NHL Player News

  • Ducks' Ryan Poehling: Unavailable Thursday

Poehling (upper body) will miss Thursday's game in Detroit, per Derek Lee of The Hockey News.

Poehling has a goal and six points in 16 appearances with Anaheim in 2025-26. Mikael Granlund (lower body) and Ryan Strome (upper body) are set to rejoin the lineup Thursday after missing time due to their respective injuries, so Poehling's exit is corresponding with those returns. In addition to Poehling's absence, Ross Johnston might be a healthy scratch versus the Red Wings after playing in Anaheim's past 11 games.

  • Zach Hyman C | EDM

Oilers' Zach Hyman: Expected to play Saturday

Hyman (wrist) is set to make his season debut Saturday in Carolina, Tony Brar of Oilers TV reports Thursday.

Hyman will miss Edmonton's first 19 games of the season, including Thursday's tilt against Columbus. His return should be a boost to the Oilers' offense, and he's likely to see time on the top line alongside Connor McDavid. Matthew Savoie will probably move out of the top six as a result of Hyman's return.

  • John Beecher C | CGY

Bruins' John Beecher: Remains out Thursday

Beecher (upper body) will miss Thursday's clash against Ottawa.

It will be Beecher's third straight game on the shelf. However, he did participate in Thursday's morning skate, so perhaps he's getting close to returning. Beecher's next opportunity to draw back into the lineup is Saturday in Montreal.

  • Golden Knights' William Karlsson: Is week-to-week

Karlsson (lower body) is week-to-week, the team announced Thursday.

Karlsson has four goals and seven points in 14 appearances this season. Braeden Bowman was summoned from AHL Henderson on Wednesday and might play regularly during Karlsson's absence.

  • Gustav Nyquist RW | WPG

Jets' Gustav Nyquist: Activated from injured reserve

Nyqvist (undisclosed) was activated from injured reserve Thursday, per the NHL media site.

Nyqvist missed five games with the injury. The 36-year-old Swede has five assists in 11 games this season, including two in his last two games. He is expected to see bottom-six minutes upon his return.

  • David Kampf C | WAS

David Kampf: Placed on unconditional waivers

Kampf was put on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract Thursday.

Kampf was suspended by the Maple Leafs after he left AHL Toronto last week. The Maple Leafs were unable to trade away his rights and the two sides mutually agreed to release Kampf. The 30-year-old will be free to sign with anyone, should he pass through waivers.

  • Lightning's Curtis Douglas: Collects first helper Wednesday

Douglas logged an assist, three hits and three blocked shots in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Rangers.

Douglas had been trending out of the Lightning's lineup, sitting out the previous three games, but the team's injury troubles have opened the door for him to reclaim a fourth-line spot. The helper was his first in 10 appearances at the NHL level. The 25-year-old has added 12 hits, 12 PIM, five shots on net, five blocked shots and a plus-1 rating despite averaging just 5:31 of ice time.

  • Ducks' Mikael Granlund: Returning versus Wings

Granlund (lower body) will be in action against Detroit on Thursday, per NHL.com.

Granlund will return to the lineup following an eight-game stint on injured reserve due to his lower-body injury. With the Sharks last season, the 33-year-old center notched 15 goals and 30 helpers in 52 contests, including 15 power-play points. In addition to Granlund, the Ducks will also get back Ryan Strome, with the pair linking up together on the fourth line.

  • Jack Finley C | STL

Lightning's Jack Finley: Nabs assist in loss

Finley posted an assist and three hits in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Rangers.

Finley hasn't been a regular in the lineup this season, but he'll get a run of playing time while the Lightning battle multiple injuries to forwards. The helper was his first point of the campaign. He's added three shots on net, four PIM and eight hits over five appearances so far.

  • Lightning's Zemgus Girgensons: Lights lamp Wednesday

Girgensons scored a goal on two shots, added two hits and blocked two shots in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Rangers.

Due to the Lightning's recent stretch of injuries, Girgensons was in a second-line role for this contest. The 31-year-old logged 15:41 of ice time, and he's been above the 15-minute mark in four of his last five games. He's produced three goals, one helper, nine shots on net, 24 hits, 10 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating through nine appearances this season. He's well on his way to bouncing back from last year's six-point effort over 82 regular-season outings, but he hasn't exceeded 20 points since 2014-15, so there's minimal upside here.
