Winter Meetings Update: Dodgers Sign Edwin Diaz To 3-Yr, $69M Deal

Top Rockies News

  • Rockies' Eiberson Castellano: Inks minors deal with Rockies

The Rockies signed Castellano to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Castellano was taken by the Twins in the Rule 5 Draft last offseason before being returned to the Phillies. The 24-year-old held a 5.40 ERA and 39:14 K:BB over 35 innings in 2025 at Double-A Reading.

  • Rockies' Charlie Condon: Could compete for 1B job

Condon could get the chance to compete for the Rockies' everyday first base job during spring training, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

After moving both Warming Bernabel and Michael Toglia off the 40-man roster during the offseason, the Rockies are now without both of their primary options at first base from 2025. Blaine Crim and waiver pickup Troy Johnston reached the majors for the first time in 2025 and could operate in a platoon at first base, but both players are on their second organizations and are entering their age-29 campaigns, making it unlikely that they're viewed as anything more than stopgaps at the position. Barring any outside additions, Condon -- one of the organization's top prospects -- thus appears likely to get his first look in the big leagues at some point in 2026, and it's not out of the question for him to force his way onto the Opening Day roster with a strong showing in spring training. The 22-year-old slashed .266/.379/.447 with 14 home runs and a 12.6 percent walk rate in 90 games last season between High-A Spokane and Double-A Hartford and continued to thrive in the Arizona Fall League, where he posted an .873 OPS in 22 games.

  • Rockies' John Brebbia: Grabs NRI pact from Colorado

The Rockies signed Brebbia to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training Monday, Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette reports.

Brebbia concluded the 2025 season with an ugly 7.71 ERA, though he did notch 26 strikeouts over 23.1 frames during his time with Detroit and Atlanta. The 35-year-old has a decent chance of cracking the Rockies' Opening Day roster as a middle reliever.

  • Rockies' Nicky Lopez: Nets NRI deal with Rockies

The Rockies signed Lopez to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training Monday, Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette reports.

Lopez spent most of the 2025 season in the minors but did see action in 18 games between the Cubs and Angels, going just 1-for-24 at the plate. Most of Lopez's experience is at second base, and the Rockies have an opening at that position, but if the 30-year-old manages to crack the Opening Day roster, it will likely be in a reserve infielder role.

  • Rockies' Brayan Castillo: Stays with Rockies as NRI

The Rockies re-signed Castillo to a minor-league contract Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Chase Ford of Milb Central reports.

Castillo split the 2025 season between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque, holding a 2.94 ERA and 64:27 K:BB over 52 innings. The 25-year-old has never pitched at the big-league level but will get an opportunity in spring training to compete for a job in the Rockies' bullpen.

  • Rockies' Parker Mushinski: Gets NRI deal from Rockies

The Rockies signed Mushinski to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training Monday, Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette reports.

Mushinski spent the entirety of the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Columbus in the Guardians organization, holding a 3.78 ERA and 66:33 K:BB over 50 innings. The lefty reliever has made 31 appearances at the big-league level, collecting a 5.45 ERA and 26:12 K:BB across 33 frames. Mushinski will compete for a spot in Colorado's Opening Day bullpen but will likely begin the year at Triple-A Albuquerque.

  • Rockies' Adam Laskey: Joins Colorado on MiLB deal

Laskey agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Sunday, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports.

Laskey spent 2025 in the Marlins organization and split his time between the Double-A and Triple-A levels. He received an invitation to big-league spring training but is likely to open 2026 in the minors based on his production last year and the fact that he's yet to make his MLB debut.

  • Rockies' Drew Avans: Nets MiLB deal with Rockies

The Rockies signed Avans to a minor-league contract Nov. 14.

Avans got his feet wet at the major-league level in 2025, going 2-for-17 in eight games between the Athletics and Brewers. The 29-year-old outfielder with provide organizational depth at Triple-A Albuquerque.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Removed from 40-man roster

The Rockies designated Rolison for assignment Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Rolison was a first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, but he hasn't been able to perform to that pedigree. The lefty had been buried in the minors until last season, when he got into 31 games with Colorado and pitched to an ugly 7.02 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 42.1 innings. Rolison's 25:20 K:BB paints a pretty clear picture of how much he struggled to get big-league batters out, and the Rockies now appear set to move on.

