Mahomes' magic continues

The AFC West was supposed to be the toughest division in football -- the Chiefs the slight favorite yet vulnerable against three teams that made major acquisitions during free agency. Through seven weeks, Kansas City is once again a few notches above the rest. And it mostly comes down to Patrick Mahomes, who erupted for 423 passing yards and three touchdowns on just 25 completions as the Chiefs put up 44 points on the 49ers in a blowout victory.

Walker says goodbye

There's a chance the Seahawks could have the offensive and defensive rookies of the year in cornerback Tariq Woolen (NFL-leading four interceptions) and running back Kenneth Walker III. For the second time in three games, the 41st overall pick has ripped off a 69-yard touchdown run -- this one putting the exclamation point on the Seahawks' fourth win of 2022.

Four in a row

The Jets (yes, the Jets!) are tied for the second-best record in the AFC after grinding out a 16-9 win over the Broncos. It wasn't pretty offensively, but the young defense allowed a touchdown and a field goal against backup quarterback Brett Rypien to come away with the team's fourth straight victory.

Mahomes: 'You can't stop me'

The 49ers have been hopeless against Patrick Mahomes. Just when they cut the lead back down to five, Mahomes led a scoring drive in just 2 minutes, 48 seconds. Make that three touchdowns for Mecole Hardman.

49ers: 'Not so fast my friend'

Just when you thought the Chiefs were going to blow out the 49ers, San Francisco has life! An impressive eight-play, 75-yard drive ended with an impressive throw from Jimmy Garoppolo and an impressive leaping catch from George Kittle. Still plenty of time for the 49ers to retake the lead ... but they'll have to stop Mahomes to do it.

Chiefs running away from 49ers

A 24-20 loss to the Bills wasn't ideal, but the Chiefs are still one of the best teams in the NFL. They've shown as much Sunday. After going down 10-0, Kansas City has outscored San Francisco, 28-6 since to take a commanding lead late in the third quarter. Patrick Mahomes has been very solid since an opening drive interception, throwing for nearly 300 yards and a pair of scores.

Josh Jacobs is unstoppable

Josh Jacobs is on an absolute tear the past three weeks. Twenty-eight carries for 144 yards and two touchdowns against the Broncos, 21 carries for 154 yards and a touchdown versus the Chiefs, and now 20 carries for 143 yards and three touchdowns against the Texans. The Raiders declined Jacobs fifth-year option before the season, but he's certainly been running like a first-round running back so far this season.

CEH to the crib

The biggest piece of Chiefs news pregame was the NFL Media report that seventh-round rookie Isiah Pacheco would start against the 49ers instead of Clyde Edwards-Helaire. But through two and a half quarters, labels haven't really mattered. Edwards-Helaire has outgained Pacheco thus far and scored a 16-yard touchdown in the first half.

Anotha one for Marquise Goodwin

Marquise Goodwin has mostly been a non-factor in Seattle's passing game this season. He's totaled just 10 targets in five games, catching six of them for 79 yards. But against the Chargers on Sunday, he had perhaps the best half of his nine-year NFL career. He's amassed four catches (on four targets) for 67 yards and a pair of scores -- which already matches his career high. And there's still 30 minutes of football left to play.

Jimmy INT

Skyy Moore's muffed punt gave the 49ers a prime opportunity to go ahead before halftime, but Jimmy Garoppolo just gave that chance away. His YOLO ball on third-and-3 from the five deserved to be intercepted by Joshua Williams at the goal line. It's hard enough to beat the Chiefs; it's extremely difficult when turning the ball over in the red zone.

Mecole Hardman x2

Without Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman is perhaps the Chiefs' most explosive offensive weapon. He's been a significant factor in the first half Sunday, with his speed and agility leading to both of Kansas City's touchdowns.

Carr threads the needle

It's do or die for the Raiders. A loss would drop them to 1-5, essentially eliminating any postseason hopes. Derek Carr realizes this, and made a great throw before halftime when he hit Mack Hollins in between two defenders for the game-tying 26-yard touchdown.

Seattle defense strikes twice

Is the Seahawks defense ... decent? It couldn't stop anything to start the season, but it hasn't allowed a touchdown over the past five quarters. First it held the Cardinals to nine points in a 10-point victory, and now its containing the high-octane Chargers offense, forcing a fumble and an interception along the way. With the way quarterback Geno Smith has played so far this year, Seattle's defense only has to be decent for this team to be a wild-card contender.

