  • Daniel Hudson: Announces retirement

Hudson announced his retirement from professional baseball following the Dodgers' title-clinching 7-6 victory over the Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Now a two-time World Series champion, the 37-year-old Hudson will hang up his cleats after a 15-year career spent with seven different organizations. He finishes with a 3.74 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 855.1 innings, though he only got better with age. He put up a 2.69 ERA and 1.02 in 90.1 innings across his final three seasons with the Dodgers.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Gives up Game 4 grand slam

Hudson allowed a pivotal grand slam to Anthony Volpe to take the loss against the Yankees on Tuesday in Game 4 of the World Series. After Ben Casparius gave the Dodgers two innings of one-run ball, manager Dave Roberts wanted to avoid having him go through the top of the Yankees' order again and turned to Hudson, who didn't have it Tuesday. After Hudson's inning, the Dodgers avoided using their remaining primary relievers in order to have them all be available for Wednesday's Game 5.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Available for Game 3

Manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Hudson will be available for Game 3 of the NLCS against the Mets on Wednesday after dealing with a lower-body injury in Game 2, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. Hudson pitched a scoreless inning during Game 1 but was apparently unavailable for Game 2 due to an injury that wasn't disclosed beforehand. The discomfort seems to have subsided, and the 37-year-old righty will be able to pitch in high-leverage situations after logging 10 saves and posting a 3.00 ERA during the regular season.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Picks up 10th save

Hudson got the save in Tuesday's win over the Mariners, allowing a hit over a scoreless inning. He was staked a three-run lead after Jason Heyward put the Dodgers ahead in the eighth with a home run. Hudson was able to pick up his first save in eight days and posted just his second scoreless outing over his last six appearances. Michael Kopech and Evan Phillips have also picked up saves over the past week, signifying that the Dodgers' closer role is still more of a committee. Hudson owns a 2.61 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 50:12 K:BB in 51.2 innings to go along with 10 saves, 16 holds and six wins.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Falters in eighth frame Thursday

Hudson (6-2) blew a save and took the loss against the Brewers on Thursday, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk over two-thirds of an inning. Los Angeles carried a one-run lead into the eighth inning, and manager Dave Roberts turned to Hudson -- who had six saves over his previous 12 outings entering Thursday -- to face the heart of Milwaukee's order. The strategy didn't pay off, as Hudson was tagged for three runs on a double, two singles and a walk. Though the righty reliever has been excellent overall this season, he's given up at least one earned run in three of his past four appearances. Despite his deployment in the eighth frame Thursday, Hudson is likely to still see some save chances moving forward; however, Roberts has gone with more of a committee approach in recent weeks, so Hudson may not get the same volume of save opportunities as the league's more locked-in closers.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Perfect for ninth save

Hudson picked up the save Monday against Milwaukee, tossing a perfect ninth inning with no strikeouts. Hudson has handled the Dodgers' last two save opportunities and has turned in a pair of scoreless innings, boosting his save total to nine. While Evan Phillips and Michael Kopech could see occasional ninth-inning work, the closing job seems to be tilting in favor of Hudson. The 37-year-old Hudson has a 2.02 ERA through 49.0 innings this season.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Records eighth save

Hudson earned a save against the Phillies on Monday, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning. Manager Dave Roberts went to Hudson with the Dodgers up two runs entering the ninth inning, and the righty reliever came through with an 11-pitch scoreless frame. The save was Hudson's first since July 22, with three other Dodgers relievers notching a save since that date. It's apparent that Evan Phillips is no longer going to get the bulk of Los Angeles' save opportunities for the time being, and Hudson seems to be the most likely Dodgers pitcher to be called upon in his stead, but it's quite possible that Roberts continues to spread ninth-inning opportunities among a number of relievers in what has been one of the majors' top bullpens.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Deployed in sixth inning Thursday

Hudson earned a hold against the Giants on Thursday, walking one batter and striking out two in a scoreless sixth inning. Hudson had earned a save in each of his previous four outings coming into Thursday, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts decided to bring him in with Los Angeles up 4-2 in the sixth frame. The veteran reliever issued a two-out walk but kept the team's lead intact with a scoreless inning. Meanwhile, Evan Phillips -- who has been Los Angeles' primary closer for most of the campaign -- worked the seventh inning Thursday, while recent signee Brent Honeywell got the ninth and notched a save. Hudson is the most likely reliever on the team to be called upon for save chances, but it's clear that Roberts isn't tied to any individual closer and won't hesitate to use his top high-leverage options in situations outside of the ninth inning.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Nabs seventh save

Hudson walked one and struck out two in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Monday's 3-2 win over the Giants. Hudson's importance in the Dodgers' bullpen continues to grow, especially given Evan Phillips' recent struggles. Hudson has earned a save in each of his last four appearances, and he hasn't given up a run over his last 7.2 innings while posting a 9:4 K:BB in that span. The veteran right-hander is up to seven saves along with 13 holds this year, and he's pitched to a 1.52 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB through 41.1 innings overall.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Nursing stiff back

