  • Hurricanes' Alexander Nikishin: Two points against Pens

Nikishin scored a power-play goal and added an even-strength assist in Tuesday's 5-4 shootout win over Pittsburgh.

Both points came in the third period, with the power-play tally being his fourth of the season and second in as many games. Nikishin has taken over the top spot with the man advantage for the Hurricanes while Shayne Gostisbehere (lower body) is sidelined, and the 24-year-old rookie is running with the opportunity. On the season, Nikishin has nine goals and 25 points in 63 games, including eight power-play points.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Hangs on for shootout win

Andersen stopped 24 shots in regulation and overtime and two of three shootout attempts in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Penguins.

The veteran netminder seemed to be cruising toward a win when the Hurricanes grabbed a 4-2 lead midway through the third period. However, Andersen coughed up two late goals, which forced the game to overtime. Still, he got his third win in four starts since the Olympic break despite a 2.73 GAA and an .875 save percentage over that stretch. He has been working in a timeshare with Brandon Bussi.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Slated starter Wednesday

Thompson is expected to start on the road against Philadelphia on Wednesday, per Adam Kimelman of NHL.com.

Thompson has a 22-18-4 record, 2.42 GAA and .912 save percentage in 44 outings in 2025-26. He stopped 23 of 26 shots in a 7-3 victory over Calgary in his last start Monday. Thompson turned aside 23 of 24 shots en route to a 3-1 victory over the Flyers on Feb. 25, so he'll be looking for a similar result Wednesday.

  • Penguins' Erik Karlsson: Two-point effort Tuesday

Karlsson notched two assists, one on the power play, in Tuesday's 5-4 shootout loss to Carolina.

Both helpers came on goals by Bryan Rust, including the game-tying tally inside the final minute of the third period. Karlsson has found a groove since the Olympic break. Over the last seven games, the veteran blueliner has produced two goals and nine points.

  • Penguins' Yegor Chinakhov: Two helpers in shootout loss

Chinakhov picked up two assists, one on the power play, in Tuesday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Hurricanes.

The 25-year-old winger had a hand in tallies by Bryan Rust in the second period and Noel Acciari in the third. Chinakhov continues to thrive with Pittsburgh. Over 11 games since the beginning of February, he has collected five goals and 11 points.

  • Bryan Rust RW | PIT

Penguins' Bryan Rust: Three points in Carolina

Rust scored two goals, one on the power play, and added an assist in Tuesday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Hurricanes.

After potting a goal with the man advantage in the second period, Rust earned two points in the last 2:08 of the third frame to force overtime. The veteran winger is stepping up with Sidney Crosby (lower body) and Evgeni Malkin (suspension) unavailable. Over the last seven games, Rust has delivered four goals and nine points, including two goals and two assists on the power play.

  • Jacob Fowler G | MON

Canadiens' Jacob Fowler: Set to face Ottawa

Fowler is expected to start on the road against Ottawa on Wednesday.

Montreal called up Fowler from AHL Laval on Wednesday. He has a 4-4-2 record, 2.62 GAA and .902 save percentage in 10 appearances with the Canadiens this season. However, his last outing with Montreal was Jan. 15, and his last NHL win came against Calgary on Jan. 7. Ottawa is 9-1-2 while averaging 3.92 goals per game across its past 12 matches, so this figures to be a challenging assignment for Fowler.

  • Penguins' Stuart Skinner: Busy in shootout loss Tuesday

Skinner turned aside 39 shots in regulation and overtime and one of three shootout attempts in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to Carolina.

The Penguins needed two late goals in the third period just to force overtime, as they were outshot 43-28 on the night, but their luck ran out in the shootout. Skinner is winless over his last five starts, going 0-1-4 with a 3.08 GAA and an .881 save percentage. He remains stuck on 19 wins for the season.

  • Mammoth's Nick Schmaltz: Signs eight-year extension

Schmaltz signed an eight-year, $64 million contract extension with Utah on Wednesday.

Schmaltz is in the final season of his seven-year, $40.95 million contract and had the option to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He has 24 goals and 59 points in 65 outings in 2025-26. The 30-year-old's 24 goals are already a career high, topping his 23 markers during the 2021-22 regular season. He has a good chance of also surpassing his personal best of 63 points, which he established across 82 regular-season outings in 2024-25.

  • Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Pots winner in OT on Tuesday

McAvoy scored the overtime winner in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Kings.

The 28-year-old blueliner took a feed from David Pastrnak and beat Darcy Kuemper with a backhander just 39 seconds into the extra frame. It was McAvoy's first game-winning goal of the season, and it continued a hot streak that has seen him rack up five goals and 21 points over the last 18 games.
