  • Max Sasson C | VAN

Canucks' Max Sasson: Returning to AHL

Sasson is no longer on the Canucks' roster, per the NHL media site, indicating he was sent down to AHL Abbotsford.

The Canucks activated Dakota Joshua (leg) and Noah Juulsen (undisclosed) from injured reserve, and created the two roster spots by demoting Sasson and putting Kiefer Sherwood (undisclosed) on IR. Sasson could be back with the big club later in the campaign. He has six points over 24 NHL contests.

  • Jets' Morgan Barron: Put on injured reserve

Barron was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, per the NHL media site.

Barron logged 12:10 of ice time in Winnipeg's 4-1 win over Montreal on Tuesday, so this move can presumably be retroactive to that date. He has five goals, eight points, 85 hits and 31 blocks in 52 outings in 2024-25. Brad Lambert will likely draw into the lineup due to Barron's absence.

  • Flyers' Sean Couturier: Expected to return Wednesday

Couturier (illness) is expected to suit up for Wednesday's road game against New Jersey, NHL.com reports.

Couturier missed Monday's home game against the Devils due to his illness, but he'll be back in action for Wednesday's rematch following a one-game absence. The 32-year-old has made 12 appearances this month, recording a goal, five assists, six blocked shots, six PIM and five hits while averaging 12:51 of ice time.

  • Nico Sturm C | MIN

Sharks' Nico Sturm: Out through break

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Wednesday that Sturm (lower body) won't be back until after the 4 Nations Face-Off, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Sturm is expected to rejoin the team almost as soon as the Sharks resume playing after the 4 Nations break. The 29-year-old center has already missed four games while on injured reserve and will now be out of action for at least four more. When healthy, Sturm has struggled to produce offensively, recording a mere 11 points across 41 outings.

  • Klim Kostin C | SJ

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Likely out through 4 Nations

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Wednesday that Kostin (lower body) will likely return to game action shortly after the league's break for the 4 Nations Face-Off, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Kostin hasn't suited up since Jan. 10 due to his lower-body injury, and he'll likely require several more weeks before he's cleared to return. The 25-year-old made 26 appearances for the Sharks before sustaining his injury, racking up a goal, three assists, 82 hits and 25 PIM while averaging 10:32 of ice time.

  • Sharks' Mikael Granlund: Dealing with illness

Granlund didn't participate in Wednesday's practice session due to an illness, and his status for Thursday's road game against the Kraken is uncertain, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.

Granlund will travel with the Sharks ahead of Thursday's game in Seattle, but it's unclear whether his illness will prevent him from suiting up. If Granlund is held out against the Kraken, Carl Grundstrom is a candidate to re-enter the lineup.

  • Jack Drury C | COL

Avalanche's Jack Drury: Tallies in Tuesday's loss

Drury scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Islanders.

Drury has scored twice on four shots over three games with the Avalanche. They've had him playing on the third line for now, but he could push Casey Mittelstadt for a second-line spot at some point. Drury is at five goals, 11 points, 64 shots on net, 25 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating over 42 appearances between the Avalanche and the Hurricanes this season, well behind the pace that saw him earn 27 points across 74 regular-season outings last year.

  • Bo Horvat C | NYI

Islanders' Bo Horvat: Scores in win over Avalanche

Horvat scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Avalanche.

Horvat's point streak is up to six games (five goals, three assists). His third-period tally also stood as the game-winner. The 29-year-old center is up to 18 goals (five game-winners), 20 helpers, 143 shots on net, 63 hits and a plus-13 rating through 48 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign. He should continue to thrive in a top-six role.

  • Seth Jarvis C | CAR

Hurricanes' Seth Jarvis: Adds insurance goal

Jarvis scored a goal on two shots, blocked two shots and added two PIM in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Rangers.

There's been no slowing down Jarvis in January, as he has 10 goals and four assists over his last 14 contests. He's gone multiple games without a goal just once at the start of the month and has three multi-goal games. For the season, the 22-year-old has 19 tallies, 20 helpers, 117 shots on net, 67 hits and a minus-1 rating over 44 appearances. The Hurricanes' offense runs three lines deep, and Jarvis has found success with multiple combinations of linemates in 2024-25.

  • Blackhawks' Philipp Kurashev: Picks up helper

Kurashev notched an assist in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Lightning.

Kurashev has three points over his last four games while going plus-3 in that span. The 25-year-old is still stuck in a bottom-six role, so his chances are slim to keep up the pace on offense. The winger has four goals, four helpers, 40 shots on net and a minus-25 rating over 35 appearances. He'll likely still have to compete with players like Colton Dach, Landon Slaggert and Lukas Reichel to stay out of the press box.
