  • Sam Morton C | CGY

Flames' Sam Morton: Waived for AHL demotion

Morton was moved to waivers Tuesday to be sent to AHL Calgary.

Morton generated 20 goals and 45 points in 70 regular-season games with AHL Calgary in 2024-25. He also scored a goal against the Kings on April 17 in his NHL debut. If he clears, the 26-year-old forward will probably spend most of the 2025-26 campaign in the minors.

  • Clark Bishop C | CGY

Flames' Clark Bishop: Goes on waivers

Bishop was placed on waivers Tuesday to assign him to AHL Calgary.

Bishop notched 19 goals and 38 points in 66 regular-season games for AHL Calgary in 2024-25. He will probably spend most, if not all, of the upcoming campaign in the minors.

  • Islanders' Matthew Highmore: Lands on waivers

Highmore was placed on waivers by the Islanders on Tuesday, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.

Highmore produced two goals and four helpers over 41 regular-season appearances with the Senators last year, and he also notched 10 points in 23 games with AHL Belleville. Highmore will report to AHL Bridgeport if another team does not claim him on the waiver wire.

  • J.T. Miller C | NYR

    Rangers' J.T. Miller: Labeled day-to-day

Miller (lower body) was deemed day-to-day Tuesday, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.

Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic reported Monday that it appears Miller avoided a serious lower-body injury after being hurt during that morning's practice. However, it's unclear if the veteran center will be held out for the remainder of the preseason. The Rangers will likely be extremely cautious with their new captain ahead of their regular-season opener against the Penguins on Oct. 7, but more information on Miller's status should be available in the near future.

  • Nico Sturm C | MIN

    Wild's Nico Sturm: Practices Tuesday

Sturm (back) participated in Tuesday's practice, but he will be kept off the ice for a few days to rest, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports

Sturm hasn't suffered a setback in his recovery, but the Wild will be cautious with him before Opening Night. As a result, he won't play in Tuesday's exhibition matchup against Winnipeg and will likely miss Friday's preseason finale versus Chicago. Still, it remains unclear if he will play in St. Louis on Oct. 9 when the regular season begins.

  • Rangers' Brendan Brisson: Lands on waivers Tuesday

Brisson was placed on waivers by the Rangers on Tuesday, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic reports.

Brisson is expected to clear waivers, at which point he'll be reassigned to AHL Hartford. The 23-year-old was facing an uphill battle to make the Opening Night roster, but he should be in the mix for a call-up or two during the season. Still, without a regular NHL role, Brisson won't offer much in the way of fantasy value this season.

  • Jiri Kulich C | BUF

Sabres' Jiri Kulich: Practices, set to return

Kulich (undisclosed) participated in Tuesday's practice and should play in Wednesday's preseason game versus Pittsburgh, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports.

Kulich had been day-to-day since Thursday after tweaking a muscle. He produced 15 goals, 24 points and 134 shots on net across 62 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. Kulich will probably occupy a middle-six role with the Sabres this campaign.

  • Noah Ostlund C | BUF

    Sabres' Noah Ostlund: Labeled week-to-week

Head coach Lindy ruff relayed Tuesday that Ostlund (undisclosed) is week-to-week, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.

Ruff said that Ostlund is "getting therapy for something," but the 21-year-old forward is skating. That rules out the 2022 first-round selection, No. 16 overall, for the remainder of the preseason, and he'll likely begin the 2025-26 season with AHL Rochester once he's healthy. Ostlund provided 19 goals, 36 points and a plus-20 rating over 45 regular-season appearances with the Americans in 2024-25.

  • Lightning's Dominic James: Not taking contact Tuesday

James (undisclosed) wore a non-contact jersey at morning skate ahead of Tuesday's preseason meeting with the Panthers, per Benjamin Pierce of the Lightning's official site.

It's not clear what James is dealing with, but he seemingly will not be available for Tuesday's tune-up game. The Michigan native signed his entry-level contract earlier this month, and he'll more than likely begin his professional career with AHL Syracuse in 2025-26.

  • Nic Dowd C | LV

Capitals' Nic Dowd: Back with team

Dowd (personal) skated with the non-game group during Tuesday's practice, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.

Dowd skated on his own Monday after being absent from training camp since last Tuesday due to a personal matter. The 35-year-old forward accounted for 14 goals, 27 points, 82 blocked shots and 128 hits across 82 regular-season games in 2024-25.
