NHL Player News

  • Noah Gregor C | FLA

    Sharks' Noah Gregor: Available Thursday

Gregor (not injury related) will enter the lineup versus Chicago on Thursday, per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.

Gregor apparently has had his immigration paperwork completed and is now eligible to play in the United States after his trade from Ottawa at the deadline. Gregor had four goals and two assists in 40 games with Ottawa this season. He will replace Carl Grundstrom on the fourth line, alongside Patrick Giles and Barclay Goodrow.

  • Golden Knights' Brett Howden: Returning against Jackets

Howden (personal) will be in the lineup versus Columbus on Thursday, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.

Howden missed just one game while attending to a personal matter but will be back in action Thursday. The 26-year-old forward is currently in the midst of an offensive upswing, having recorded one goal and seven helpers in his last eight contests. It's been a career year for Howden, having set new personal bests in goals (17) and points (30).

  • Connor Zary C | CGY

Flames' Connor Zary: Headed for suspension

Zary will have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety on Thursday for elbowing.

At this point, Zary should be expected to miss at least one game due to suspension, though it could certainly be longer. With the winger set to at least be unavailable versus the Avalanche on Friday, Adam Klapka will likely jump into the lineup against Colorado in what would be just his 14th NHL game of the season.

  • Josh Dunne C | BUF

Sabres' Josh Dunne: Back in AHL

Dunne was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Thursday.

The 26-year-old has played in one game at the NHL level this season, picking up a five-minute major for fighting, four hits and a shot on goal in 7:16 of action versus Florida on March 8. Dunne had eight goals, 16 assists and 44 PIM across 54 contests with Rochester before his recall.

  • Josh Norris C | BUF

Sabres' Josh Norris: Gets goal in loss

Norris scored a goal and added 10 PIM in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Red Wings.

Norris cut the Red Wings' lead to 3-2 late in the first period with his first goal as a Sabre. He has two points over three outings with his new team after a deadline deal sent him to Buffalo from Ottawa. For the season, he's at 21 goals, 14 assists, 96 shots on net, 135 hits, 47 blocked shots, 44 PIM and a minus-6 rating over 56 appearances. Norris has lined up as the first-line center, shifting Tage Thompson over to the wing again.

  • Nick Suzuki C | MON

Canadiens' Nick Suzuki: Provides two more helpers

Suzuki notched two assists and two hits in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Suzuki set up Patrik Laine's power-play goal to get the Canadiens on the board in the second period, and he also helped out on a Juraj Slafkovsky tally in the third. Over his last nine games, Suzuki has five goals and 12 assists, with six of those contests being multi-point efforts for the captain. He's at 20 goals, 49 assists, 23 power-play points, 133 shots on net, 56 blocked shots, 53 hits and a plus-11 rating over 65 appearances. He needs just eight more points to match his career-high 77 from last year, and another five on top of that would guarantee Suzuki his first point-per-game campaign.

  • Alex Newhook C | MON

    Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Tickles twine

Newhook scored a goal on four shots in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Newhook snapped a four-game point drought with the tally. The 24-year-old center continues to see second-line action, though his offense has been inconsistent. Prior to his most recent dry spell, he had a run of eight points over nine outings for one of his best stretches of 2024-25. He's at 13 goals, 22 points, 91 shots on net, 73 hits and a minus-16 rating through 65 appearances. Newhook is very much at risk of missing the 30-point mark for the first time in a full NHL campaign.

  • Kraken's Chandler Stephenson: Generates pair of helpers

Stephenson logged two assists in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Canadiens.

Stephenson helped out on an Eeli Tolvanen goal in the second period, and he also won a faceoff that sprung Brandon Montour on a breakaway for the fastest goal from the start of overtime in NHL history. This was Stephenson's first multi-point effort since Jan. 30 against the Sharks. The center has looked sharp lately with a goal and four helpers across six games in March. He's up to 11 goals, 34 assists, 63 shots on net, 40 blocked shots, 30 hits and a minus-10 rating through 65 outings this season.

  • Kraken's Matty Beniers: Nets equalizer on power play

Beniers scored a power-play goal on two shots in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Canadiens.

Beniers' offense has come alive in March -- he has three goals and an assist over six games this month, surpassing the three points he put up over seven outings in February. He had a clutch tally Wednesday, tying the game with 2:12 left in the third period, which ultimately allowed Brandon Montour to score the fastest goal from the start of overtime in NHL history just a few minutes later. Beniers is up to 16 goals, 36 points, 117 shots on net, 56 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over 66 appearances. He should be able to get back to the 40-point mark after missing it last season, but Beniers has yet to replicate the success he found as a rookie (57 points in 80 games) in 2022-23.

  • Leo Carlsson C | ANA

Ducks' Leo Carlsson: Reaches 30-point mark

Carlsson notched an assist, two shots on goal, two blocked shots and two PIM in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Utah.

Carlsson picked up an assist in his third straight game, though he has come up empty on his last 10 shots on goal. The 20-year-old is still finding ways to contribute on offense even if his own chances aren't going in. He reached the 30-point mark for the first time with this helper, doing so in 59 appearances this season, but he's been a point-per-game player since the start of February with five goals and nine helpers over his last 14 outings. Carlsson is clearly talented, and with the Ducks' offense looking decent lately, he's been able to find more success.
