  • Kings' Kyle Burroughs: Placed on injured reserve

The Kings placed Burroughs (upper body) on injured reserve Sunday.

Burroughs sustained an upper-body injury during Tuesday's preseason game against the Mammoth and will be forced to miss at least the first week of the regular season. However, he's unlikely to play a significant role for Los Angeles this year, even when he's healthy.

  • Maple Leafs' Dakota Mermis: Among Leafs' final cuts

Mermis was placed on waivers by the Maple Leafs, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports Sunday.

Mermis will likely begin the season with AHL Toronto, where he had seven assists in 32 regular-season appearances last campaign. The 31-year-old did get into four games between his time with Utah and the Maple Leafs during the 2024-25 regular season, picking up one assist, but Mermis isn't likely to return to the NHL this year unless the Maple Leafs' defensive corps is dealing with injury troubles.

  • Jack Ahcan D | COL

    Avalanche's Jack Ahcan: Hit waivers

Ahcan was placed on waivers by the Avalanche, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports Sunday.

Ahcan was among the final roster cuts made by the Avalanche ahead of their regular-season opener Tuesday. The 28-year-old will likely start the campaign with AHL Colorado, where he had 41 points in 69 regular-season appearances in 2024-25.

  • Matt Benning D | TOR

Maple Leafs' Matt Benning: Waived by Toronto

Benning was placed on waivers by the Maple Leafs on Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Benning made some appearances with the Sharks early in the 2024-25 campaign, but he played exclusively for AHL Toronto after being dealt to the Maple Leafs in early November. He'll presumably head back to the AHL if he clears waivers, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him spend most of this season in the minors.

  • Avalanche's Keaton Middleton: On waivers

Middleton was placed on waivers by the Avalanche, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports Sunday.

Middleton spent the majority of the 2024-25 regular season at the top level, playing 41 NHL games against just 17 outings with AHL Colorado. After Sunday's move, the 27-year-old seems primed to start the season at least in the minors, but he should be one of the Avalanche's first call-up options on the blue line.

  • Henry Thrun D | TOR

Maple Leafs' Henry Thrun: Placed on waivers

Thrun was placed on waivers by the Maple Leafs, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports Sunday.

Thrun, acquired in a trade over the offseason by Toronto, will likely begin his Maple Leafs tenure in the AHL, assuming he clears waivers. In 60 games with San Jose last year, the 24-year-old had two goals and 10 assists while averaging 17:31 of ice time.

  • Justin Holl D | STL

Red Wings' Justin Holl: Placed on waivers

Holl was placed on waivers by the Red Wings, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports Sunday.

Holl was placed on the waivers ahead of final cuts by the Red Wings last year, but he still went on to record eight points across 73 games at the NHL level in 2024-25. The 33-year-old is in the last season of a three-year, $10.2 million contract.

  • Lightning's Declan Carlile: Waived by Tampa Bay

Carlile was placed on waivers by the Lightning on Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Carlile has made just four regular-season NHL appearances across the past two years, and he'll be left off the Opening Night roster ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. He made 55 regular-season appearances with AHL Syracuse last year and recorded six goals, 10 assists and 52 PIM. He'll presumably head back to Syracuse if he clears waivers and will likely spend most of the season in the minors.

  • Red Wings' Erik Gustafsson: Hits waivers for AHL assignment

Gustafsson was placed on waivers by the Red Wings on Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Gustafsson was one of a handful of normal NHL regulars who hit the waiver wire Sunday. The 33-year-old ended the 2024-25 campaign injured, but he still logged 60 games with Detroit last year, recording two goals and 18 points. If Gustafsson suits up in an AHL game, it will be for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

  • Blues' Hunter Skinner: Placed on waivers by St. Louis

Skinner was placed on waivers by the Blues on Sunday, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports.

Skinner joined the Blues on a two-way deal during the offseason, but he'll be left off the team's Opening Night roster ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. He hasn't yet made his regular-season debut in the NHL and will likely head to AHL Springfield if he clears waivers.
