NHL Player News

  • Panthers' Tobias Bjornfot: Brought up from minors

Bjornfot was recalled from AHL Charlotte on Tuesday.

Bjornfot hasn't earned a point in eight NHL outings this season while posting eight shots on goal, five blocked shots and 10 hits. If Dmitry Kulikov (upper body) can't play against Columbus on Thursday, Bjornfot could be in the lineup.

  • Golden Knights' Shea Theodore: Takes part in practice

Theodore (arm) wore a non-contact jersey during Tuesday's practice, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Theodore appears to be progressing despite being week-to-week and not having a clear timeline for his return to the lineup. He has missed the last 11 games after getting injured during the 4 Nations Face-Off. If Theodore's return isn't close, he might land on long-term injured reserve to allow Vegas to activate William Karlsson (lower body) from the LTIR list.

  • Sharks' Jimmy Schuldt: Sent to AHL

Schuldt was assigned to AHL San Jose on Tuesday.

The Sharks recalled Luca Cagnoni in a corresponding move. Schuldt hasn't earned a point in four NHL outings this season while posting four shots on goal, three blocked shots and nine hits. He has notched five goals and 13 assists in 54 AHL appearances this campaign.

  • Wild's Jared Spurgeon: Produces two helpers in win

Spurgeon logged a pair of assists in Monday's 3-1 win over the Kings.

Spurgeon has a goal and six assists over eight contests in March. One of his helpers Monday was on Ryan Hartman's power-play tally in the second period, and the other set up Marcus Johansson's empty-netter in the third. Spurgeon is up to 28 points, 84 shots on net, 93 blocked shots, 42 hits and a plus-8 rating through 53 appearances. His playing style doesn't pop, but he's well on his way to the 30-point mark for the seventh time in the last nine seasons, which makes him a reliable depth option in fantasy.

  • Kevin Bahl D | CGY

Flames' Kevin Bahl: Scores late in loss

Bahl scored a goal on three shots and added three hits in Monday's 6-2 loss to Maple Leafs.

Bahl's goal was his first since Jan. 14, but it came in the final minute of a blowout loss. He has two points over his last three contests, and he's finding a bit more success alongside a resurgent Rasmus Andersson in recent games. Bahl has a career year across the board in the offensive categories, earning three goals and 14 assists through 57 appearances. He's added 60 shots on net, 75 hits, 97 blocked shots, 33 PIM and an even plus-minus rating as a shutdown defender in a top-four role.

  • Adam Pelech D | NYI

Islanders' Adam Pelech: Good to go

Pelech (lower body) will play against Pittsburgh on Tuesday, according to Rachel Luscher of the Islanders' official site.

After a one-game absence, Pelech will play alongside Tony DeAngelo in Tuesday's matchup because Alexander Romanov (illness) is unavailable. The 30-year-old Pelech has 17 assists, 87 shots on goal, 65 blocked shots and 68 hits across 45 appearances this season.

  • Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Won't face Pens

Romanov (illness) will not be in the lineup versus Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Romanov is currently mired in a seven-game pointless streak during which he registered 10 shots, 19 hits and 21 blocks while averaging 22:06 of ice time. Given his offensive limitations, the 25-year-old defenseman is unlikely to offer much in the way of fantasy value except in banger leagues. Adam Pelech (lower body) will rejoin the lineup with Romanov on the shelf.

  • Oilers' John Klingberg: Still sidelined

Klingberg (undisclosed) won't play Tuesday versus Utah, per Oilers play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels.

Klingberg will remain sidelined for a seventh straight game. The Swedish blueliner has accounted for one goal, three helpers, eight PIM and a plus-2 rating over 10 outings with the Oilers. Klingberg should contend with Troy Stecher and Ty Emberson for a bottom-four role once he's ready for game action.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Sends assist Monday

Rielly logged an assist and a plus-2 rating in Monday's 6-2 win over the Flames.

Rielly has earned three helpers over eight outings in March so far. The defenseman also has a minus-5 rating, 11 shots on net and 12 blocked shots for the month. It's a bit of a slowdown on offense compared to February, but Rielly remains productive overall with 34 points, 108 shots on net, 95 blocks and a minus-18 rating through 67 appearances in a top-four role.

  • Maple Leafs' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Dishes two assists in win

Ekman-Larsson logged a pair of assists in Monday's 6-2 win over the Flames.

Ekman-Larsson helped out on goals by Max Domi and Nicholas Robertson. With three helpers over his last three outings, Ekman-Larsson's offense is warming up following a five-game slump. The 33-year-old defenseman has earned 28 points, 105 shots on net, 86 hits, 63 blocked shots, 50 PIM and a plus-9 rating over 66 appearances. He's poised to reach the 30-point mark for the second year in a row, which would be the 10th time in his 15-year career. Three of the times he's missed that threshold were in abbreviated seasons, and one other instance was in his rookie year.
