Top 76ers News

  • 76ers' Jeff Dowtin: Used sparingly in loss

Dowtin posted zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt), two rebounds and one assist in four minutes during Wednesday's 114-106 loss to Cleveland.

Dowtin suited up for the fourth straight game, albeit for just four minutes. Having played at least 20 minutes in each of the two previous games, Dowtin had been serving as a consistent piece in the rotation. However, given he has played fewer than five minutes in each of the other four games in which he has suited up, it would seem as though the coaching staff are only going to call on him as a last resort.

  • 76ers' Guerschon Yabusele: Flirts with double-double in start

Yabusele supplied 10 points (4-10 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, five assists and one steal across 31 minutes during Wednesday's 114-106 loss to Cleveland.

Yabusele moved into the starting lineup, filling for Joel Embiid who was given the night off as part of his injury management plan. With Andre Drummond also sidelined due to illness, it was Yabusele who served as the primary center option, playing at least 30 minutes for just the third time this season. Embiid will likely return for the next game but given the struggles of Drummond, there is a chance Yabusele moves ahead of him in the rotation at some point in the near future.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Explodes for career-high 38 points

McCain produced 34 points (12-26 FG, 6-13 3Pt, 4-4 FT), two rebounds, 10 assists and two steals over 38 minutes during Wednesday's 114-106 loss to Cleveland.

McCain continues to dominate on the offensive end, casually landing a career-high 38 points, while chipping in double-digit assists for the first time. The 76ers were without their three key pieces, affording McCain a ton of playing time. He has scored at least 23 points in three straight games and although this run will likely come to an abrupt end at some point, he is someone to monitor moving forward.

  • 76ers' Guerschon Yabusele: Starting vs. Cleveland

Yabusele is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cavaliers.

The 76ers will be without Joel Embiid (knee) and Andre Drummond (illness), so Yabusele will get the nod at center, making his first start of the season. The big man has been playing well of late and has scored in double digits in three of his last five outings.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Earns first career start

McCain is part of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cavaliers.

McCain has received at least 30 minutes in three straight games and averaged 22.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists on 45.1 percent shooting from the field. With Paul George (knee) sidelined Wednesday, the 76ers will reward McCain's recent success and give him a spot in the first unit. He'll slot in alongside Kyle Lowry in the backcourt.

  • 76ers' Paul George: Out Wednesday, will play Friday

George (knee) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game versus Cleveland, but head coach Nick Nurse said that the forward will play Friday against the Magic while operating without a minutes restriction, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.

George had already logged 33 and 32 minutes in his last two games, but he could see his playing time push into the mid-to-upper 30s Friday if the contest is competitive throughout. Though he missed the 76ers' first five games of the season, George returned to play each of the last five contests and averaged 17.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.2 three-pointers and 2.0 steals.

  • 76ers' Andre Drummond: Officially ruled out

Drummond (illness) will not play Wednesday versus Cleveland, Derek Bodner of AllPHLY.com reports.

Drummond was trending in the wrong direction when he was added to Wednesday afternoon's injury report, and the big man will now join Joel Embiid (knee/injury management) on the sideline. Guerschon Yabusele will continue anchoring an undersized Philadelphia frontcourt.

  • 76ers' Andre Drummond: Battling illness

Drummond is questionable for Wednesday's game against Cleveland due to an illness.

Drummond entered Wednesday with a clean bill of health, however, his status to face one of his former teams is now in jeopardy. Drummond has had inconsistent usage en route to averaging 9.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in 22.5 minutes across his last five contests, but his presence would likely be missed against Cleveland's frontcourt, especially with Joel Embiid (knee/rest) sitting out the second half of a back-to-back set.

  • 76ers' Paul George: Won't play Wednesday

George has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Cavaliers due to left knee injury management, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

George and Joel Embiid (knee) will both rest for the second half of Philadelphia's back-to-back set, opening up plenty of minutes for several other player. In Tuesday's 111-99 loss to the Knicks, George had his best game of the season, posting 29 points (10-19 FG, 7-11 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block in 32 minutes. George should return to action Friday in Orlando.

  • 76ers' Joel Embiid: Out for second leg of back-to-back

Embiid won't play Wednesday against the Cavaliers due to left knee injury management, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

As expected, Embiid will be held out of the second leg of a back-to-back set after he made his season debut in Tuesday's 111-99 loss to the Knicks following a six-game absence due to the left knee injury followed by a three-game suspension. President of basketball operations Daryl Morey had suggested prior to the start of the season that Embiid will play only one game of back-to-back sets for the foreseeable future. The 76ers are also holding out Paul George (knee) for rest Wednesday, so players such as Kelly Oubre, Jared McCain and Andre Drummond could dominate the usage for Philadelphia. Embiid should be back in action Friday in Orlando and will likely have his playing-time restriction loosened a bit after he logged 26 minutes Tuesday.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Big night off bench

McCain posted 23 points (7-16 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 5-5 FT), three rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes off the bench during Tuesday's 111-99 loss to the Knicks.

The 16th overall pick in the 2024 Draft topped 20 points for the second straight game while draining at least three three-pointers for the third consecutive contest. McCain has quickly earned a significant role on the Sixers' second unit, and through six games in November, he's averaging 15.8 points, 2.3 threes, 2.2 boards and 1.7 assists in 20.7 minutes a contest.

  • 76ers' Caleb Martin: Four more steals in Tuesday's loss

Martin finished with 17 points (7-10 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, three assists and four steals over 36 minutes during Tuesday's 111-99 loss to the Knicks.

The 29-year-old forward tied his season highs in scoring and pilfers, and Martin has posted both his four-steal performances in the last two games. He maintained a heavy workload Tuesday even with Joel Embiid and Paul George both in the lineup for the first time this season, but Martin will likely see his minutes decline once Embiid is fully up to speed. Through 10 games and nine starts to begin the campaign, he's averaging a career-high 34.1 minutes a contest while producing 11.0 points, 5.6 boards, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals - all personal bests if they were maintained for an entire campaign.

  • 76ers' Joel Embiid: Looks rusty in season debut

Embiid logged 13 points (2-11 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 8-8 FT), three rebounds, five assists and one block in 26 minutes during Tuesday's 111-99 loss to the Knicks.

Seeing his first action of the season after overcoming a knee injury and serving a three-game suspension, Embiid was on a minutes restriction and wasn't in peak form. It's not clear how quickly the Sixers are willing to ramp things up with their franchise player, but the 30-year-old center isn't likely to be in the lineup for the second night of a back-to-back Wednesday against the Cavaliers. His next chance to increase his workload should come Friday in Orlando, as Philly begins a brief three-game southern road trip.

  • 76ers' Paul George: Pops for 29 in Tuesday's loss

George supplied a game-high 29 points (10-19 FG, 7-11 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals in 32 minutes during Tuesday's 111-99 loss to the Knicks.

Joel Embiid made his season debut for the Sixers on Tuesday, but it was George who led the team in scoring and rebounding. The veteran forward needed a few games to get his legs under him after his own belated start to the season, but while George's offense has been inconsistent, he's found other ways to contribute. Through five contests, the 34-year-old is averaging 17.2 points and 2.2 threes while shooting 42.5 percent from the floor and 30.6 percent from beyond the arc, but he's added 5.8 boards, 5.2 assists and 2.0 steals a game.

  • 76ers' Andre Drummond: Retreats to bench Tuesday

Drummond will slide to the bench in Tuesday's game against the Knicks.

With Joel Embiid making his season debut, Drummond will revert back to his normal role off the bench. The big man has averaged 9.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals across 26.1 minutes per game in nine regular-season outings (all starts).
