Canadiens' Lane Hutson: Two helpers in Game 1 loss

Hutson picked up two assists, one on the power play, in Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Capitals in Game 1 of their first-round series.

Both helpers came in the third period as the Canadiens rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but Alex Ovechkin ended any thoughts of an upset with the OT winner. Hutson put his name in the record books with an incredible rookie season, and the 21-year-old blueliner will be key to any chances of a Montreal comeback in the series, beginning with Game 2 on Wednesday.

  • Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Offers helper in Game 1 win

Slavin notched an assist and three shots on goal in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Devils in Game 1.

Slavin will be relied on for his defense during the playoffs, but he can chip in some offense as well. The defenseman had three assists over his last seven regular-season appearances before resting for two games leading into the postseason. He had a total of 27 points, 110 shots on net, 136 blocked shots and a plus-16 rating over 80 regular-season outings in a top-pairing role.

  • Hurricanes' Jalen Chatfield: Lights lamp in Game 1

Chatfield scored a goal, had two PIM and recorded a blocked shot in Sunday's 4-1 win over New Jersey in Game 1.

Chatfield's goal set the tempo for the rest of the contest by finding the back of the net just under two and a half minutes into Game 1. He then picked up a cross-checking penalty on New Jersey's Nico Hischier just minutes later. Even though Chatfield tallied just seven goals in the regular season, he's had the hot hand as of late with two goals in his last three contests. Chatfield will likely cool off offensively throughout the playoffs and return to his primary role as a strong defenseman with a good plus-minus rating. However, his ability to perform offensively in big moments is an encouraging sign for the Hurricanes moving forward.

  • Stars' Miro Heiskanen: Not ready to return

Heiskanen (knee) won't play against Colorado on Monday in Game 2, per Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News.

Heiskanen participated in Monday's morning skate but remains day-to-day. Despite his recent progress, he will miss his 34th straight game, and it remains unclear when he will be ready to return. Heiskanen accounted for five goals, 25 points, 108 shots on net and 85 blocked shots in 50 appearances during the 2024-25 regular season.

  • Capitals' Martin Fehervary: Not expected to play

Fehervary (lower body) hasn't resumed skating yet, and he likely won't play in Game 1 versus Montreal on Monday, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.

Fehervary will miss his second straight game after sitting out Thursday's 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh. He concluded the 2024-25 regular season with five goals, 25 points, 76 shots on net, 150 blocked shots and 139 hits across 81 appearances. Fehervary will probably be replaced in Monday's lineup by Alexander Alexeyev or Dylan McIlrath.

  • Rangers' Braden Schneider: Undergoes shoulder surgery

Schneider (shoulder) missed the final two games of the regular season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum, according to Peter Baugh of The Athletic on Monday.

Schneider mentioned he had been playing through the issue but wanted to address it before the 2025-26 campaign. He expects to be ready for training camp in the fall. Schneider had six goals, 21 points, 95 shots on net, 145 blocked shots and 146 hits across 80 appearances in 2024-25.

  • Predators' Marc Del Gaizo: Sent to minors

Del Gaizo was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Monday.

Del Gaizo was waived by the Predators last week, and he'll head to the minors now that the team's season has concluded. Over 46 appearances with Nashville this year, he recorded two goals, seven assists, 71 hits and 53 blocked shots while averaging 16:45 of ice time.

  • Golden Knights' Alex Pietrangelo: Offers helper in Game 1 win

Pietrangelo supplied an assist, two shots on goal and four blocked shots in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Wild in Game 1.

Pietrangelo missed eight of the Golden Knights' last 12 games during the regular season due to injuries and illness. The 35-year-old blueliner looks to be fine now, and that will allow him to fill a top-four role in the playoffs as long as he can stay healthy. Pietrangelo put up 33 points in 71 regular-season contests, in addition to 123 shots on net, 139 blocked shots and a plus-11 rating.

  • Golden Knights' Noah Hanifin: Logs helper in win

Hanifin managed an assist, two hits and two blocked shots in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Wild in Game 1.

Hanifin helped out on the first of Brett Howden's two goals in the third period. After being limited to one goal over his final eight regular-season games, Hanifin rested for the Golden Knights' last two contests before the playoffs. The 28-year-old defenseman will see some chances on offense, but his defensive play is what will be most valuable in the postseason. He had 39 points (10 on the power play), 145 shots on net and 106 blocked shots over 80 regular-season contests in 2024-25.

  • Golden Knights' Shea Theodore: Pockets power-play helper

Theodore notched a power-play assist in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Wild in Game 1.

Theodore has four helpers over his last four games, but this was his first power-play point since before he was hurt at the 4 Nations Face-Off. The 29-year-old defenseman still had career highs in points (57) and power-play points (19) over 67 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. Theodore will play a big role in the Golden Knights' top four and should be the most productive blueliner on the team in terms of offense.
