Predators' Jonathan Marchessault: Not playing Thursday
Marchessault (lower body) won't play in Thursday's game versus the Islanders, Nick Kieser of Lower Broad Hockey reports.
Marchessault will miss his 10th straight game after returning to Nashville ahead of the team when his recovery stalled out during the recently completed seven-game road trip. It's unclear when Marchessault will be able to return. The Predators have a back-to-back up next with games against the Blackhawks on Saturday and the Capitals on Sunday.

Hurricanes' Noah Philp: Won't play Thursday
Philp (concussion) will miss Thursday's game against Anaheim, per Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News.
Philp left Tuesday's 6-3 win over Dallas because of the injury. He has two goals and three points in 17 appearances. Mark Jankowski is projected to draw back into the lineup due to Philp's absence.

Senators' Lars Eller: Off injured reserve
Eller (foot) was activated off injured reserve Thursday, per Murray Pam of Hockey Hot Stove.
Linus Ullmark (personal) was shifted to the non-roster list in a corresponding move. Eller has two goals and six points in 28 appearances with Ottawa in 2025-26. Stephen Halliday might be a healthy scratch Thursday in Colorado to accommodate Eller's return.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Activated off IR
Malkin (upper body) was taken off injured reserve ahead of Thursday's clash with New Jersey, per the NHL media site.
Malkin will make his return to the lineup following a 15-game stint on the shelf due to his upper-body injury. Prior to his absence, the veteran forward was rolling offensively, racking up five goals and four assists, including four power-play points. WIth Malkin back in the lineup, the Russian will shift to the wing to allow youngster Ben Kindel to center the second line.

Rangers' J.T. Miller: Activated from injured reserve
Miller (upper body) was activated from injured reserve Thursday, per the NHL media site.
Miller missed seven games with the injury. The 32-year-old center has not had a good offensive season, tallying 10 goals and 22 points in 35 games, his worst season since 2015-16 when he managed 22 goals and 21 assists in 82 games as a 22-year-old with the Rangers. He should play alongside Vincent Trocheck and Alexis Lafreniere on Thursday when the Rangers host Buffalo.

Kings' Cole Guttman: Called up Thursday
Guttman was recalled from AHL Ontario on Thursday.
Guttman hasn't played in an NHL game since the 2023-24 campaign, when he saw action in 27 outings with the Blackhawks. In those appearances, the California native notched four goals and four assists, including three power-play points. With his promotion to the NHL roster, Guttman could be in the lineup versus Winnipeg on Friday, as he gives the team a full complement of 12 healthy forwards.

Kraken's Oscar Fisker Molgaard: Recalled from AHL
Fisker Molgaard was summoned from AHL Coachella Valley on Thursday.
Fisker Molgaard played two games earlier in the season with the Kraken, garnering one assist. He had six goals and 12 assists in 30 AHL games before being recalled. The Kraken are down to 12 healthy forwards, as Eeli Tolvanen missed Tuesday's game versus Boston with an illness.

Canadiens' Oliver Kapanen: Finds twine Wednesday
Kapanen scored a goal on three shots in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Flames.
Kapanen has opened January with three goals in four games. The 22-year-old rookie is up to 14 tallies, nine assists, 77 shots on net, 41 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating over 43 appearances. He's been able to hold onto a second-line role for most of the campaign, emerging as an all-situations center with fantasy upside due to his youth.
