  • Corey Davis: May not return to playing

Davis has decided he doesn't want to return to the NFL, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports. After announcing his retirement last August, Davis applied for reinstatement this March and was subsequently released by the Jets so that he could pursue an opportunity elsewhere. The wideout had a tryout with the Bills this week, but it appears that nothing will come of it given Cappacio's report. Davis is only 29 years old, but it was never a given that he'd land a significant role with an NFL club if he did decide to return given that he hasn't suited up since 2022.

  • Corey Davis: Gets tryout with Buffalo

The Bills hosted Davis for a tryout Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Davis retired last August while he was with the Jets, but he applied for reinstatement to the NFL back in March, and he's now attempting to latch on with a new AFC East team. Buffalo could be looking to replace the big-bodied Chase Claypool (toe) at training camp, as he landed on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday. If Davis signs with the Bills, he could push fellow veterans Mack Hollins, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and KJ Hamler for a depth role in the receiver room.

  • Corey Davis: Officially released by Jets

The Jets officially released Davis from the reserve/retired list Thursday. This transaction comes on the heels of Davis applying for reinstatement from the NFL earlier Thursday. In the later stages of the 2023 preseason, he announced his retirement, but the now 29-year-old has put himself on a path to returning to the highest form of pro football. In two campaigns with the Jets between 2021 and 2022, Davis hauled in 66 of 123 targets for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns in 22 games.

  • Corey Davis: Planning NFL return

Davis has applied for reinstatement to the NFL and the Jets are expected to release him from the reserve/retired list Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Davis could also return to New York on a new contract, after he stepped away from the team and into retirement last August. The 29-year-old wideout put up a 32-536-2 line in his last played season, when he suited up for 13 games with the Jets back in 2022. He should be able to contribute as a depth receiver as long as it doesn't take too long to catch back up to speed, whether he ultimately re-ups with New York or lands elsewhere.

  • Corey Davis: Placed on reserve/retired list

The Jets placed Davis on the reserve/retired list Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com Davis -- who had been excused from team activities for the last 10 days -- announced Wednesday that he planned to step away from football. With the 28-year-old's retirement having been made official, the Jets will move on with a wide receiver corps featuring Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman and Randall Cobb.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Steps away from NFL

Davis announced Wednesday via his personal Instagram account that he plans to step away from the NFL, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. The 28-year-old entered the league in 2017 with the Titans, who chose him fifth overall in that year's draft. Assuming Davis follows through with his plans to at least temporarily put his career on hold, the Jets' receiver corps will now be led by Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman and Randall Cobb. During his two seasons with New York, Davis appeared in 22 games, recording 66 catches for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns in that span.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Tending to personal matter

Davis didn't practice Tuesday due to a personal matter, John Pullano of the Jets' official site reports. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, while head coach Robert Saleh didn't comment Wednesday on Davis' availability for Week 1, he noted that the wideout can take "however long he needs" before returning to the team. As long as Davis is sidelined, the Jets' top available options at receiver will be Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: In uniform Saturday

Davis is suited up for Saturday's preseason contest against the Panthers, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. Davis didn't play in the Jets' first exhibition, but it looks like he'll get a taste of game action Saturday along with Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman. However, the Jets will be without Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson (ankle), Randall Cobb and Breece Hall (knee), so Davis should be a top target for Zach Wilson versus Carolina.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Gets verbal support of head coach

Jets coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Davis "will be on this team" in 2023, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Between a busy offseason for the Jets and Davis' non-guaranteed $10.5 million base salary, the 28-year-old wideout has been oft-mentioned as a potential cap casualty. The Jets traded WR Elijah Moore to Cleveland in late March, but only after signing Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman, and they later added Randall Cobb to give QB Aaron Rodgers another one of his former receivers from Green Bay. Saleh pointed to Davis' blocking and "big boy catches" as reasons he'd stay with the Jets, but it still won't be much of a surprise if the front office has other ideas. Davis has played 22 of a possible 34 games since joining the Jets, catching 66 of 123 targets (53.7 percent) for 1,028 yards (15.6 YPR, 8.4 YPT) and six touchdowns. The rate numbers aren't bad considering the lousy QB play he's dealt with, but $10.5 million is a lot to pay for a receiver who isn't even guaranteed a full-time role.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Totals 536 yards in 2022

Davis caught one of three targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 11-6 loss to the Dolphins. He finished the season with 32 catches on 64 targets for 536 yards and two touchdowns. Davis needed just nine games to rack up 34 catches for 492 yards and four touchdowns in 2021. He played four more games in the 2022 campaign but had two fewer catches and two fewer touchdowns while totaling only 44 more yards. Rookie first-round pick Garrett Wilson emerged as the go-to option in the Jets' passing game, and the team's poor quarterback play didn't leave room for another receiver to produce consistently. Davis -- who turns 28 on Jan. 11 -- has one more year left on his contract but no guaranteed money.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Three catches in loss

