gibson was facing an absence of 3-6 weeks, so the fact that he was placed on IR shouldn't come as a surprise. Without a veteran netminder on the roster, the Ducks claimed James Reimer off waivers Monday. Once cleared to play, Gibson will compete with Lukas Dostal for the starting job.

Gibson underwent an appendectomy Wednesday and will miss the next 3-6 weeks, the team announced Thursday. Gibson had been practicing with the Ducks during training camp but didn't get into a preseason contest. He had a 13-27-2 record, 3.54 GAA and .888 save percentage in 46 games last season. Lukas Dostal might have gotten the start Opening Night regardless of Gibson's availability, but Dostal will be leaned on heavily while Gibson is out. While the 31-year-old Gibson is recovering, Oscar Dansk will likely serve as the No. 2 goaltender.

Gibson allowed six goals on 27 shots in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Flames. The Ducks were all-around awful over the first two periods, and a rally in the third wasn't quite enough to bail out Gibson's poor play. The 30-year-old hadn't played over the previous five contests, but the time off due to an upper-body injury didn't help him shake his losing streak, which is now at seven games with a 5.61 GAA and an .836 save percentage in that span. Overall, Gibson has gone 13-27-2 with a 3.54 GAA and an .888 save percentage through 46 appearances in what has been a fifth consecutive disappointing campaign. Lukas Dostal is likely to start Saturday in Los Angeles, and it's unclear which goalie will get the nod for the season finale in Vegas on Thursday.

Gibson (upper body) will start in Friday's home tilt versus Calgary, according to Alyson Lozoff of Bally Sports West. Gibson is making his first appearance since March 30. He stopped 31 of 37 shots en route to a 6-1 loss to Edmonton in that contest. That defeat was the latest setback in what's been a challenging campaign for the 30-year-old goaltender -- he has a 13-26-2 record, 3.48 GAA and .890 save percentage across 45 appearances. The Flames might be a somewhat favorable matchup, though. Calgary ranks 20th offensively with 3.01 goals per game.
