Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Loses roster spot
The Mariners optioned Canzone to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Canzone had started just seven of 18 games since coming off the injured list earlier this month and went just 3-for-26 at the plate over that stretch. With Julio Rodriguez able to play center field again and Victor Robles sliding over to right field, Canzone's playing time was likely only going to dwindle further had he stuck around with Seattle.

The lefty-hitting Canzone will take a seat Saturday with the lefty-throwing Blake Snell set to toe the slab for San Francisco. Randy Arozarena, Victor Robles and Julio Rodriguez will start across the outfield while Mitch Haniger serves as Seattle's designated hitter.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Absent from lineup
Canzone is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Dodgers.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Belts eighth homer Sunday
Canzone went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in a win over the Pirates on Sunday.
Canzone ended a 17-game home-run drought with his 416-foot shot to center field in the fifth inning, which extended the Mariners' lead to 8-0 at the time. In the process, Canzone also snapped an 0-for-8 slump that had encompassed his previous four games, and Sunday's homer served as only his third hit in the 18 plate appearances he's logged since coming off the injured list Aug. 9.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Sitting Saturday

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: On bench again Wednesday
Canzone is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Since being activated from the 10-day injured list, the lefty-hitting Canzone has started in just one of the Mariners' ensuing six games. He hasn't been helped by the fact that the Mariners have faced five left-handed starters or primary pitchers during that stretch, but Canzone's opportunities against right-handed pitching could be somewhat limited moving forward with Julio Rodriguez having recently returned from the injured list and fellow outfielder Victor Rojas having solidified himself as an everyday player.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Productive in return to lineup
Canzone went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run in a win over the Mets on Sunday.
Canzone started in right field, his first time back in the opening lineup since being activated from the injured list Friday. The outfielder commemorated the occasion by swatting his first extra-base hits since July 9, but with Randy Arozarena arriving at the deadline and Victor Robles working himself into a regular outfield role while Canzone was on the shelf, the latter's prospects for regular playing time are murky at the moment.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Activated from 10-day IL
Canzone (thigh) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.
Canzone will make his return to the major-league roster after missing nearly a month of action due to a right adductor strain. The 26-year-old produced a .375 average with three home runs, a double, six RBI and five runs scored over his six games with Triple-A Tacoma during his rehab assignment. Although he's not in the lineup Thursday, Canzone will likely step back into his starting role in right field as soon as Friday against the Mets.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Full rehab game Tuesday
Canzone (thigh) played all nine innings in left field during Triple-A Tacoma's win over Reno on Tuesday, going 1-for-5.
Canzone reached another benchmark in his recovery with Tuesday's full game on defense, and he managed to extend his hitting streak during his rehab assignment to five games. Per the Associated Press, Canzone could be deemed ready for activation from the IL before the end of the Mariners' current homestand, which concludes Sunday.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Productive weekend in minors
Canzone (thigh) started both of Triple-A Tacoma's games against Sacramento on Saturday and Sunday, going a combined 5-for-8 with a double, two home runs, three RBI, a walk and four total runs.
Canzone has now played rehab games on four consecutive days, and Saturday, he logged his most extensive assignment on defense yet with a seven-inning stint in left field. The 26-year-old's pair of weekend round-trippers also imply his timing at the plate is coming along well, leaving him poised for potential activation in coming days.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Plays in second straight rehab game
Canzone (thigh) started in right field and played five innings in Triple-A Tacoma's loss to Sacramento on Friday, going 1-for-3.
The five-inning appearance was the second in as many rehab games for Canzone, who clearly tolerated Thursday's initial workload well. The recovering outfielder has six minor-league plate appearances under his belt thus far, and he may only need a handful more games with the Rainiers before being deemed ready for activation. However, what Canzone's playing time will look like once he's off the IL remains to be seen, given the Mariners acquired Randy Arozarena, who's handling an everyday role in right field.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Begins rehab assignment
Canzone (adductor) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, going 1-for-3 while playing five innings in left field.
The Mariners had previously indicated that Canzone was expected to return from the injured list in mid-August, but he now seems to have a shot to be activated a little quicker than that. He's been out since early July with a right adductor strain.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Trending toward mid-August return
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Wednesday that Canzone (adductor) is expected to return from the 10-day injured list around the middle of August, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
The target return date Hollander offered up more or less aligns with comments from manager Scott Servais over the weekend, when the skipper said Canzone was a couple weeks away from starting a rehab assignment. Canzone has been on the shelf since July 10 with a right adductor strain, an injury he sustained three days earlier while making a diving catch against the Blue Jays. Victor Robles had been seeing reps in right field following Canzone's placement on the shelf, but with Robles likely to be needed in center field more frequently after Julio Rodriguez (ankle) landed on the IL on Tuesday, Mitch Haniger and Cade Marlowe look to be the main candidates to pick up starts in right.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Not ready for IL return
Canzone (thigh), who is first eligible to return from the injured list Saturday, is still recovering according to manager Scott Servais and remains multiple weeks away from beginning a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports.
The fact the outfielder won't have a minimum-length stay on the IL is unsurprising, given the nature of his injury and the fact there haven't been any reports of Canzone engaging in any type of baseball activities yet. Servais estimated Friday that Canzone is still at least a couple weeks away from being sent down to an affiliate for a rehab assignment, and that timeline could naturally be extended if his recovery doesn't start gathering some momentum soon. While Canzone remains sidelined, Victor Robles could continue drawing the bulk of starts in right field, although Mitch Haniger and Jonatan Clase are also candidates to occasionally slot in.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Placed on IL with adductor strain
The Mariners placed Canzone on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right adductor strain.
Canzone initially suffered the injury during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Blue Jays while making a catch and then aggravated it while running in Tuesday's 8-3 win. He'll be eligible to return from the IL shortly after the All-Star break, but it's uncertain whether Canzone will be ready for activation at that time.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Nursing groin injury
Canzone exited Tuesday's win over the Padres after feeling discomfort in his groin while running, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Canzone said he initially suffered the injury while making a catch during Sunday's contest, and it flared up in the fifth frame Tuesday while running to second base on a double. He's slated to receive an MRI on Wednesday, which will help determine his availability for Seattle's final stretch of games before the All-Star break.

Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Removed early Tuesday
Canzone was removed from Tuesday's game against the Padres with a possible injury, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
The Mariners haven't yet provided an official reason for Canzone's early exit, but the 26-year-old outfielder did appear to be in some pain while running after hitting a double in the fifth inning. He'll head into the clubhouse for further evaluation, and more information on his status should be released in the near future.
