Rangers' Jacob Latz: Tagged for homer in blown save
Latz (3-3) allowed a run on one hit and struck out one without walking a batter over one inning to take the loss and a blown save in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Red Sox.
Latz was called upon in the eighth inning to clean up a mess created by Jakob Junis but couldn't meet the challenge. Trevor Story took him deep for a three-run home run, and the Rangers weren't able to respond. With six runs allowed (five earned) over his last 8.1 innings, Latz is limping to the finish line this season. He still has strong numbers overall, going 30-for-34 in save chances with three holds while pitching to a 2.11 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 77:22 K:BB through 68.1 innings.

Rangers' Jacob Latz: Picks up 30th save
Latz earned the save Tuesday against the Red Sox, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three over 1.2 innings.
Latz preserved the lead and secured the five-out save, his first save of over three outs since Aug. 15. The 30-year-old struck out Andruw Monasterio to escape a bases-loaded jam in the eighth, then punched out two more in the ninth for his 30th save. The southpaw sports a 2.00 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 76:22 K:BB over 67.1 innings this season.

Tasked with protecting a three-run lead, Latz played with fire by surrendering a pair of RBI doubles, though he ultimately shut the door and secured the victory. Sunday marked the southpaw's second save of September and 29th of the campaign in 32 attempts. Latz owns a strong 2.06 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 73:21 K:BB over 65.2 frames.

Latz struck out both batters he faced to earn the save in Tuesday's 8-5 victory over the Athletics.
The Rangers entered the ninth with an 8-3 advantage, but Trevor Williams gave up a two-run homer to Jeff McNeil and plunked Donovan Walton before Latz was summoned with one out. The left-hander immediately stopped the rally, striking out Darell Hernaiz and Henry Bolte en route to securing his 28th save of the campaign. Latz needed only eight pitches to record the final two outs and lowered his ERA to 1.63. This was his eighth consecutive scoreless appearance and he's posted a 16:6 K:BB across 9.2 innings during that span.

Latz was summoned with a three-run lead and retired Milwaukee in order on 12 pitches (seven strikes). Latz earned the save Sunday against the Angels, allowing one hit and issuing one walk while striking out two over a scoreless ninth inning.
Latz was unsurprisingly called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth but immediately ran into trouble when Christian Moore lined a leadoff double. Mike Trout was intentionally walked later in the frame, bringing the winning run to the plate, but Latz escaped the threat to secure his 26th save. The left-hander hasn't allowed a run over his last eight innings, collecting five saves with a 13:6 K:BB during that span. Latz owns an excellent 1.68 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 65:18 K:BB across 59 innings this season.

Latz entered in the bottom of the 10th inning with Texas up 4-1. Latz was asked to protect a one-run advantage for the final two frames and ultimately converted his 22nd save of the season, though the ninth inning provided some drama. Baltimore put the potential tying run in scoring position before Christian Franklin singled to right, but Brandon Nimmo threw Leody Taveras out at the plate. Latz clinched the save by striking out Christian Encarnacion-Strand to end the game. Latz has been reliable all season long for Texas, posting a 1.87 ERA and converting 22 of his 25 save chances.

Latz struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his 18th save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Guardians.
The southpaw continues to dominate as the Rangers' closer. Latz was scored upon in only one of 12 June appearances, posting a 1.13 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB over 16 innings on the month while converting all 11 of his save chances. Despite not picking up his first save until late April, Latz sits third in the AL in the category, behind Cleveland's Cade Smith (26) and Tampa Bay's Bryan Baker (21).