Davis caught three of six targets for 45 yards in Sunday's 23-6 loss to the Seahawks. The Jets' entire offense struggled, and despite his weak numbers Davis wound up leading the entire WR group in yards, although tight end Tyler Conklin was the team's leading receiver overall. Davis has topped 50 yards just once in his last five games, and the team's unsettled quarterback situation will limit his upside in Week 18 against the Dolphins.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Hindered by poor QB play

Davis caught two of seven targets for 14 yards in Thursday's 19-3 loss to the Jaguars. Davis finished second on the team in targets behind Garrett Wilson (nine), but Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler combined to throw for only 182 yards, so none of New York's pass catchers found much success. The veteran wide receiver has shown chemistry with the latter Wilson at times, but with the second-year quarterback regressing, New York's passing game is in shambles. Davis will have limited fantasy appeal against a stingy Seattle secondary in Week 17 unless the Jets get quarterback Mike White (ribs) back.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: No injury designation

Davis (concussion) doesn't have an injury designation for Thursday's game against the Jaguars, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Davis apparently has cleared the NFL's five-step concussion protocol after the Jets listed him as a full participant for walk-through practices Tuesday and Wednesday. He didn't have a chance to actually practice with the Jets on a short week, but he should see plenty of snaps nonetheless with backup wideouts Denzel Mims (concussion) and Jeff Smith (knee) both ruled out.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Full participant Tuesday

Davis (concussion) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. Meanwhile, the two guys that replaced Davis on the perimeter the past couple weeks both missed practice -- Denzel Mims with a concussion and Jeff Smith with a knee injury. While he'll still need to clear concussion protocol officially, Davis is trending toward a return to the starting lineup Thursday night against Jacksonville. The Jets have already announced Zach Wilson as their starting QB for at least one more game while Mike White recovers from a rib injury.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Limited on practice estimate

Davis (concussion) was listed as limited on Monday's practice estimate, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Ethan B. Greenberg of the Jets' official site previous relayed that coach Robert Saleh indicated that he is "very confident" Davis will be cleared ahead of Thursday night's game against the Jaguars. Davis was unable to practice last week before being ruled out ahead of Sunday's loss to the Lions, but at this stage the wideout is trending in the right direction ahead of Week 16 action.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Looking good for Week 16

Coach Robert Saleh said Monday that he's "very confident" Davis (concussion) will be available Thursday versus the Jaguars, Ethan B. Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports. Davis missed Sunday's loss to the Lions while working his way through the concussion protocols, but the Jets appear optimistic that his absence will be limited to one game. Saleh refused to confirm whether Mike White (ribs) will start Thursday or if the team will continue to roll with Zach Wilson, per Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record, but Davis has had flashes of success with both QBs this season. He posted a season-high 85 yards with White under center in Week 15 but recorded a 5-74-1 line catching passes from Wilson in Week 4.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: No practice Wednesday

Davis (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Cimini reiterated Wednesday what head coach Robert Saleh said Monday, which is that the Jets are hopeful Davis will clear the concussion protocol in time to play this Sunday against Detroit. With one absence from practice to begin the week, Davis will likely need to make some sort of appearance in practice by Friday to have any chance of clearing the five-step protocol by Sunday.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: In concussion protocol

Head coach Robert Saleh revealed Monday that Davis (head) is in the NFL's concussion protocol, but the Jets are hopeful he'll be available Sunday against the Lions, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Davis was injured early in Sunday's 20-12 loss to the Bills when a defender kneed him in the head as Davis completed a 15-yard catch. He'll need to pass the NFL's five-step concussion protocol to play against the Detroit.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Good to go this week

Davis (illness) has been cleared to play Sunday against the Bills practicing fully Friday. Davis steadily increased his practice activity this week, as he sat out Wednesday's session before bumping up to limited activity Thursday and full participation Friday. In this past Sunday's 27-22 loss to the Vikings, Davis logged an 81 percent snap share en route to catching five of his 10 targets for 85 yards. Against Buffalo, Davis should continue to serve as a key cog in the Jets' passing offense alongside top wideout Garrett Wilson.

  • Jets' Corey Davis: Back at practice

Davis (illness) returned to practice Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Davis sat out Wednesday's practice, but the wide receiver's return to the field Thursday puts him on track to suit up Sunday against the Bills. The Jets' upcoming practice/injury report will clarify Davis' official participation level.
