  • Mariners' Brock Rodden: Sitting against lefty again

Rodden is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

A switch hitter, Rodden posted a .679 OPS versus lefties and an .884 OPS versus righties at Triple-A Tacoma this season before being promoted to Seattle on Aug. 14. Those wide splits have persisted in limited action in the majors thus far, with Rodden submitting a .544 OPS versus lefties and a .675 OPS against righties through his first 18 games with Seattle. He'll hit the bench for a second game in a row while the Athletics send another lefty (Gage Jump) to the hill.

  • Mariners' Brock Rodden: Heading to bench Monday

Rodden is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Weston Wilson will enter the starting nine at third base in place of Rodden. The switch-hitting infielder had been included in the lineup in each of the Mariners' last six games, going 0-for-16 with a 2:4 BB:K during that stretch.

  • Mariners' Brock Rodden: Getting breather Saturday

Rodden isn't starting Saturday against the Cubs.

Rodden started seven straight contests at shortstop after getting called up Aug. 14, but he'll hit the bench Saturday despite holding his own with a .250/.321/.417 slash line and three RBI during his time in the big leagues so far. Leo Rivas is stepping in to start at shortstop Saturday.

  • Mariners' Brock Rodden: Handling everyday role at shortstop

Rodden will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Since being called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Rodden has started at shortstop in each of the Mariners' ensuing five games. Rodden has gotten off to a nice start to his big-league career by going 4-for-13 with two doubles, three walks, three RBI and two runs, but his playing time will likely fall by the wayside once J.P. Crawford (wrist) returns from the injured list. Crawford is slated to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A on Thursday and could be ready to rejoin the Mariners within a week.

  • Mariners' Brock Rodden: Contract selected

The Mariners selected Rodden's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Rodden will come up from the minors to replace Colt Emerson, who landed on the injured list Friday with a wrist injury. Rodden, 26, has spent the entire season at Triple-A, slashing .261/.342/.497 with 19 homers, 65 RBI, 53 runs scored and eight steals over 92 games. He'll start at shortstop and bat ninth Friday in what will be his MLB debut.