Breece Hall breaks free (again)

It seems like every game that Breece Hall breaks off a big gain. He had a 79-yard reception in the Jets' win over Miami two weeks ago, then ripped off a 34-yard run in a victory against Green Bay last week. So don't be surprised that the second-round rookie took the first-quarter pitch Sunday, surveyed his running lanes, burst through the crease and ran away from everyone. Sixty-two yards to the house.

Hurdle alert

Travis Kelce just makes everything look so easy, which is even more impressive considering he's 33 years old. The seven-time Pro Bowler casually hurdled 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga in the first quarter en route to a 27-yard pickup.

SO CLOSE

The Giants just continue to play wild games week after week -- and they keep coming out on top! This week, they survived the Jaguars by literally a yard, tackling Christian Kirk just short of the goal line as the clock hit zero. New York is now 6-1, matching the Eagles (6-0) for the most wins by any team in the league.

Packers nearly lateral way to win

Aaron Rodgers is the king of Hail Marys, but the Packers opted for the lateral strategy with five seconds remaining and the ball on their own 46-yard line. What ensued was a successful string of laterals that resulted in Rodgers with the ball at the Commanders' 22-yard line. Rodgers then uncorked a running throw across the field to a WIDE OPEN Jon Runyan Jr. (yes, an offensive lineman), and if Runyan had corralled the ball he might have just rumbled into the end zone to complete the impossible victory. Unfortunately, Rodgers threw a bouncer that went right through the legs of Runyan and out of bounds, ending the game. Green Bay is now 3-4 and has the Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills on deck.

McLaurin clinches the upset!

Taylor Heinicke threw up an absolute prayer as he got crushed on third-and-9, but the Packers couldn't capitalize due to the tenacity of Terry McLaurin. He saw the ball wobbling in the air and pounced, coming back to the pass and making the first-down catch to all but clinch the Commanders' upset victory.

Aaron Jones WOW

Aaron Jones deserves better. One of the most talented running backs in the league has been overshadowed by what's been a highly disappointing offense so far this season. He's tried to put the team on his back Sunday, though, scoring both of Green Bay's touchdowns so far, including this beautiful grab on the wheel route for the 21-yard score.

Saquon the magician

It's so nice to see Saquon Barkley fully healthy again. Just look at this run from the NFL's leading rusher, jumping and hopping and cutting around several Jaguars defenders for an 18-yard pickup. A few plays later, Daniel Jones' QB sneak put the Giants ahead in the final minutes.

Dak's first TD of the season

Definitely not the start Dak Prescott was looking for coming back from injury, but he managed the Cowboys' run-heavy attack while the defense completely shut down Jared Goff (four turnovers) and the Lions. One highlight: Prescott threw his first touchdown pass of the season to put the finishing touches on a 24-6 victory.

P.J. Walker outdueling Tom Brady

P.J. Walker made his fourth career start Sunday. Tom Brady made start No. 323. And yet, Walker has completely outperformed the greatest quarterback of all time as the Panthers are on their way to a shocking victory. The former XFL signal-caller has completed 16 of his 22 passes for 177 yards and two beautiful touchdowns, the second of which all but sealed the Buccaneers' disappointing defeat.

CMC who?

The Panthers' running back duo of D'Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard has gotten the job done against the Buccaneers' stout run defense, combining for 167 yards on just 17 carries and a score. Most of those came on Foreman's 60-yard scamper, and on the next play, Hubbard broke free for the 17-yard touchdown. Panthers are up double digits in the fourth quarter.

Scary Terry!

Remember Terry McLaurin? The Commanders wideout who has averaged more than 1,000 yards receiving per season, despite playing with a hodgepodge of quarterbacks? He's one of the most underrated pass-catchers in the league, and he showed his worth by making a contested catch as he fell across the end zone down the right sideline. All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander was blanketing McLaurin in coverage, but it didn't matter, as Taylor Heinicke's pass was PERFECT for the 37-yard go-ahead score.

Gus Bus

Welcome back, Gus Edwards! Playing for the first time since suffering a torn ACL last preseason, he has fueled the Ravens to the tune of 12 carries for 51 yards and two scores. With J.K. Dobbins set to miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, Edwards figures to play a big role for Baltimore as the season progresses.

