  • Nathan Peterman: Joins Falcons' practice squad

Peterman was signed to the Falcons' practice squad Tuesday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Peterman was released by the Raiders last Tuesday after spending the preseason as an extra depth option behind Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell at quarterback. Peterman played in two games with the Bears in 2023 and he'll likely operate as an emergency backup option in Atlanta with Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix on the active roster.

  • Nathan Peterman: Cut by Las Vegas

The Raiders released Peterman on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Peterman was brought in two weeks ago as preseason depth, and he started the Raiders' exhibition finale with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell resting. Peterman went 12 of 19 passing for 108 yards and one touchdown, but it wasn't enough to convince the Raiders to keep him on the 53-man roster. Peterman could be an emergency QB3 on the practice squad.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Returns to Raiders

The Raiders signed Peterman to the training camp roster Tuesday, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports. Peterman was let go by the Saints on Aug. 2, and it didn't take long for the journeyman quarterback to catch onto another team. The 2017 fifth-round pick appeared in two games for the Raiders across 2020 and 2021. If Peterman wishes to secure a spot on Las Vegas' 53-man roster, he'll have to beat out Carter Bradley and Anthony Brown for the No. 3 emergency quarterback job behind Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell.

  • Nathan Peterman: Cut by New Orleans

Peterman was cut by the Saints on Friday in a corresponding move to the addition of Samson Nacua, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Peterman's stint with the Saints is now over after being signed to the team back in March. The 6-foot-2 quarterback was the third-string quarterback in Chicago's offense this past season, and he will now likely search for a team to give him a similar opportunity ahead of the 2024 season.

  • Saints' Nathan Peterman: Gets chance in New Orleans

The Saints are signing Peterman to a contract Thursday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. Peterman played four snaps as the Bears' third-string quarterback last season but didn't attempt a pass. Now, he'll get an opportunity to compete for a similar spot, if not potentially the top backup role, behind Derek Carr in New Orleans. Peterman previously backed up Carr during their time together with the Raiders.

  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Heading toward free agency

Peterman served as the third-string quarterback for the Bears in 2023, playing just four snaps. He did not attempt a pass during the 2023 season. Peterman finished his sixth NFL season. He's played two years each with Buffalo, Las Vegas and Chicago. Over the last four years, he's attempted just 30 passes. He'll head into free agency in the hope of finding a role as a backup quarterback.

  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Added to 53-man roster

Peterman was added to the Bears' 53-man roster Friday, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports. Peterman was re-signed to the Bears' practice squad earlier in the week. Chicago will opt to go with three quarterbacks on its active roster for Sunday's matchup with the Vikings. Thus, Peterman is set to back up Justin Fields and Tyson Bagent under center.

  • Nathan Peterman: Let go again

Peterman was released by the Bears on Thursday, Chris Emma of 670TheScore.com reports. Peterman's exit comes as the team needed to create a roster spot to activate Teven Jenkins (calf) from injured reserve. The veteran quarterback was released by the team earlier in September and then brought back soon after, which could end up being the case again. However, it does appear the Oklahoma State product has lost the backup quarterback role to rookie Tyson Bagent, so a return would likely come via the practice squad.

  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Loses backup job

Peterman is expected to be a healthy inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Broncos and has lost the backup quarterback spot to Tyson Bagent, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports. Peterman was the No. 2 quarterback for the first three weeks of the season, but Bagent continues to impress during practice and has been rewarded with a promotion. Peterman appeared in three games for the Bears in 2022, completing 14 of 25 passes for 139 yards, a touchdown and an interception across 44 offensive snaps.

  • Nathan Peterman: Gets released

Chicago released Peterman on Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. After serving as the Bears' primary backup for the first two games of the season, Peterman is now set to become a free agent. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent is now the only quarterback on Chicago's 53-man roster aside from Justin Fields.

