  • Joel Nystrom D | CAR

Hurricanes' Joel Nystrom: Recalled by Carolina

Nystrom was recalled from AHL Chicago on Thursday.

Nystrom hasn't yet made his NHL debut, but he'll join the Hurricanes to provide additional defensive depth while Jaccob Slavin (lower body) and Shayne Gostisbehere (lower body) are sidelined. Over three AHL appearances this year, Nystrom has recorded an assist and a plus-2 rating.

  • Islanders' Marshall Warren: Called up from AHL

Warren was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Thursday.

Warren is off to a hot start in the AHL, as the defenseman has two goals and five points in his first four games with Bridgeport. He will replace Alexander Romanov (upper body) on the roster after Romanov was placed on injured reserve earlier in the day. Warren could make his NHL debut as early as Thursday versus Detroit.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Questionable for Friday

Rielly is dealing with an undisclosed injury and is questionable to face the Sabres on Friday, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

Rielly logged over 24 minutes of ice time versus the Devils on Tuesday, so it's not immediately clear when he was injured. To open the season, the 31-year-old defenseman has registered two goals and four assists but has yet to record a point with the man advantage despite averaging 2:56 of power-play ice time.

  • Devils' Jonas Siegenthaler: Posts helper in win

Siegenthaler recorded an assist and two blocked shots in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Wild.

The helper was Siegenthaler's first point in seven games this season. He's occupied a top-four role while serving as a shutdown defenseman, which is his typical usage. The 28-year-old has added 12 blocks, four hits, four shots on goal, four PIM and an even plus-minus rating this season. He's fallen short of 60 games played and 10 points in each of the last two regular seasons, so there's not much fantasy upside in his playing style.

  • Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Placed on injured reserve

Slavin (lower body) was placed on injured reserve by the Hurricanes on Thursday, per the NHL media site.

Slavin sustained a lower-body injury during Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers, and head coach Rod Brind'Amour said that the defenseman would be "out for a while." As a result, it isn't particularly surprising to see Slavin land on injured reserve, officially sidelining him for multiple games. Mike Reilly will likely continue to see playing time in Slavin's absence.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Won't play Friday

Sandin (upper body) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Blue Jackets, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network reports.

Sandin is considered day-to-day due to his upper-body injury, and while he isn't expected to have a lengthy absence, he won't travel with the Capitals ahead of Friday's matchup in Columbus. Whether he'll be available for Saturday's home game against the Senators remains to be seen.

  • Sharks' Timothy Liljegren: Playing Thursday

Liljegren (upper body) will return to the lineup Thursday against the Rangers, per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.

Liljegren has been activated from injured reserve after missing the last three games. He has yet to hit the scoresheet in three appearances, but he does have 10 blocked shots and three hits this season.

  • Bruins' Hampus Lindholm: Deemed game-time decision

Lindholm (undisclosed) is considered a game-time decision for Thursday's matchup against Anaheim, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reports.

Although head coach Marco Sturm officially labeled Lindholm as a game-time decision for Thursday's matchup, the defenseman stayed out after morning skate with the team's scratches, which signals that he could be forced to miss a third consecutive game. If he's sidelined, Michael Callahan will likely enter the lineup.

  • Maple Leafs' Dakota Mermis: Back in NHL

Mermis was recalled from AHL Toronto on Thursday.

Mermis was held without a point in two AHL games this season before his recall. He will likely be the Maple Leafs sixth or seventh defenseman while Chris Tanev is out of action with an upper-body injury, depending on whether head coach Craig Berube decides to go with Philippe Myers or Mermis on the blue line.

  • Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Placed on injured reserve

Tanev (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.

The move i retroactive to Tuesday, when Tanev sustained his injury versus the Devils. Tanev has one assist in seven games, but his loss will be felt defensively. The Maple Leafs recalled Dakota Mermis from AHL Toronto in a corresponding move.
