NHL Player News

  • Sharks' Mikael Granlund: Scores twice vs. Nashville

Granlund scored two goals, including one on the power play, and took three shots in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Predators.

Granlund went three games without finding the back of the net but made his presence felt in this goal fest with his second two-goal effort of the campaign. He remains one of the most productive players on the Sharks' roster and has notched 14 goals, and 40 total points, across 48 contests.

  • Bruins' Trent Frederic: Unavailable Wednesday

Frederic (illness) will miss Wednesday's tilt against New Jersey, per Mike Morreale of NHL.com.

It will be Frederic's second straight game on the shelf. He has seven goals, 14 points, 42 PIM, 132 hits and 25 blocks in 47 outings in 2024-25. Max Jones might draw into the lineup Wednesday due in part to Frederic's continued absence.

  • Blackhawks' Jason Dickinson: Dealing with illness

Dickinson missed Wednesday's practice due to an illness, according to Charlie Roumeliotis of WGN Radio.

Chicago doesn't play until Friday, so it's possible that Dickinson will be fine by then. He has seven goals, 14 points, 78 hits and 40 blocks in 47 appearances in 2024-25. The status of Craig Smith (back) and Patrick Maroon (back) is uncertain, but if Smith, Maroon and Dickinson are all unavailable Friday, then Chicago will likely recall a player from the minors because the team would otherwise have just 11 healthy forwards on the roster.

  • Ivan Ivan C | COL

Avalanche's Ivan Ivan: Up from minors

Ivan was recalled from AHL Colorado on Wednesday.

Ivan has five goals and eight points in 39 appearances with the Avalanche in 2024-25. He also has a goal and an assist in two outings with AHL Colorado. The Avalanche have just 12 healthy forwards on their roster after recalling Ivan and Jere Innala, so both will probably be in the lineup for Wednesday's tilt against Winnipeg.

  • Klim Kostin C | SJ

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Still not day-to-day

Kostin (lower body) is working his way back to full fitness but is still not in the day-to-day category. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky told reporters Tuesday, "He's progressing. He's skating again," Warsofsky said. "He's a little ways away here, not really in a day-to-day category," per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.

Kostin has already missed six games due to his lower-body injury and seems no closer to getting back onto the ice at this point. Even when healthy, the forward has struggled to produce, going pointless over his last 11 outings while contributing just eight shots.

  • Lightning's Jake Guentzel: Scores goal in loss

Guentzel scored a goal on five shots in a 3-2 defeat to the Canadiens on Tuesday.

Guentzel has scored in three of his last four games while also chipping in a pair of helpers over that stretch. While Tuesday's goal was at even strength, 11 of the winger's 24 tallies this year have come with the man advantage, matching his career-best mark for power-play goals in a season already.

  • Owen Beck C | MON

Canadiens' Owen Beck: Sent to AHL

Beck was loaned to AHL Laval on Wednesday.

Beck was called up by the Canadiens on Sunday, and he was held without a point with two hits while averaging 7:35 of ice time over two appearances with the NHL club. He'll head back to the minors a few days later, and he should have more opportunities to develop in the AHL.

  • Alex Newhook C | MON

Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Bends twine versus Lightning

Newhook scored a goal on one shot in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay.

Newhook has been finding his offensive stride of late, recording four points in his last five outings while averaging 15:58 of ice time. Despite averaging 1:47 of ice time with the man advantage this season, the 23-year-old has only managed one power-play point this year. Newhook has reached the 30-point threshold in each of his four NHL campaigns but could be in danger of missing that threshold in 2024-25.

  • Jake Evans C | MON

Canadiens' Jake Evans: Scores game-winning goal

Evans scored the game-winning goal on two shots in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Tampa Bay.

With his tally, Evans was able to bring his 10-game goal drought to a close. Prior to his slump, the 28-year-old forward had scored in five straight games, so perhaps fantasy managers can expect more to come with Evans back on track. Still, the Toronto native remains stuck in a bottom-six role without power-play opportunities, which may limit his fantasy upside.

  • Ryan Strome C | CGY

Ducks' Ryan Strome: Slings helper in loss

Strome logged a power-play assist in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Panthers.

Strome has two helpers over his last three contests. He's produced seven assists and 14 shots on net over 11 games in January, but he hasn't scored this month. The 31-year-old center is up to 26 points (five on the power play) with 81 shots on net and a minus-5 rating through 47 outings overall. Strome continues to log top-line minutes for the Ducks, but he's more of a depth forward for fantasy purposes.