Hudson wasn't available out of the bullpen for Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Tigers due to back stiffness, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Hudson has been dealing with the injury for the last couple of days, which likely explains why he also went unused in the 11-9 extra-inning loss to Detroit on Saturday, when manager Dave Roberts turned to less-trusted bullpen arms in Ricky Vanasco and Yohan Ramirez late in the game in high-leverage spots. The Dodgers seem to be viewing Hudson as day-to-day with the hope that he'll be ready to pitch coming out of the All-Star break.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Earns fourth save

Hudson earned the save against the Tigers on Friday, walking two and striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning. The Dodgers deployed closer Evan Phillips in the sixth inning, ensuring he would get some work after he hadn't pitched since July 6, so Hudson was called upon to protect a 4-3 lead in the ninth and did so despite throwing just 10 strikes on 25 pitches. This was Hudson's first save since May 20, as Alex Vesia likely would have worked the ninth had he been available Friday. On the year, Hudson owns four saves and 13 holds with a 1.63 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 42:7 K:BB over 38.2 innings.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Bridges gap to closer for hold

Hudson earned a hold against Kansas City on Sunday, striking out two batters in a perfect eighth inning. Tyler Glasnow gave Los Angeles seven shutout frames, and manager Dave Roberts then turned to Hudson to protect a three-run lead. The veteran reliever did so without any trouble, retiring all three batters he faced on 10 pitches. Hudson has been excellent for the Dodgers this season, posting a 1.93 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 31:3 K:BB over 28 innings while recording 10 holds, three saves and three wins. He's gone 13 straight outings without giving up a run, posting a 15:2 K:BB during that stretch.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Nabs win in Tuesday's matinee

Hudson (2-1) gave up two hits and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets, recording the win in a 5-2 extra-inning victory. Entering the game in the bottom of the ninth and the score tied, 2-2, Hudson very nearly handed New York the win, loading the bases with just one out. The veteran right-hander bore down and coaxed popups from Tyrone Taylor and Jeff McNeil to end the threat. Hudson has been sharp in May, collecting two saves, a win and a hold in seven appearances with a 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB, but with Evan Phillips (hamstring) due back by the end of the week, the former's stint as a fill-in closer is due to end.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Nabs third save

Hudson struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Monday's 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks. Hudson is on a five-inning scoreless streak dating back to his May 8 save versus the Marlins. He's served as the Dodgers' top closing option since Evan Phillips (hamstring) went on the injured list earlier in May, though save chances have been sparse. Hudson has two saves since Phillips was hurt, while J.P. Feyereisen, who was reassigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City over the weekend, is the only other reliever to pick up a save in that span. For the season, Hudson is at a 2.70 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 22:1 K:BB with three saves and eight holds over 20 innings.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Converts for second save

Hudson earned the save Wednesday against Miami, striking out one over a perfect inning. Closer Evan Phillips (hamstring) landed on the injured list Sunday, and it didn't take long for Hudson to step in for the ninth inning. However, it was lefty Alex Vesia who tallied Los Angeles' first save Monday in the wake of the injury. Matchups could dictate which reliever manager Dave Roberts turns to while Phillips is sidelined, which should give Hudson an edge in volume since he's a right-hander.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Coulds see save chances

Hudson is the likely favorite for save opportunities after Dodgers closer Evan Phillips (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday. Hudson has been working in a setup role in the early stages of the season, putting him in prime position to fill in at closer for the Dodgers. The right-hander has seven holds and a save with a 3.60 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 16:1 K:BB over 15 innings this year. Phillips' injury was diagnosed as a Grade 1 strain, per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports, so a return at the 15-day minimum is possible.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Locks down save

Hudson struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning and earned a save over St. Louis on Sunday. Hudson made quick work of the Cardinals with 16 pitches, including five whiffs. The veteran righty was given the shot in the ninth inning after Evan Phillips pitched both Friday and Saturday. Hudson has tossed three scoreless frames with four punchouts to begin the year.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Officially added to roster

The Dodgers selected Hudson's contract from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, J.P. Hoornstra of DodgersNation.com reports. Hudson had already been told he would be part of the Opening Day bullpen, so his addition was merely a formality. The 37-year-old has missed most of the last two seasons with knee issues but has been superb when on the mound, holding a 1.98 ERA and 35:8 K:BB over 27.1 innings during that span. He figures to be used in a setup role.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Will be part of Opening Day roster

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Hudson "will be in our bullpen," Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. Hudson is attending camp as a non-roster invitee, but Roberts' comments imply that the veteran reliever will be added to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster ahead of the Dodgers' March 20 season opener versus the Padres in South Korea. Though he missed most of the last two seasons with knee issues, Hudson has been healthy thus far in spring training. Hudson hasn't been overly sharp in 3.2 Cactus League innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks, but the Dodgers will bet on the veteran right-hander's track record as they include him in their bullpen.

  • Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Could pitch in Korea series

Hudson (knee) is trending toward being on the active roster for the March 20-21 series against the Padres in South Korea, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated Friday that Hudson still needs to refine his execution after missing most of the last two seasons with knee issues. However, it does not appear there are any physical limitations for Hudson at this juncture. The veteran reliever is in camp as a non-roster invitee, but it sounds like the Dodgers fully intend to add him to the 26-man roster.