  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Penciled in as primary backup

The Bears list Peterman as the second quarterback on their official depth chart ahead of Sunday's season opener versus Green Bay, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. Despite some confusion that was created when he didn't make the Bears' initial final roster cuts last week, Peterman looks like he'll serve as the top backup behind Justin Fields for a second consecutive season, at least in the early going. The Bears will still be carrying a third quarterback on the roster in undrafted free agent Tyson Bagent, however, so Peterman's grip on the backup slot probably isn't a firm one.

  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Re-signs with Bears

The Bears re-signed Peterman on Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Peterman, who's entering his seventh NFL campaign, is now slated to remain in Chicago for a second consecutive year following Thursday's signing. The 28-year-old will presumably compete against the newly-acquired PJ Walker throughout the offseason for the Bears' backup quarterback job behind starter Justin Fields.

  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Hitting free agency

Peterman completed 11 of 19 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 29-13 loss to the Vikings in Week 18, and ended the season completing 14 of 25 passes for 139 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Finishing his fifth year in the league, Peterman may be hard-pressed to have a roster spot as anything higher than a third-string quarterback, as he's completed less than 55 percent of his pass attempts during his career while throwing significantly more interceptions than touchdowns. He's now an unrestricted free agent.

  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Doesn't play Week 12

Peterman was active as the Bears' backup quarterback but didn't see the field Sunday in the team's 31-10 loss to the Jets. Peterman was elevated from the practice squad Saturday in anticipation of the absence of starter Justin Fields (shoulder), who was ultimately placed on the inactive list. Trevor Siemian, who had served as Fields' understudy all season, was in position to step in as the starter, but Siemian's availability for the game suddenly became murky during pregame warmups, when he suffered an oblique injury. Peterman thus appeared on track to get the start leading up to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff, only for the Bears to determine that Siemian's oblique injury wasn't severe enough to prevent him from playing. Siemian ended up taking the field for the Bears' first offensive series and played all 57 snaps in the loss, and provided he didn't experience any setbacks with the oblique during the game, he'll presumably be in line to start Week 13 against the Packers if Fields isn't cleared to play.

  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Elevated to active roster

The Bears elevated Peterman to their active roster from their practice squad Saturday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. The bigger picture here is that Peterman's elevation could mean that Justin Fields (shoulder) may be held out of Chicago's Week 12 road game against the Jets. If that's the case, Peterman would likely serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback behind Trevor Siemian. Peterman has attempted only five NFL passes since 2018, all of which came in a single contest while with the Raiders in 2020.

  • Nathan Peterman: Lands on Bears' practice squad

Peterman was signed to Chicago's practice squad Wednesday, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports. Peterman joins the practice squad as expected after going unclaimed on waivers. He'll likely spend the entire season on Chicago's practice squad unless either Justin Fields or Trevor Siemian gets hurt.

  • Nathan Peterman: Cut by Chicago

Peterman was released by the Bears on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Peterman's departure leaves only Justin Fields and Trevor Siemian on Chicago's roster at quarterback. Rapoport adds that the team plans to add Peterman to the practice squad, so Peterman could be first in line to join the team should Fields or Siemian get hurt.

  • Bears' Nathan Peterman: Signs one-year deal with Chicago

The Bears signed Peterman to a one-year contract Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Peterman spent the last two seasons in Las Vegas, appearing in two games and totaling 15 offensive snaps. The 2017 fifth-round pick will compete with Trevor Siemian for the backup spot behind Justin Fields.

  • Nathan Peterman: Reverts to practice squad

Peterman reverted to Las Vegas' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Peterman was added to the active roster to serve as the backup quarterback to Derek Carr with Marcus Mariota placed on the reserve-COVID-19 list. The veteran did not see any game action against Denver on Sunday. Now back on the Raiders' practice squad, he will likely remain there barring an injury to either Carr or Mariota.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Plays whole game again

Peterman completed 18 of 29 passes for 175 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 34-10 preseason loss to the 49ers. Peterman once again played the entirety of the offensive snaps to end his extensive preseason involvement. Although he found Nick Bowers for a 16-yard touchdown in the third quarter, Peterman was picked off on his next drive. The veteran now will await his fate as he hopes for a roster spot behind Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota.
