Stars' Mikael Granlund: Scores OT winner at 4 Nations
Granlund scored the game-winner in Saturday's 4-3 overtime victory over Team Sweden at the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal.
Granlund, Aleksander Barkov and Niko Mikkola broke in on a 3-on-1, and Granlund got selfish at the right time, going five-hole on Linus Ullmark after looking pass all the way. The victory moved Finland into a tie with Canada for second in the tournament ahead of Canada's contest versus the United States on Saturday. Granlund was named the Player of the Game for his effort.

Gavin Brindley C | COL
Blue Jackets' Gavin Brindley: Struggling in AHL
Brindley has only one goal in his last nine games with AHL Cleveland.
Brindley starred at the University of Michigan, tallying 25 goals and adding 28 assists in 40 games in 2023-24, before inking a three-year entry-level contract. Brindley played one game at the NHL level after signing last season, logging 12:20 in the final game of the regular season, but failed to hit the scoresheet. Brindley has spent the 2024-25 campaign with AHL Cleveland, scoring five times while adding nine helpers in 28 games after missing the start of the year with a broken finger suffered during a preseason game against St. Louis.

Jack Hughes C | NJ
Devils' Jack Hughes: Gets an assist in USA win
Hughes put up an assist in Thursday's 6-1 win by Team USA over Finland in Montreal.
He got a secondary assist on Jake Guentzel's third-period goal that pushed the score to 4-1. Hughes didn't stand out Thursday, but he didn't need to with the efforts of Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk. Hughes is a top-10 NHL scorer. He'll get another opportunity to put up points Saturday against Team Canada.

Auston Matthews C | TOR
Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Gets assist in USA win
Matthews put up an assist Thursday in Team USA's 6-1 victory over Finland at the 4 Nations Face-off in Montreal.
He played a quiet, effective game while his teammates, namely Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk, exploded offensively. Matthews rang the crossbar early that Juuse Saros saw on his blade and then didn't even flinch as the puck whistled by his ear. Matthews was jeered by the Montreal crowd, in part because of his uniform and part because of his NHL one. He'll deliver in this tournament, and his next chance comes Saturday against Team Canada.

Jake Guentzel C | TB
Lightning's Jake Guentzel: Gets goal in international debut
Guentzel scored a goal and added an assist Thursday in a 6-1 USA win over Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal.
Guentzel's goal came in the third, 11 seconds after Matthew Tkachuk had pushed the USA up 3-1 on the power play. He scored on the rush from the left circle off a pass from Auston Matthews. The two goals in 11 seconds tied an NHL international tourney record (1991 Canada Cup) for the fastest consecutive goals scored by the same team. Guentzel, 30, is the only player on Team USA with no international experience, but his speed, pace and sniping are excellent complements to a strong USA squad.

Jack Eichel C | LV
Golden Knights' Jack Eichel: Really clicks with Tkachuks for USA
Eichel had two assists in a 6-1 USA win over Finland on Thursday at the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal.
He, Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk were united mid-game, and Eichel was instrumental in the brothers' success Thursday. He's fast, smart and defensively sound, and he likes to carry the puck. That means the Tkachuks simply went to where they needed to be, and Eichel found them time and time again. This trio will be a critical success factor for Team USA in this tourney, and they will next show off their skills Saturday against Canada.

Anton Wahlberg C | BUF
Sabres' Anton Wahlberg: Showing potential in minors
Wahlberg registered two assists Tuesday to extend his AHL scoring streak to three games.
Wahlberg has a goal and five points over that three-game stretch. That brings him up to eight goals and 18 points in 36 appearances with Rochester this campaign after recording a goal and four points in nine AHL regular-season outings in 2023-24. The 19-year-old is a big presence at 6-foot-3 and has the potential to eventually become a solid two-way center for the Sabres, perhaps primarily on the team's third line. However, it might be a couple of years before he reaches that level.

Matthew Savoie C | EDM
Oilers' Matthew Savoie: Knocking on the door
Savoie has been lighting it up at the AHL level of late with 22 points in his last 20 games, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Savoie was acquired from Buffalo on July 5 for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio. Savoie was selected ninth overall in 2022 by the Sabres, who gave up quickly on the prospect. In his rookie season, Savoie has 12 goals and 22 assists in 43 AHL games in 2024-25.

Joel Eriksson Ek C | MIN
Wild's Joel Eriksson Ek: Clutch goal at 4 Nations Face Off
Eriksson Ek scored a goal Thursday in a 4-3 overtime loss to Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Eriksson Ek roofed the puck into the net after settled a cross-crease pass from Jesper Bratt around the midpoint of the third period. It tied the game and forced overtime. He came into the contest on a four-game point drought. Eriksson Ek's production this year has been held back by injury -- he has just nine goals and 14 assists in 41 games, a far cry from his two 60-plus point campaigns in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
