  • Dominic Leone: Retiring from baseball

Leone announced his retirement from professional baseball last week, Scott Eisberg of WCIV in Charleston reports. Leone's 2024 season ended when he was diagnosed with a UCL sprain in his right elbow. It's not clear whether he underwent surgery, but either way the 33-year-old has decided against pitching again after he recovers. Leone appeared in parts of 11 major-league seasons for nine different teams, finishing with a 3.94 ERA and 444:192 K:BB over 429 innings.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Has UCL sprain, done for season

The White Sox diagnosed Leone with a UCL sprain in his right elbow and placed him on the 60-day injured list Friday. Leone was lifted from Wednesday's game with soreness in his right elbow and further testing revealed he suffered a UCL sprain. Instead of attempting to rush him back during the closing weeks of a lost season, the White Sox opted to place Leone on the 60-day injured list, ending his 2024 campaign. The 32-year-old appeared in 23 games for Chicago, logging a 6.63 ERA and 17:14 K:BB across 19.0 innings. Matt Foster (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Exits with sore elbow

Leone was removed from Wednesday's game against the Yankees due to right elbow soreness, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Leone was only able to get through one-third of an inning before his elbow forced him out of the game, during which he gave up two earned runs on two hits and two walks. He'll head in for further evaluation Thursday, at which point the White Sox will have a better idea of how long the 32-year-old will be sidelined.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Activated from IL

The White Sox reinstated Leone (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Monday. Leone had been on the shelf since May 20 due to right elbow inflammation, but he'll slot back into the White Sox bullpen after making four rehab appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. Before he was shut down with the injury, Leone compiled a 7.04 ERA in 15.1 innings. He'll likely have to settle for low-leverage work out of the bullpen now that he's healthy again.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Scheduled to pitch Wednesday

Leone (elbow) is scheduled to make a rehab appearance with Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, MLB.com reports. Leone, sidelined since May 20, has been cleared to return to game action. It's unclear how long his rehab stint will last, but it appears he has the chance to return by late July or early August.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Gets green light for rehab stint

Leone (elbow) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte within the next day or two, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. White Sox manager Pedro Grifol confirmed Monday that the right-hander would report to Triple-A for his first action since being placed on the injured list May 24 with right elbow inflammation. Leone will need at least a few innings of work in the minors before being activated.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Nearing rehab assignment

Leone (elbow) has begun the ramp-up process and could begin a rehab assignment during the week of July 22, MLB.com reports. Leone has been sidelined since May 24 and has managed only 15.1 total innings this season. He should require only a couple of rehab appearances before rejoining the White Sox's bullpen.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Moves to 60-day IL

The White Sox transferred Leone (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday. Leone was deactivated in late May due to right elbow inflammation, and his move to the 60-day IL ensures he'll be sidelined through the All-Star break. As a result of the transaction, Leone will move off the 40-man roster and open up a spot for right-hander Drew Thorpe, whose contract was selected from Double-A Birmingham ahead of his first MLB start Tuesday in Seattle.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Out with elbow inflammation

The White Sox placed Leone on the 15-day injured list Friday with right elbow inflammation. Leone has just rejoined the roster this week after dealing with lower-back tightness, but he'll return to the injured list after making just one appearance for Chicago. It's unclear how long the veteran right-hander is expected to be sidelined.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Rejoins bullpen

The White Sox activated Leone (back) from the 15-day injured list Monday. Leone wound up needing just a minimum stay on the IL with lower-back tightness and will skip a rehab assignment and go right back into the bullpen. The veteran reliever holds a 6.75 ERA and 14:11 K:BB over 14.2 innings this season.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: On cusp of return

Leone (back) appears set to be activated from the 15-day injured list Monday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports. Leone has been on the shelf since May 6 with lower-back tightness, but he looks primed to be back in Chicago's bullpen after the minimum 15-day stay on the injured list. Right-hander Brad Keller was designated for assignment Sunday, opening a spot on the major-league roster for Leone once he's activated.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Lands on IL with back injury

The White Sox placed Leone on the 15-day injured list Monday with lower-back tightness. Leone tweaked his back during an appearance Saturday in St. Louis and now will be on the shelf for at least the next couple weeks. The veteran reliever holds a 6.75 ERA and 14:11 K:BB over 14.2 relief innings with the White Sox this season.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Battling back tightness

Leone was removed from Saturday's game against the Cardinals due to lower-back tightness, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Leone entered the game in the eighth inning and was only able to face one batter -- a five-pitch walk to Nolan Arenado -- before coming out of the game. The team officially labeled Leone as day-to-day, so his injury doesn't seem to be too severe, but the 32-year-old righty may take a few days off before pitching again.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Opening Wednesday's game

Leone will serve as the White Sox's opening pitcher for Wednesday's game versus Atlanta, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. The White Sox didn't name a No. 5 starter heading into Opening Day, but that void has since been filled by Mike Clevinger, who signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the club Monday. However, because Clevinger didn't participate in spring training and will require a ramp-up period before he's ready to make his season debut, the White Sox will opt for a bullpen day Wednesday in what would have been his first turn through the rotation. Expect Leone to work no more than one or two innings before giving way to a parade of relievers, with Tanner Banks being the most likely candidate to operate as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen if the White Sox elect to go that route.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Added to roster

The White Sox selected Leone's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Leone was in camp as a non-roster invitee but made the team after giving up just two earned runs over eight innings this spring. The veteran reliever could even find himself in high-leverage spots as part of a bullpen that lacks clarity.

  • White Sox's Dominic Leone: Signs as non-roster invitee

Leone signed a minor-league contract with White Sox on Tuesday which includes an invitation to major-league spring training, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The veteran right-hander made 51 appearances between the Mariners, Angels and Mets last season but scuffled to a 4.67 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 54:28 K:BB over 54 innings. Leone posted a 1.51 ERA with three saves and 15 holds in 57 outings for the Giants in 2021, but his 1.51 WHIP across the past two seasons is likely to be more indicative of his 2024 performance, if he makes Chicago's roster.

  • Angels' Dominic Leone: Waived by Halos

The Angels placed Leone on waivers Tuesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. Leone put up a 5.25 ERA and 1.83 WHIP across 12 innings since being acquired from the Mets at the trade deadline, and he'll now join five other Angels on the waiver wire as the team attempts to cut salary. Any team in search of bullpen depth will be able to simply claim the 31-year-old righty off waivers and add him to their active roster.

  • Angels' Dominic Leone: Acquired by Angels

The Mets traded Leone to the Angels on Tuesday in exchange for infielder Jeremiah Jackson, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Leone's overall numbers don't look great, but he's pitched to a 1.80 ERA over his last 12 appearances dating back to late June. The 31-year-old right-hander will likely slide into a middle-relief role with the playoff-hopeful Halos.

  • Mets' Dominic Leone: Tagged with second loss

Leone (0-2) took the loss Sunday against the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on two hits over 1.1 innings in a 6-4 defeat. After the Mets tied the game in the sixth inning, Leone surrendered a two-run homer to Brandon Belt that would prove to be the difference in the loss. The 31-year-old Leone had been pitching well prior to Sunday, delivering four consecutive scoreless appearances while punching out seven over 4.1 innings. He now sports a 5.40 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB across 13.1 innings this season.
