Oettinger gave up two goals on 10 shots in Sunday's season-ending 2-1 loss to the Oilers in Game 6. The Oilers struck twice on the power play in the first period and then bunkered down. That left Oettinger with little to do over the final 40 minutes, but the Stars couldn't make a comeback to give their goalie a chance to be a hero. Oettinger's postseason comes to a close with a 10-9 record, a 2.24 GAA and a .915 save percentage over 19 appearances. He'll head into 2024-25 as the Stars' No. 1 goalie while playing for a new contract.

Oettinger will get the starting nod for Game 6 in Edmonton on Sunday, Tracey Myers of NHL.com reports. Oettinger has allowed seven goals on just 54 shots over his last two starts. The Oilers capitalized on this by winning both games and going up 3-2 in the series. Oettinger owns a .907 save percentage this series after posting a .918 save percentage in the first two series against Vegas and Colorado. He hasn't dropped three straight games since February.

Oettinger stopped 23 of 26 shots in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Oilers in Game 5. Oettinger has taken back-to-back losses for the first time since the first two games of the playoffs, and now the Stars will face elimination in Edmonton on Sunday. The Oilers' power play did most of the damage Friday, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scoring twice in the contest after the Stars had killed off all their penalties in the first four games of the series. Oettinger's role as the starter is not in doubt, so he should be back between the pipes for Game 6.

Oettinger was spotted a 2-0 lead early in the first period, but he couldn't hold back the surge the Oilers generated after that. They got to him twice in both the first and second periods. Oettinger is down to 10-7 with a 2.20 GAA and a .919 save percentage this postseason after allowing three or more goals for the fourth time in the last six contests Wednesday. Despite the recent inconsistent play, the 25-year-old is just about a guarantee to start in Friday's pivotal Game 5 back in Dallas.