Mariota to Byrd for 75-yard BOMB

Not so fast, Bengals! The frisky Falcons are being frisky once again. Despite digging themselves a 28-7 hole, they climbed back to within nine after this long touchdown from Marcus Mariota to Damiere Byrd and then a last-second field goal from Younghoe Koo.

End zone fumble

Life comes at you fast. Instead of rumbling in for his first multi-touchdown game in his young career, Jaguars running back Travis Etienne got careless with the football at the Giants' five-yard line. Xavier McKinney capitalized by jarring the ball loose, and fellow safety Julian Love scooped it up in the end zone to keep Jacksonville from extending its lead.

Panthers shocking Bucs

The Panthers, with their head coach fired and their star running back shipped to San Francisco, are ahead of Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the half. It was this score, from P.J. Walker to D.J. Moore, that put them there.

FLIPPED

Any time a player gets flipped, we have to cover it here (as long as no injuries are involved). It looked like Noah Brown was OK after the play, but the young wide receiver did a FULL FLIP before landing on his backside. The only problem? He landed without the ball, losing it while airborne and squandering a golden opportunity for the Cowboys to take the lead over the Lions before halftime.

Joe Cool on FIRE

Check out these stats for Joe Burrow at halftime: 19-for-21, 325 yards (!), three touchdowns and a perfect passer rating of 158.3. It has been all Bengals, thanks to Tyler Boyd and Ja'Marr Chase, who have combined for nine receptions for 217 yards and three scores.

Dueling pick-6s!

Within minutes of each other, the Packers and Titans extended their leads with interception returns for touchdowns. First it was Green Bay linebacker De'Vondre Campbell tearing the ball out of J.D. McKissic's hands and rumbling 63 yards for the score. Then it was Tennessee safety  Andrew Adams getting into the action. Matt Ryan was looking for Parris Campbell on the way on a quick out, only Campbell wasn't looking at him. Adams was, jumping the route and cruising 76 yards to the house.

Umm Mike Evans ...

Mike Evans should have had the easiest touchdown of his nine-year career in the first quarter against the Panthers on Sunday. There was literally NO ONE around him after his defender fell down. Instead, this happened.

Because of Evans' inexplicable drop, the Buccaneers have now gone seven straight games without a first-quarter touchdown to start the season.

Brissett connects with Cooper for long TD

Jacoby Brissett has balled out in the first quarter, which is not something I thought I'd be typing against a Ravens secondary that has tightened up after a rough start to the year. He's already thrown for 121 yards on seven passes, with the biggest gain going for 55 yards on a strike to Amari Cooper.

Etienne scores first-career TD

Travis Etienne has been slowly taking over as the Jaguars' lead back, and he helped his team respond to the Giants' opening score with a touchdown on their own. And after a New York penalty, Jacksonville relied on Etienne to give it the 8-7 advantage.

Slaying the Jaguars defense

The 5-1 Giants? Underdogs? Usually Las Vegas knows best, but New York got on the board first after a nice grab by Darius Slayton from Daniel Jones. Slayton entered the game with just eight receptions for 108 yards, but he's got the Giants out in front, thanks to his 32-yard score.

Burrow airs it out!

How about this start for the Bengals? On the fourth play from scrimmage, Joe Burrow dropped back to pass and saw Tyler Boyd streaking WIDE OPEN down the middle of the field. As he usually does, Burrow delivered a strike, and Boyd took it the rest of the way for a 60-yard touchdown.

NFC > Jaguars

Are you a fan of an NFC team? Than you've most likely defeated the Jaguars over the past decade.

Since 2012, Jacksonville is 4-39 against NFC teams, per The Action Network's Bet Labs. The only teams it has beaten over that stretch are the Seahawks, Bears and Giants (twice). Even worse, the Jaguars have lost 18 STRAIGHT GAMES to interconference foes dating back to Week 1 of the 2018 season.

Now here's the good news for Jacksonville: Sunday's opponent is the Giants, who just happen to be last NFC opponent the Jaguars beat. And if the Vegas oddsmakers are correct -- Jacksonville is a surprising three-point favorite over 5-1 New York -- then Duval County will have its first victory over the opposing conference since Doug Marrone was the head coach and Blake Bortles, who retired earlier this month, was under center. (Not to mention Leonard Fournette and Jalen Ramsey were still on the team.)
