Evgeni Malkin C | PIT
Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Draws assist in return
Malkin notched an assist and two hits in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
Malkin missed four games due to an upper-body injury. He resumed his usual second-line role and saw 17:37 of ice time in his return, and he was able to help out on a Bryan Rust tally in the second period. Malkin has 33 points, 72 shots on net, 30 blocked shots, 18 PIM and a minus-18 rating through 42 appearances this season. He's tracking toward a 60-point campaign if he can remain healthy and consistent the rest of the way.

Philip Tomasino C | PHI
Penguins' Philip Tomasino: Puts away goal
Tomasino scored a goal on two shots in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
Tomasino was able to tickle the twine in his second game back after missing four contests due to a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old forward has been on the third line and second power-play unit since his return. He's at nine points, 52 shots on net, 25 hits and a minus-3 rating over 29 appearances between the Penguins and the Predators this season, though his offense has been much better with Pittsburgh.

Marc Gatcomb C | NYI
Islanders' Marc Gatcomb: Heads to minors
Gatcomb was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.
Gatcomb has nine goals and 17 points in 34 appearances with Bridgeport in 2024-25. He made his NHL debut Tuesday against Ottawa, recording four hits and one block in 7:27 of ice time.

Shane Wright C | SEA
Kraken's Shane Wright: Registers helper
Wright notched an assist and three hits in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Penguins.
Wright has racked up a goal and four assists over seven contests in January. The 21-year-old has not had a point drought longer than two games since he was scratched for three contests in a row in mid-November. That increased consistency has seen him rack up 21 points, 41 shots on net, 34 hits, 29 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating across 42 appearances in 2024-25.

Chandler Stephenson C | SEA
Kraken's Chandler Stephenson: Nets shortie in Tuesday's win
Stephenson scored a shorthanded goal in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Penguins.
Stephenson has flipped a switch on offense in January, racking up three goals and four assists over seven games this month. The 30-year-old center is up to six tallies, 30 points (13 on the power play), 42 shots on net, 25 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 44 appearances. Stephenson adds little physicality and is more of a playmaker than a goalscorer, so his fantasy value varies depending on the format.

Tyler Motte C | DET
Red Wings' Tyler Motte: Missing start of road trip
Motte (upper body) won't travel with the Red Wings for the start of their upcoming four-game road trip, which begins Thursday versus the Panthers, per Carley Johnston of the Red Wings' official site on Wednesday.
Motte might still link up with the Red Wings before the end of the trip. He has two goals, four points, 35 hits and 20 blocks in 28 appearances in 2024-25. Motte is typically in the mix for a bottom-six spot when he's healthy.

John Tavares C | TOR
Maple Leafs' John Tavares: Being evaluated for injury
Tavares (undisclosed) exited Wednesday's practice early and is being evaluated, per David Alter of The Hockey News.
Tavares is one of Toronto's top forwards with 20 goals and 42 points in 44 appearances in 2024-25. If he can't play Thursday versus New Jersey, then Max Domi might shift to the second line alongside Max Pacioretty and William Nylander. Tavares' absence might also result in Morgan Rielly serving on the top power-play unit as opposed to his projected position on the second group.

Martin Pospisil C | CGY
Flames' Martin Pospisil: Banks apple in defeat
Pospisil notched an assist and doled out six hits in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Blues.
Pospisil set up Kevin Bahl's game-tying goal at 6:06 of the third period. This was Pospisil's first point through six games in January. He avoided supplemental discipline after being ejected Monday for a dangerous hit on Chicago's Taylor Hall. Pospisil makes his name in the physicality department, but he's chipped in two goals, 11 helpers and a plus-2 rating through 43 outings in 2024-25.

Brayden Schenn C | NYI
Blues' Brayden Schenn: Nabs assist in victory
Schenn produced an even-strength assist in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Calgary.
Schenn registered the primary helper on Colton Parayko's marker just under a minute into the game. Schenn has been productive through six games in January, getting onto the scoresheet four times while accounting for two goals, three helpers and a plus-3 rating in that span. St. Louis' captain is at eight goals and 25 points through 45 appearances in 2024-25. Schenn's current 9.2 shooting percentage is the worst mark of his career, excluding his first two seasons with the Kings.
