  • White Sox's Alex Presley: Inks minor-league deal

Presley signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Wednesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Presley will head to Triple-A Charlotte after coming to terms with the White Sox. He elected to opt out of his last contract with the Orioles on May 16 after slashing .275/.347/.367 with one homer and eight RBI in 26 games for Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Alex Presley: Opts out of contract

Presley opted out of his minor-league contract with the Orioles on Wednesday, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports. Presley will look for big-league opportunities elsewhere after spending the first month of the season with Triple-A Norfolk, where he hit a respectable .275/.347/.367 across 26 games. He could choose to return to the Orioles given their need for left-handed hitting outfielders, but the 32-year-old doesn't project as anything more than organizational outfield depth wherever he lands.

  • Orioles' Alex Presley: Fails to crack Opening Day roster

The Orioles reassigned Presley to minor-league camp Sunday, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports. Presley performed well at the plate in spring training with a .325 batting average and .829 OPS, but that effort didn't prove enough to earn an Opening Day roster spot. The 32-year-old's outfield versatility and 2017 success (slashing .314/.354/.416 in 245 at-bats) could earn him a look elsewhere, but at this point, he appears slated for Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Orioles' Alex Presley: Signs minor-league deal with Orioles

Presley signed a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training with Baltimore on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. The 32-year-old journeyman outfielder has played for five teams in his eight-year major-league career. He hit for a strong .314/.354/.416 line in 264 plate appearances for the Tigers last season, though that small-sample success was aided by an unsustainably high .383 BABIP. He received at least 10 starts at all three outfield positions last year. That flexibility and the fact that he hits left-handed, unlike most of Baltimore's outfielders, could help him win a bench spot this spring.

  • Alex Presley: Heads to free agency

Presley decided to elect free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment from the Tigers on Thursday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Presley will look to latch on with a different organization after having a solid season with the Tigers, especially once he earned a bigger role following the team's moves at the trade deadline. During 71 major-league games, he slashed .314/.354/.416 with three home runs and 20 RBI.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Collects three hits Wednesday

Presley went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Wednesday's loss to the Royals. The three-hit effort boosted Presley's season average up to .325. Needless to say, not many saw this coming after the outfielder hit .198 last year with Milwaukee and Detroit. Presley has played his way into the mix for a starting role in 2018, though he'll likely be competing with JaCoby Jones, Nick Castellanos and Mikie Mahtook for playing time.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Homers among four hits in loss

Presley went 4-for-6 with a double and a solo homer in a 9-8 loss to the A's on Tuesday. With a cool .322 average through 61 games, Presley has been a surprise contributor for AL-only formats, but there's not a lot of depth to that production. He has just two homers and four steals on his line, and Presley's sky-high BABIP -- .386 entering play Tuesday -- is crying out for regression to the mean.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Out again Saturday

Presley is not in the lineup against Toronto on Saturday. Presley will remain on the bench for the second consecutive game while Nick Castellanos draws another start in right field. Over the course of the season, Presley is hitting .309/.353/.389 with one home run and 14 RBI in 54 games.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Rests Friday

Presley is out of the lineup against the Blue Jays on Friday. Presley receives a standard day off following seven straight starts, batting .387/.406/.452 with a pair of RBI during that span. Nick Castellanos gets the assignment in right field in his stead.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Collects three hits Monday

Presley went 3-for-5 a triple, an RBI and two runs scored in Monday's loss to the Royals. Presley has been a pleasant surprise for Detroit this season. His three-hit effort boosted his batting average to .313, which comes on the heels of a 2016 season in which he batted just .198. With the Tigers in a rebuilding mode heading into 2018, Presley could get the chance to establish himself as more of an everyday player, though JaCoby Jones figures into the organization's outfield plans as well, along with Mikie Mahtook and possibly Nick Castellanos if he moves off of third base.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Sits again Sunday

Presley is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. Presley found himself in the starting lineup for nine of the Tigers' first 10 games following his activation from the disabled list Aug. 11, but he will now be stationed on the bench for the third time in the past four games. Mikie Mahtook will start in right field with JaCoby Jones taking over in center field.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Retreats to bench Saturday

Presley is not in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox. Presley has started 10 of 11 games since returning from an oblique injury, slashing .237/.293/.263 over that span, so he'll head to the bench for a day off. Andrew Romine takes over for him in right field, batting eighth.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Has three-hit game Sunday

Presley went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Twins. Presley was playing well before missing about two weeks with an oblique injury, and he now has four hits over his first two games back from the disabled list. With a .327 average and .800 OPS, Presley should continue to work in center and right field along with Mikie Mahtook, although the Tigers also are likely to try out Nick Castellanos in right down the stretch to make room for prospect Jeimer Candelario at third. It will be interesting to see how manager Brad Ausmus juggles his options in the outfield the rest of the way.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Activated from DL

Presley (oblique) was activated from the 10-day DL following Friday's loss to the Twins, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Presley missed about two weeks of action before starting a rehab assignment Wednesday, and he proved that he was ready to go in fairly short order. Presley should work his way back into the center field mix with Mikie Mahtook, and both players should also get time in right. Jim Adduci was optioned to Triple-A Toledo to make room on the roster.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Set for rehab games

Presley (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. The veteran outfielder has been sidelined for nearly two weeks while recovering from a right oblique strain, but his recent progress in baseball activities has provided a positive outlook as to a quick return. It's unclear how many rehab games Presley will require before he returns to the Tigers, but he could be back sometime during this weekend's series with the Twins, barring any setbacks.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Nearing rehab assignment

Presley (oblique) is scheduled to resume baseball activities on the field Monday and Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. This will mark the first baseball activities Presley has taken part in since landing on the disabled list at the end of July. If all goes well, the hope is that he'll be able to head out on a rehab assignment shortly after, which would be the last step in his rehab before rejoining the Tigers. Jim Adduci should continue to man right field while Presley is sidelined.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Diagnosed with mild oblique injury

Presley said Sunday that an MRI revealed he suffered a mild strain of his lower right oblique muscle, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. The Tigers moved Presley to the 10-day disabled list Saturday with what was labeled as a hip issue, but the MRI helped provide further clarification. While it's good to hear that the strain is considered mild, oblique injuries can often result in volatile return timetables, so until Presley resumes full baseball activities, his activation shouldn't be considered forthcoming. Jim Adduci and Andrew Romine will likely share duties in right field for the Tigers until Presley is healthy again.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Will land on disabled list

Presley (hip) will be placed on the 10-day DL prior to Saturday's game against the Astros, Anthony Fenech of Free Press Sports reports. Presley has apparently been battling a hip injury since last weekend, and the outfielder was reportedly underwent an MRI on Friday to determine the severity of the issue. He hasn't played since Wednesday against Kansas City and didn't record a hit during the three-game set beginning Monday. The Tigers recalled Jim Adduci from Triple-A Toledo to take his place, while more information should be revealed following Presley's tests.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Not in Friday's lineup

Presley is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Houston. Presley receives a standard day off with left-hander Dallas Keuchel taking the bump for the Astros on Friday. In his place, Andrew Romine draws the start in right.

  • Tigers' Alex Presley: Moves into No. 2 spot

Presley will start in right field and bat second Monday against the Royals, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. With Alex Avila recording just two hits in his last 22 at-bats, he'll drop to seventh in the order Monday, opening up the two hole for Presley. The outfielder has certainly deserved the promotion up the lineup, as he's put together an eight-game hitting streak during which he's gone 14-for-30 with seven runs scored. Presley's modest career track record suggests he'll fall back to earth before long, but he could have some appeal in deeper mixed leagues and AL-only formats while his bat remains hot.