  • Rockies' Sterlin Thompson: Avoids Rule 5 Draft

The Rockies selected Thompson's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Thompson was the 31st overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft. He reached Triple-A for the first time last season and posted a .911 OPS with 18 home runs, 66 RBI and 12 stolen bases over 513 plate appearances. Thompson also showed solid plate discipline with a 10.8 percent walk rate and 20.9 percent strikeout rate. He played infield earlier in his minor-league career but seems to have settled into a role in left field. He seems likely to make his big-league debut in 2026.

  • Rockies' Gabriel Hughes: Protected from Rule 5 Draft

The Rockies selected Hughes' contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Hughes is a 24-year-old right-handed starter who got his first taste of Triple-A action last season. He struggled at that level, posting a 5.11 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 48:29 K:BB over 61.2 innings spanning 14 starts, but he showed more promise at Double-A prior to his promotion, recording a 3.07 ERA and 0.85 WHIP across nine starts. Hughes was the 10th overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, and he underwent Tommy John surgery in July of 2023. The Rockies clearly still see him as an eventual part of their rotation given that they chose to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft.

  • Rockies' Welinton Herrera: Placed on 40-man roster

The Rockies selected Herrera's contract from Double-A Hartford on Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Herrera is a lefty hurler who advanced to Double-A for the first time last season. Over 37 relief appearances at that level, he posted a 70:19 K:BB over 46.1 innings along with a 3.69 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Herrera notched a combined 16 saves between High-A and Double-A in 2025, and the Rockies may be eyeing him as a future closer at the major-league level.

  • Rockies' Brennan Bernardino: Moved to Rockies

The Red Sox traded Bernardino (lat) to Colorado on Tuesday in exchange for Braiden Ward, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Bernardino enjoyed a strong 2025 season with Boston, posting a 3.14 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 43:26 K:BB over 51.2 innings while notching one save and two holds. The southpaw ended the campaign on the IL due to a strained lat, but there's no reason at this point to think that the injury will affect his availability for the start of spring training. Bernardino should immediately become a key member of a Rockies bullpen that ranked second-to-last in the majors with a 5.18 ERA last year.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: DFA'd by Colorado

The Rockies designated Toglia for assignment Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Toglia looked like he was set to be Colorado's first baseman of the future heading into last season, when he opened as the team's primary first baseman. However, the 2019 first-round draft pick struggled mightily during his time in the majors, posting a .190/.258/.353 slash line with a 39.2 percent strikeout rate. While Toglia flashed big power with 25 homers across 457 plate appearances in 2024 and went deep 11 times across 42 games with Triple-A Albuquerque last season, his poor contact against major-league pitching ultimately led to his removal from the Rockies' 40-man roster.

... See More ... See Less
  • Rockies' Garrett Acton: Claimed by Rockies

The Rockies claimed Acton off waivers from the Rays on Thursday.

Acton posted a 3.68 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 58.2 innings at Triple-A Durham in 2025, which is evidently enough for the Rockies to feel comfortable adding him to a very weak pitching staff. Colorado's lack of depth gives the 27-year-old a decent chance to break spring training with the big club; otherwise, he'll report to Triple-A Albuquerque.

... See More ... See Less
  • Rockies' Troy Johnston: Goes to Rockies via waivers

The Rockies claimed Johnston off waivers from the Marlins on Wednesday.

Johnston reached the majors for the first time in 2025 as a 28-year-old and fared well, slashing .277/.331/.420 with four home runs over 121 plate appearances. He can play first base and the corner outfield spots and should have a decent path to playing time on a talent-deficient Rockies roster.

  • Rockies' Thairo Estrada: Mutual option declined

Colorado declined its $7 million mutual option on Estrada (hamstring) for the 2026 season Monday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Harding notes that Estrada is eligible for arbitration, so he'll remain under club control for the moment. Estrada appeared in only 39 games in 2025 due to various injuries, including a hamstring issue that forced him to be shut down for nearly the last two months of season. He slashed .253/.285/.370 with three home runs, 21 RBI, one stolen base and 14 runs scored.
