The 31-year-old Rooney has two goals in 13 games this season in a fourth-line role. He has played 273 NHL games for the Devils, Rangers and Flames over nine seasons. He has no fantasy merit, but he's living his dream.

Rooney scored an empty-net goal on two shots in Monday's 3-1 win over the Kings. Rooney earned his first point of the season with the empty-netter to help the Flames fend off the Kings at the end of the game. This was the center's first point in eight appearances this season. He missed time with a concussion in October but appears to be the Flames' preferred option as the fourth-line center. In addition to his goal, he has three shots on net, 11 hits, four blocked shots and four PIM.

Rooney (concussion) is expected back in the lineup versus Carolina on Thursday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports. Rooney missed the Flames' previous five games following a concussion suffered in the season opener against Vancouver on Oct. 9. With the veteran forward retaking his spot on the fourth line, Adam Klapka will find himself back in the press box after suiting up in the prior two matchups. For his part, Rooney has never reached the 15-point threshold in his seven full NHL seasons, so fantasy players shouldn't be banking on him for offensive contributions.

Rooney was injured after seeing only 1:03 of ice time Opening Night in Vancouver on Wednesday. The 31-year-old veteran had three goals and an assist in 33 regular-season appearances for the Flames in 2023-24.

Rooney logged just 1:03 of ice time before he was forced out of the clash with the Canucks. The veteran center could still be available to face the Flyers on Saturday, while Matthew Coronato will be on standby to step into Rooney's fourth-line role if needed.
