• Sharks' Cody Ceci: Flipped in salary dump

  Ceci was traded to the Sharks from the Oilers on Sunday, along with a 2025 third-round pick, in a swap for Ty Emberson. Ceci is carrying a $3.25 million cap hit while Emberson will now cost the Oilers just $950,000, a move that will likely allow Edmonton to re-sign one or both of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. For his part, the 30-year-old Ceci should slot into a top-four pairing for his new club, where he figures to offer 20-25 points while dishing out 100-plus hits and blocks.

  Ceci posted an assist and two hits in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Panthers in Game 7. Ceci set up a breakaway goal for Mattias Janmark in the first period. The helper ended a nine-game drought for Ceci, who was also scratched in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The 30-year-old defenseman had five points, 24 shots on net, 37 hits, 30 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating over 24 playoff outings. He's under contract for 2024-25, but with that being the last year on his deal, the Oilers may shop him around if they want to remodel their blue line.

With a goal and an assist over his last three games, Ceci has doubled his scoring output for the playoffs. Ceci tallied the opening goal early in the second period as the Oilers took control after a challenging first period. The goal was Ceci's second of the playoffs, both of which came in the second round. He's added one assist, 13 shots on net, 18 hits, 14 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating through 12 postseason appearances. Ceci continues to occupy a bottom-four role.

The helper was Ceci's first point in four outings since he rested in the Oilers' penultimate regular-season game. The defenseman had 25 points, 97 shots on net, 91 hits and 106 blocked shots over 79 regular-season outings while filling a top-four role this season, one he's continued in for the playoffs.
