NHL Player News

  • Senators' Nikolas Matinpalo: Not available Saturday

Matinpalo (undisclosed) has been ruled out of Saturday's tilt in Toronto, Julian McKenzie of The Athletic reports.

The 27-year-old defenseman probably sustained the injury during the 2026 Winter Olympics because he will miss his second straight NHL game following the break. Matinpalo has four assists, 27 hits and 33 blocked shots in 30 games with the Senators this season. It's unclear at this time if he will be available for Tuesday's game against Edmonton.

  • Penguins' Samuel Girard: Available to play

Girard (lower body) will be good to go for Saturday's game against the Rangers, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports.

Girard sat out Friday's practice, but he will be available for Saturday's matinee matchup against the Rangers. After being acquired in a trade with Colorado on Tuesday, he had one shot on goal and four blocked shots in 17:53 of ice time against New Jersey on Thursday.

  • Jets' Dylan Samberg: Helpers in consecutive contests

Samberg notched an assist and two shots on goal in Friday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Ducks.

Samberg has a helper in each of the last two games and three assists over his last six outings. For the season, the 27-year-old is at 11 assists, 55 shots on net, 67 blocked shots, 37 hits and a minus-1 rating over 42 appearances. He's set to handle a larger role while the Jets are missing numerous regulars on the blue line due to injuries.

  • Jets' Logan Stanley: Pockets pair of assists

Stanley recorded two assists, two shots on goal and two PIM in Friday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Ducks.

Stanley is getting top-pairing minutes and power-play time in the absence of Josh Morrissey (upper body) and Neal Pionk (undisclosed). The 27-year-old Stanley has enjoyed a career year with 20 points in 57 appearances, and his first helper Friday was the first power-play point of his career. He's added 94 hits, 68 blocked shots, 99 PIM, 66 shots on net and a minus-4 rating. Stanley's a pending unrestricted free agent this summer, so the Jets may offload him to a contender looking to bulk up its blue line prior to next Friday's trade deadline.

  • Jets' Elias Salomonsson: Scores for first NHL goal, point

Salomonsson scored a goal on four shots and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Ducks.

Injuries to multiple defensemen have left the Jets thin on the blue line. That will allow Salomonsson to get some on-the-job training as the Jets navigate the last quarter or so of the campaign. His tally at 1:27 of the third period put the Jets ahead 3-1, but it wasn't enough. Through 15 NHL contests, he's posted 21 shots on net, 16 hits, 14 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating in a bottom-four role.

  • Jacob Trouba D | ANA

Ducks' Jacob Trouba: Finds twine to start comeback

Trouba scored a goal on three shots, added two hits and blocked two shots in Friday's 5-4 overtime win over the Jets.

Trouba has two goals and three assists over four outings in February. He got the Ducks on the board in the last minute of the second period, setting the stage for their comeback rally in the third. The 32-year-old defenseman is up to 10 goals, 27 points, 117 shots on net, 105 hits, 112 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over 57 appearances. This is just the third time in his 13-year career that he's reached double digits in goals.

  • Ducks' Pavel Mintyukov: One of each Friday

Mintyukov scored a goal, dished an assist and added two PIM in Friday's 5-4 overtime win over the Jets.

Mintyukov tied the game at 3-3 midway through the third period and helped out on a Ryan Poehling goal later in the frame. Prior to Friday, Mintyukov had been limited to one assist over his last six games. He's listed on the third pairing currently, but he's seen more than 20 minutes of ice time in four of his last five contests. The blueliner has seven goals, 17 points, 52 shots on net, 77 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating across 53 appearances.

  • Mammoth's Mikhail Sergachev: Collects pair of helpers

Sergachev notched two assists, five shots on goal, two hits and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 5-2 win over the Wild.

This was his first multi-point effort since Jan. 24, when he had three helpers versus the Predators. Sergachev's first assist was on Logan Cooley's shorthanded tally, and he also set up a Barrett Hayton power-play marker in the third period. Sergachev is up to 41 points (nine goals, 32 helpers), including 17 on the power play and two while shorthanded. He's added 122 shots on net, 97 blocked shots, 28 hits and a plus-3 rating over 59 appearances in a top-pairing role.

  • Canadiens' Bryce Pickford: One of each Friday

Pickford scored a goal and added an assist in WHL Medicine Hat's 3-2 win over Calgary on Friday.

Pickford has earned seven points over four games since he returned from a month-long absence. The 19-year-old defenseman is up to 36 goals and 69 points through 46 appearances this season. The Montreal prospect will still need to translate this production to higher levels, but his stock has risen significantly with his high-scoring totals this year.

  • Canadiens' David Reinbacher: Three assists in AHL win

Reinbacher notched three assists in AHL Laval's 9-3 win over Rochester on Friday.

Reinbacher went two months between multi-point efforts. He has five assists over his last nine contests. The 2023 first-round pick has a bright future, but he has yet to display a consistent scoring touch. He has 19 points and a plus-13 rating over 42 appearances in his first full AHL campaign after a knee injury cost him most of 2024-25.
