  • Golden Knights' Dylan Coghlan: Waived by Vegas

Coghlan was waived by the Golden Knights on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Coghlan returned to the Golden Knights on a one-year deal during the offseason, but he's slated to begin the 2025-26 campaign at AHL Henderson if he passes through waivers. The 27-year-old made just six regular-season appearances for Winnipeg last year and recorded seven blocked shots, four PIM and two hits while averaging 15:21 of ice time.

  • Penguins' Sebastian Aho: Placed on waivers

Aho landed on the waiver wire Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Aho was facing an uphill battle to secure a spot on the Opening Night roster, so his placement on waivers shouldn't come as a surprise. Given the team's up-and-coming youngsters on the blue line, including Owen Pickering and Harrison Brunicke, the 29-year-old Aho is unlikely to see much ice time in the NHL this year.

  • Philip Kemp D | PIT

Penguins' Philip Kemp: Hits waiver wire

Kemp was waived by the Penguins on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Kemp was never going to make the Opening Night roster for the Penguins, especially given the emergence of Harrison Brunicke. For his part, the 26-year-old Kemp has logged just one NHL appearance back in 2023-24 when he was with the Oilers. Look for Kemp to feature exclusively for AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, making him a relative non-factor in fantasy contests.

  • Mammoth's Scott Perunovich: Hits waivers Thursday

Perunovich was placed on waivers by the Mammoth on Thursday.

Perunovich split time between the Blues and Islanders last year but joined the Mammoth on a one-year, two-way contract during the offseason. The 27-year-old was unable to land a spot on Utah's Opening Night roster, and he'll head to AHL Tucson if he clears waivers. However, he's made at least 35 regular-season appearances in the NHL in each of the last two campaigns, so he'll likely be a top candidate to be called up if the Mammoth need additional depth.

  • Flames' Ilya Solovyov: Placed on waivers

Solovyov was placed on waivers by the Flames on Thursday.

Solovyov spent most of the 2024-25 campaign with AHL Calgary, and he'll head back to the minors ahead of the 2025-26 regular season if he clears waivers. The 25-year-old will be a candidate to be called up if the Flames need additional depth, but he'll likely spend most of the year with the Wranglers.

  • Bowen Byram D | BUF

Sabres' Bowen Byram: Slated to return Friday

Byram (undisclosed) is expected to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Penguins, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.

Byram suffered an undisclosed injury against the Red Wings on Saturday, but he returned to the ice during Thursday's practice session and will likely have a final chance to suit up during the preseason Friday. He appeared in all 82 regular-season games for the Sabres last year and recorded seven goals, 31 assists, 117 blocked shots, 75 hits and 46 PIM while averaging 22:42 of ice time.

  • Ducks' Jackson LaCombe: Signs eight-year pact

LaCombe inked an eight-year, $72 million contract extension with Anaheim on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

LaCombe's new deal comes in at the same $9 million AAV as the recently signed Luke Hughes, which seems to be driving the market. It's a somewhat risky play for Anaheim, considering the 24-year-old LaCombe has just two NHL seasons under his belt, including the 2024-25 campaign in which he notched 14 goals and 29 helpers, along with nine power-play points.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Ruled out for Thursday's game

Hedman (undisclosed) has been ruled out for Thursday's preseason game against the Panthers, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Hedman sustained an undisclosed injury during Friday's preseason game against Carolina, and he hasn't been seen on the ice since then. However, the Lightning hope that he'll be available for next Thursday's Opening Night matchup against the Senators. The 34-year-old made 79 regular-season appearances last year, racking up 15 goals, 51 assists, 133 blocked shots, 39 hits and 30 PIM while averaging 23:05 of ice time.

  • Devils' Seamus Casey: Not skating Thursday

Casey didn't skate Thursday due to a lower-body injury, signaling that he'll be unavailable for the Devils' preseason matchup against the Rangers, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports.

Casey was hindered by a lower-body injury earlier in training camp, and the issue has apparently resurfaced a week before the start of the regular season. It's not yet clear whether his injury will prevent him from playing in Saturday's preseason finale against the Flyers.

  • Penguins' Jack St. Ivany: Set for six-week absence

St. Ivany suffered a lower-body injury that will sideline him for at least six weeks, the Penguins announced Thursday.

St. Ivany was unlikely to make the Penguins' Opening Night roster, with veteran Connor Clifton and Matt Dumba ahead of him on the depth chart -- not to mention youngster Harrison Brunicke. Once cleared to play, fantasy managers should expect St. Ivany to be reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
