Oettinger gave up six goals on 28 shots in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Panthers. Oettinger allowed four goals at even strength, one on the power play and one shorthanded in Friday's defeat. After opening the campaign with four consecutive wins, the 6-foot-6 netminder has lost two of his last three outings. Overall, Oettinger has posted a 5-2-0 record, .917 save percentage and 2.44 GAA over seven appearances. Oettinger's next start may not come until Nov. 7 versus Chicago -- Casey DeSmith could be between the pipes Saturday in the second half of a back-to-back against Florida.

Oettinger will get the starting nod against the Panthers in Finland on Friday, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports. Oettinger has put together a strong start to the 2024-25 campaign, posting a 5-1-0 record, 1.84 GAA and one shutout. With the extra time off in order to travel for Friday and Saturday's Global Series versus the Panthers, head coach Pete DeBoer hasn't ruled out the possibility of playing Oettinger in both legs of the back-to-back, though he did say it would depend on Friday's contest.

Oettinger gave up two goals in the third period after Dallas had raced to a 3-0 lead, but the star goaltender stepped up late in the contest to secure his fifth win of the season. One of the most consistent netminders over the last few years and a key piece in the Stars' contending status, Oettinger is enjoying an excellent start to the 2024-25 campaign with a 5-1-0 record, a 1.84 GAA and a .938 save percentage through six appearances.

The defeat ended his four-game winning streak. Oettinger has allowed more than two goals in a game on only two occasions this campaign. Chicago has 20 goals across eight outings this season.

The two teams were scoreless past the halfway mark of the second period, but Oettinger then got beaten twice in 83 seconds by Peyton Krebs and Ryan McLeod, and the Stars never recovered. It's the first loss of the season for Oettinger, and the 25-year-old has a dazzling 1.81 GAA and .941 save percentage to go along with his 4-1-0 record.
