  • Commanders' Corn Elder: In concussion protocol

Elder entered concussion protocol during Saturday's 24-14 preseason loss at Kansas City, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Elder, who is probably on the roster bubble with the 53-man roster deadline fast approaching, will hope to clear protocol and get back onto the field as quickly as possible. In the meantime, rookie seventh-round pick Christian Holmes should see increased opportunities as long as Elder is out.

  • Football Team's Corn Elder: Signs with Washington

Washington signed Elder on Wednesday. Washington signed Elder after it placed Darryl Roberts (quadriceps) on injured reserve. The 27-year-old corner will likely serve as a depth option until Roberts is able to return. Elder spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the Panthers, appearing in 30 total games and registering 43 tackles.

  • Panthers' Corn Elder: Slot cornerback reps on tap

Elder will see the opportunity to take reps in the slot this offseason, Bill Voth of the Panthers' official site reports. Elder played only 61 defensive snaps across 13 games in 2018, during which time he made three tackles. He'll compete with 2018 third-round pick Rashaan Gaulden for reps in nickel packages this offseason.

  • Panthers' Corn Elder: Headed to Carolina

The Panthers selected Elder in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 152nd overall. Elder (5-foot-10, 183 pounds) is a small corner with modest athleticism, but he excelled in college and earns admiration for his competitiveness. In a Carolina defense that aims for aggression in the secondary, this is a sensible fit.
